Soon as was allowed I recall Major Tom going abroad on holiday, resulting in him contacting covid and die. Poetic justice, or major stupidity under the circumstances. Hard to tell if used or in on it, but the apple doesn't fall far from the tree maybe.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 23/11/2024 15:05

Just had an article about this pop up on my feed and this part stuck out to me.

But one of the PRs who worked for Mrs Ingram-Moore told the Mail that while she 'put up a good show' on the This Morning sofa, it became clear that they were both very keen to cash in on 'an opportunity few people ever get'.
The PR said: 'There were little things. They had plans for a stage show. They told me they had enough footage in the can to make a documentary on Netflix. They said that would be their pension. I formed the view that they were very financially obsessed with it.'

A stage show!! No doubt with Hannah taking the appulse during the curtain call.

Tbf a stage show of the whole sorry mess is actually a really good idea! It has quite a lot of similar elements of that other flag shagging, scamming grifter (Charles Ingram - they even share a surname!) and that was made into a stage show (The quiz). I doubt that is what Hannah had in mind though…..

levantine · 23/11/2024 15:49

Yeah, looking forward to the ITV dramatisation of this whole sorry shit show

fedup33 · 23/11/2024 15:51

This is Major Tom to ground control......

Yeah, I think she probably saw it as a chance for a re-run of Wimbledon where she could wave and blow kisses at her adoring public.

Thought it was a bit off at the time and that awful record with Michael Ball - urgh!!!

Haha apparently Michael Ball doesn't want to talk about his accommodation with CTM anymore. So much for there being no such thing as bad publicity!

BurntBroccoli · 23/11/2024 16:09

Just rereading this old April 2020 thread: The hype was very real!

Ilovetowander · 23/11/2024 16:20

I don't like a lot of this type of charity hypes in general, including the large ones which give to a range of charities as I want to know exactly where my donation is going. That said although at the time I felt that it was hype and over the top my views were similar to what they would have been to other charity hypes , I felt it was more so given the fact it was covid times which meant this was a feel good series seized on by the press. To be honest at the time I had far too many other things to deal with due to in my view a lockdown which should not have happened and which ignored young people.

Now time has passed I haven't read the stores in depth as I feel that perhaps the press has been partiuclarly negative in tearing down the family. I would be interested in reading the books the family to see their side as I am going to reserve my judgment until I have heard the other side.

This thread is hilarious - not only did he single handed galvanise the entire nation apparently (yeah all those key workers were just lazy and uninspiring compared to him walking round his fcking garden) but he's the most wonderful man to have ever lived 😂

What a load of saccharine bullshit

SunblockSue · 23/11/2024 16:27

@Ilovetowander
Have you read the actual report? I have and some of the media stories are not particularly accurate and the report does clearly state where the Ingram-Moores' have not benefitted and this is not in the media reporting but my goodness there is a whole lot wrong here.

glenleeegardens · 23/11/2024 17:07

Sorry, haven't read all the comments. Are the Ingram-Moores related to the Charles Ingram who cheated on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire by any chance?

Unfortunately not as that would be a fun little cherry on top of the whole schadenfreude fest.

I'm afraid I also think that Michael Ball chose to benefit from this financially. That record. Good bloody god. But definitely to raise his profile. I haven't even bothered to read his fake horror at the revelations.

Pumpkincozynights · 24/11/2024 00:01

Oh I’d wipe from memory that truly awful record they made. What a calamity that was.

glenleeegardens · 24/11/2024 00:13

Unbelievable

Coolasfeck · 21/11/2024 08:03

Just because Captain Tom was old, doesn’t mean he wasn’t in on the grift. Where did she get her morals from?

Many of us called it at the start on here and were screamed at for being horrible etc.

There appears to be no evidence that Captain Tom was anything other than what we saw at the time.

Treesandsheepeverywhere · 24/11/2024 10:46

DoublePasta · 21/11/2024 07:55

Hoax??! I think it was real enough!

I'm not so sure, it felt very orchestrated at the time and obviously now we know that Hannah Ingram is a charlatan it seems increasingly unlikely that this 'walking round the garden for the nurses' was the delightfully innocent idea of a hundred year old man.

I didn't believe for a second, that a 99 year old man, with mobility issues would choose to voluntarily walk up and down with cameras in his face.

Choose to go through putting on his uniform every morning (fiddly buttons on shirt and jacket).

Or want to go on a long haul flight for a holiday in the sun.

At that age, all most want to do is relax.

Most decent families would have let him relax instead of parading him aound for their own greed.

A lot of us said so but most on here fell for it hook, line and sinker.

lemonlavendar · 24/11/2024 11:09

May I just say that my Dad was a WW2 officer and had many prestigious medals. He and his contemporaries would have found Captain Tom's display of medals for a charity walk up and down the garden at home extremely brash and inappropriate.
The fact he wore them says a lot about the man...and the genes he passed on to his daughter.

lemonlavendar · 24/11/2024 11:12

glenleeegardens · 24/11/2024 00:04

Quite a coincidence if it is!

Yes, I agree. My father was ex military and wouldn't have dreamed of mentioning his rank (at every opportunity) and wearing his medals for profit. It's considered very tasteless.

Yep- same with my grandad
