To not leave the house when wfh?

museumum · 21/11/2024 18:47

Am I unreasonable to not get outside at this time of year?
I feel like it’s not healthy. But I’m struggling to go for a walk or run in the dark.
what do you do if you wfh and children old enough to take themselves to and from school.

I go out every day for a walk. I really enjoy it. But I live in a leafy area so I can walk up a no car lane to a common or a heath.

i have to re learn this lesson many times

went out for a walk yesterday when I could have stayed home

it was so cold it just wore me out. I don't enjoy it. I would have been better staying in. It was the sun that tempted me. I live in a tiny flat but took ages to warm my bones when I got in.

I don't work at home every day and I don't drive so am out walking for a reason most days. In winter, there's no benefit really.

That just means you don’t have warm enough clothes. I’ve got a 700 fill goose down puffa, sheepskin lined boots and a warm furry hat, I don’t ever get cold and I’m someone who feels the cold.

Wonderi · 21/11/2024 20:43

You don’t need to go out everyday but you should go out at least once or twice during the week.

Do you exercise at home?

I assume you sit at a screen all day and so I would be going for a walk most days on my lunch break personally.

I’d also feel very cold if I was sat at home all day and so I’d go out for a walk just to appreciate coming back to a cosy home.

LindorDoubleChoc · 21/11/2024 20:44

I always go out in the daylight, every day. I'd be worried about a slippery slope towards agoraphobia, amongst other things.

I've got a standing desk and walking pad, so I walk and work at the same time!

What's a walking pad?

MiddleAgedDread · 21/11/2024 20:02

It’s really unhealthy, both mentally and physically!
go out before work, walk at lunchtime, join a gym,
go to the supermarket, go out to get lunch…..

I exercise at home so that's covered

There's no time for me to go get lunch or walk, it's a 30 min break and I'm not going out at 7am to wander around in minus temps on ice!

Thistooshallpass. · 21/11/2024 20:47

This sounds unhealthy . You need fresh air , you need exercise . I hate being indoors for more than a day . Also I feel that I'm not worn out enough to sleep if I haven't been out and had some air !

fivebyfivebuffy · 21/11/2024 20:47

I also hate walking for the sake of it. Fine if I'm going exploring somewhere or walking home from the garage etc
Figure a 30 min spin class is better exercise than me grumpily stomping round for 10 mins outside

whydoieven · 21/11/2024 20:45

What's a walking pad?

A small treadmill that goes under the desk, I have one too

Needamagicfairy · 21/11/2024 20:50

I was finding I wasn't leaving the house most days I was wfh. I now do a daily 30 minute walk before breakfast, yes most days I don't want to but generally feel better after.

TheChosenTwo · 21/11/2024 20:52

Wouldn’t be healthy for me. I recognise now when I stop leaving the house it’s because I’ve stopped taking care of myself so I do go out every day when wfh. Lunchtime and usually an evening walk too while dh cooks dinner. Podcast on and pound the pavements.

springtulips1 · 21/11/2024 20:52

I have to make sure I get out, usually for a quick walk before work or during lunch. Makes me feel really unmotivated and bleugh if I don’t leave the house all day

arinya · 21/11/2024 20:52

I wfh but I have a dog that has 2-3
walks a day which gets me out of the house. I have a few friends who go out of the house for work but drive door to door and mainly sit in one place all day. They are getting out of the house of course, but aren’t getting much more in terms of exercise.

LlynTegid · 21/11/2024 20:52

I go out every day without fail, wfh half the time not every day.

Judellie · 21/11/2024 20:53

If I'm wfh then I go for a walk at lunchtime otherwise I feel all 'wrong' and can't concentrate in the afternoon.
It's usually 20 minute walk, 20 mins to prepare and eat food (just a baked potato or something like that) and maybe 10 minutes tobring washing in or out, depending.
It's not a great idea NOT to leave the house all day, for all I used to think otherwise.

This what I do out for a run around 7:20 home for 7:55 log on at 8, shower at lunchtime.

Oldgalgames · 21/11/2024 20:58

I work from home, I go for a walk every morning no matter the weather, i get up and go before I talk myself out of it due to the weather. It sets me up for the day

Remagirl · 21/11/2024 20:58

I take my dog out every lunchtime. I need to for my own sanity. Build something into your day even if it's 1/2 hr. You should take regular breaks from a screen if that's how you wfh.

Netcam · 21/11/2024 21:01

Scottishskifun · 21/11/2024 18:51

I try to force myself for a walk at lunchtime although I don't really fancy it bur always feel better for it. Not very long about 20 minute loop

I do the same

BitOutOfPractice · 21/11/2024 21:02

Doggymummar · 21/11/2024 18:54

I once did 22 days straight not going out it was bliss. I'm on holiday this week and went out to Sainsbury's yesterday other than that indoors for ten days. I love being home

I have to say that this would not do me any good at all. I actually feel a bit anxious thinking about it.

yes I need to get out every day. To move a bit.

that way the occasional day when I do stay at home can feel enjoyable.

Zanatdy · 21/11/2024 21:03

fine at this time of year. Though I only tend to WFH once or twice a week max, I like to leave the house!

Adviceneeeeded · 21/11/2024 21:05

If I could I would never leave the house!

RandomUsernameHere · 21/11/2024 21:08

I go for a run at lunchtime. If I didn't like running though, I wouldn't leave the house most weekdays, probably only would on the days the DCs have clubs they need to be driven to.

Never heard of these and just Googled it :) Sounds like a great idea, would you recommend & any brand in particular?

Why not??
i treat an early morning walk as my “commute” if I WFH! or go out after work.
