What to call an unborn child?

I am 10 weeks pregnant.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm finding it difficult to know what to call my unborn child at this stage. It doesn't feel right to call it a baby, child or even fetus.

Any suggestions?

I called mine Izzy.

BruceAndNosh · 18/11/2024 22:28

The bump. Even tho you most probably don't have one yet

purpleme12 · 18/11/2024 22:28

Just baby really

LifeExperience · 18/11/2024 22:29

I called mine my baby or my child at that point. Later I called them my son and my daughter.

Aria999 · 18/11/2024 22:29

I think ours were also Bump.

My sisters pre birth were (I have no idea why) Humphrey and Cuthbert.

MammaKel · 18/11/2024 22:30

I used baby bean.

SuperfluousHen · 18/11/2024 22:30

I was always expecting a baby when I was pregnant.

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/11/2024 22:31

I like a diminutive of a family name. Or a cute word that pops up. Squish, Noodle, Bean, whatever feels nice. A name but not the name.

Suzuki76 · 18/11/2024 22:31

Mine was called Jürgen. Guess which football team we support.

Definitely not ‘baby’… ‘how’s baby today?’ 🤢

I always referred to it as ‘the baby’.

What's the difference 😂

Amarige · 18/11/2024 22:33

Baby.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 18/11/2024 22:33

Ours was smudge

minipie · 18/11/2024 22:34

Bean

I think DC2 became Chickpea

Trallia · 18/11/2024 22:34

The pregnancy.

Its a bit cold, perhaps, but I'd had losses and couldn't bear to get too attached to this one. Very attached to her now she's running around.

I still talk about "the pregnancies" that didn't work out. Most miscarriages are of embryos after all.

Little squiggle, squish, wriggley-one and kick-a-lot were slightly more affectionate(?) terms used at later stages!

justanotherlaura · 18/11/2024 22:35

Ours was called 'the parasite', I was very ill in pregnancy and it was just in jest :)

Bump, wiggle-butt, hiccup-monster, bladder-crusher, squishy

All used depending on his actions that day 😅

Jollyjoy · 18/11/2024 22:35

I used to like looking up what size of fruit they were each week. You could call them grape, kumquat etc?! I don’t know if I called the baby much in the first trimester, it wasn’t til they moved, early on it’s more just me being pregnant. But I forget.

Plastictrees · 18/11/2024 22:36

Mine was seedlet at first, followed by munchkin 😂Munchkin stuck, I still call him it!

Noshadealltea · 18/11/2024 22:37

We called her Skringle Skrangle 🤷🏼‍♀️. Then later on by her name.

CatCaretaker · 18/11/2024 22:55

We have a nickname for the bump, a real human name, and the name that we have been calling our hoped for future child for the last few years. It won't be her name when she's born though (we have yet to decide on that!).

Wildywondrous · 18/11/2024 22:58

We called her the baby until we found out her sex then called her by the name we'd chosen.
We initially planned to use a different name each week off our list to see which one felt right but the first one stuck

Tottenham, after Klinsmann.

hereismydog · 18/11/2024 22:59

We’ve nicknamed ours Parsley!

They started kicking properly and I told DP to say hello, and it instantly reminded us of this episode of The Mighty Boosh Grin so they are just called Parsley now. 3 and a bit weeks to go until they have a ‘real’ name!
