Am I unreasonable to not get outside at this time of year?
I feel like it’s not healthy. But I’m struggling to go for a walk or run in the dark.
what do you do if you wfh and children old enough to take themselves to and from school.

Sorry that was a typo my post was supposed to say I wonder how people who are not exercising at home stay fit and slim.

I have a treadmill at home so it’s perfectly possible to do plenty of exercise indoors. Although I still want to get out of it for some fresh air. I’d take that any day over gym equipment which is really only for when it’s bucketing down.

The gym is only for when it’s raining? What?

This thread, with its celebration of staying in for weeks on end, genuinely makes me feel anxious. I know extroverts aren’t usually allowed to feel anxious so I’ll unwatch.

For me it's just a bit pointless in winter
Like today, yes I could have gone out for a walk. In the dark when I finished work and it was hailstones

Or I could put on exercise clothes and jump on the bike and then do some weights

If you live in a lovely area and are off out with the dog it's a bit different to me trudging round a housing estate when it's below freezing for.. what? Fresh air?

My house isn't sealed up, I have windows and means to exercise!
In summer I'll be in the garden or off outdoor swimming etc but Nov - Jan I'm perfectly happy at home unless I'm going somewhere for a reason (coffee, friends, food shopping etc)

Quick walk during your lunchbreak? Even 10 mins would be something and get some Vit D on your skin

What vitamin D? You aren't getting any this time of year!

Wishful thinking I guess! Or stay indoors and stock up on the other vit d 😂

I go for a walk on my lunch break. Just like I would if I was in the office. It's nothing like a nice evening stroll in summer but it gets me out in the fresh air for 20 minutes.

I hate WFH because you literally cannot leave your laptop. We have to have teams open, constantly, and my team and neighbouring towns teams are all on, asking each other questions or wanting phone numbers/ email addresses. We even have random quiz questions posted on there, so the managers know we are "there".
We have to post when we nip to the loo!
I prefer the office, where I can actually go for a walk around the carpark.
If you can, walk around your garden, just so you get outside.

TwinklyNight · 23/11/2024 00:10

I got outside daily when we had a dog, I had to walk him several times a day. Maybe that's an idea for you? The dog would help you feel safer walking in the dark also.

But surely you just set your status to away when you're on lunch?

Why have your managers adopted this dreadful requirement?
Why are you allowed to go for a walk when you're in the office but not when you're at home?
Were people not productive when WFH?

mum2jakie · 23/11/2024 09:46

I've wfh most of the last week due to the snow. (Would usually be at home 2 days, office 3.) Realised I haven't actually left the house at all for the whole week!!! It's been lovely but I don't have a big house so I probably do need to make the most of the weekend and force myself out in the cold, to get some decent exercise! Although the snow has now turned into heavy rain so not very appealing...

Don't you get a lunch break?

A day not having to leave the house in winter sounds like bliss to me. I work in an office 4 days and WFH 1 day. Bit have kids 9 and 11 so I'm out for school runs regardless, errands after work, kids clubs every night except one. I have Raynauds and my feet and hands are constantly swollen and painful, there's Jo benefit to me being outside. I do 45 mins and 2 min HIIT 4-5 times a week using YT so I get plenty of exercise.

Makingchocolatecake · 24/11/2024 09:58

Go for a walk on your lunch break, get a SAD lamp and take vitamin D.
