AINBU - it’s bad RReeves very Publicly lied about her prior work. We are right to feel annoyed by this lie.

saw this headline and am feeling really disappointed. Think Rachel Reeves needs to tell public exactly her job title.
She changed job title from Economist, to “Retail Banking”
An Economist at a Bank, is a clear and specific job, it’s a economic research position. A good experience for her current position.

”Retail Banking” - is not a job title … she could have been doing anything in a branch from Bank Teller, to Branch manager, or working in back office operations putting bank notes in the plastic bags or in HR.

So, she hasn't retrospectively altered her CV following the election?

They got the story from Guido fawkes this is from a bbc news article After graduating, Reeves took on a role as an economist at the Bank of England.
She worked on the central bank's Japan desk, looking at the country's attempts to come out of stagnation in the 1990s.

I'm not sure what the definition of an economist is. Someone with a degree in Economics? Is there a professional body you can belong to? It's not like being a Doctor or a Lawyer where specific qualifications or training are required. If you work in that field you can use that term I would think.

I work with people who previously worked with her at BoE. She isn't lying. Try harder next time.

Ive changed my cv several times. Its normal to tailor it to a job. At different times I've had more/less on my linkedin too, or drawn attention to different aspects of my experience.

This is completely normal. Someond probably came along and said "Rachel there's more public attention on your working history, get someone to make sure your linkedin is complete/has enough detail".

I'm no Reeves fan, however this is a clear attempt by the DM and the DT to smear her.

Look at the headlines on the DT every day and you will see endless endless articles from their "commentators" about how we're doomed under Labour. It's really tedious.

And I say that as someone who has never voted Labour in my life.

My brother did an internship at the Bank of England and says everyone made their own tea. Seems people are always keen to talk down a woman’s achievements.

So I have seen this in 2 news sources, 1B in the daily mail and the other one being a daily express. If you are getting your news from them, particular papers give you head a bloody wobble and get some better sauces

She's not managed the decimate the economy quite like her predecessors ( eg Kwasi Keoteng) ....

It's worth mentioning that other Chancellors haven't exactly had sterling careers in finance before or after their tenures, so why you expect RR to is a puzzle.

Her degree is in economics but that doesn't mean she was employed there as an economist.

Wasn't she there for a very short time after graduating?

I might not agree with how her experience has been sold but a) She didn't actually lie about it and b) compared to her predecessors she's definitely more qualified.

I work in FS and the job titles are a mess.... Retail banking may be a more appropriate description of her role rather than 'economist' but that doesn't mean she was in an admin role or doing work completely unrelated to the 'economist' skillset, which is well a knowledge of the economy. As opposed to making tea.

Also it's 2024 who the hell pays someone just to make tea anyway. Everyone makes their own.

And then there was the time she ran the Ponzi scheme under a fake name while in government. Oh, right, that was Grant Schapps...
