What to call an unborn child?

I am 10 weeks pregnant.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm finding it difficult to know what to call my unborn child at this stage. It doesn't feel right to call it a baby, child or even fetus.

Any suggestions?

Oh @teaandtoastwithmarmite ours is Smudge too! I thought I was being original 😂

Back in the day, I was Spike, apparently.

tb4122 · 19/11/2024 08:11

Currently my twins are "the parasites" because I'm feeling very unwell and they are draining the life from me (and I am joking!). My son never really had a name, just "the baby".

SofandaCox · 19/11/2024 08:12

Mine were prawns.

Im 31 and my parents still call me Bean.

warofthetimemachines · 19/11/2024 08:14

Our little energy vampire. First trimester exhaustion is hard.

LoquaciousPineapple · 19/11/2024 08:17

I just said baby. Even though from a scientific and moral standpoint I didn't consider it to be one.

Currently also 10 weeks. Don’t know what I call them right now. The water bear? The blob? The bean?

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 19/11/2024 08:21

Newboy. Gender non-specific.

sel2223 · 19/11/2024 08:23

Mine was 'the bump' for a long time

Then 'baby'

With DD1 it's 'baby sister'

Now we are thinking of names so trying different ones out every few days

Cosmicdreams · 19/11/2024 08:23

I called him squiggle as he was a squiggle on the screen, then when he was 20 weeks and found out he was a boy we named him the name he has now ❤️ I knew my names before I even got pregnant so I knew his name x

jellybe · 19/11/2024 08:36

Bean sprout- first scan was early and DD looked like a bean sprout so that's what she got called throughout the pregnancy.

Ours was known as Pitt the Embryo.

Blackadder fans!

Mine was just the baby - boring!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 19/11/2024 08:48

Gdd1 was known as The Gruffalo!

OldTinHat · 19/11/2024 08:51

Mine was called Bean. He's almost 26 now and I still use that as his nickname!

professionaloverthinker · 19/11/2024 08:55

I actually don't think I referred to if as anything at this stage lol didn't really talk about it much. Now I'm 28 weeks and we say she or the baby

xILikeJamx · 19/11/2024 08:57

We called ours Joan (turned out to be a boy!)

We had been watching repeats of Friends and there's one where Phoebe is like an investment banker or something and has an assistant called something like Barbie and Phoebe says "What kind of name is Barbie?! From now on your name is Joan" and that kind of stuck!

ChannelFiveDrama · 19/11/2024 09:00

The squatter?

MsSquiz · 19/11/2024 09:03

DD1 was just "the bump"
DD2 was "bingo" as DD1 became a huge bluey fan so named DD2 after Bluey's little sister.

They still refer to each other as Bluey and Bingo now

romdowa · 19/11/2024 09:05

It's the small human! That's what ds1 was and same with this one . Occasionally it's the parasite when I'm very unwell

Ladyj84 · 19/11/2024 09:22

The minute that egg is fertilizes it's the start of baby so not sure why you would want to call baby anything else

1bub1pup · 19/11/2024 09:24

We called ours egglet

MrsTerryPratchett · 18/11/2024 22:31

I like a diminutive of a family name. Or a cute word that pops up. Squish, Noodle, Bean, whatever feels nice. A name but not the name.

Same. Squidge and Bean were mine.
My friend's was Emby (sounds cuter than embryo)

Zoetrope1 · 19/11/2024 09:27

Cletus (the fetus)!

Needanewname42 · 19/11/2024 09:34

My nephew was Grape 🍇
Mine was Baby Dudelet, even once they were born the Dudelet name sort of stuck

Flutterbees · 19/11/2024 09:37

My older children referred to my third as 'Baby Bear', it stuck.

mondaytosunday · 19/11/2024 09:41

I think I called it the baby. As soon as we knew the sex we gave it a name.
