Rachel Reeves lied on her CV was not an “Economist”

AIBU - it’s OK to lie to get ahead

AINBU - it’s bad RReeves very Publicly lied about her prior work. We are right to feel annoyed by this lie.

saw this headline and am feeling really disappointed. Think Rachel Reeves needs to tell public exactly her job title.
She changed job title from Economist, to “Retail Banking”
An Economist at a Bank, is a clear and specific job, it’s a economic research position. A good experience for her current position.

”Retail Banking” - is not a job title … she could have been doing anything in a branch from Bank Teller, to Branch manager, or working in back office operations putting bank notes in the plastic bags or in HR.

This is so funny. You could easily replace left with right in this. Just look at this thread!

Why take it so personally? Does the cap fit?

And anyway, the yeah but, no but, yeah but look at the right just proves the point.

Accepting when they backed a dud is beyond the ability of the left. Hence they always end up looking stupid.

Ha even funnier. Taking it personally? Nah. It's just funny to watch someone point the finger when the rest are pointing back at them.

Yep, filling up the thread with nonsense as a deliberate ploy is really quite lame. Give it six months when unemployment has risen due to the Budget measures and I'm not sure people will be quite so supportive of her credentials.

And no, I'm not an economist (unless you count A level economics and an ACA) but then again, you don't need to be an economist to understand why it's a bad Budget at both the macroeconomic and corporate level.

Yep

Zonder · 20/11/2024 07:28

But hey, we all can see now what people are like and choose from there what we read and engage with in future

Ytcsghisn · 20/11/2024 07:29

Zonder · 20/11/2024 07:26

And why would you when people keep posting the same thoughts over and over despite the debunking?

Exactly, try changing your mind when presented with evidence.

Lalalalala and sticking fingers in the ear (aka filling up the thread), yet more evidence of the fact that it’s time to face facts. The chancellor is a dud. And among the many other clown in government, will be biggest reason for a one term labour government. And that really is lowering the bar when you consider some of the other weirdos, misfits and incompetents on the front bench.

Zonder · 20/11/2024 07:29

And if I ever see people try and pretend that "leftie movies" pile on poor right wing voters I'll remember this thread and the blanket repetition of empty arguments that have been disproved over and over

Zonder · 20/11/2024 07:30

Bye all, have a nice life. At least the Tories aren't in charge any more and we can all have a bit of hope 😍😊

SharpOpalNewt · 20/11/2024 07:31

As usual the wealthy and old are whining loudest about being fairly taxed at last after years of being kowtowed to and given special treatment by the Tories.

Try harder Tory HQ 1/10.

EasternStandard · 20/11/2024 07:33

I think Labour will always have the pp here

I doubt general sentiment follows

Good that the Tories are not in charge. Because they made some bad economic decisions. And they were punished for it.

But only the left like to be fleeced and rejoice. Enjoying lower economic growth and higher inflation yet? Like I say, definition of insanity, as said by a celebrity scientist a long time ago. And that guy didn’t pretend to be qualified for a job he had no idea about.

You might have a valid point were it not

  • the whole premise of the thread was ridiculous in the first place
  • even the OP has joined in the mockery of their own thread
  • having run out of energy PP were just posting random anti-Reeves/Labour stuff so not 'on topic' either

Labour are doing their best to alienate pensioners, farmers and rural base, businesses

All of whom probably thought they'd be ok. But now speaking of betrayal - farmers anyway. Public sector will likely still support them, hence mn, for now anyway

If Reeves has got the growth thing out it'll come round to that sector too

BIossomtoes · 20/11/2024 07:52

The farmers on the train I travelled on to Devon yesterday were planning to block the M4 with farm machinery next. We’ll see how long public sympathy lasts when their lives are disrupted.

Surely those very expensive agricultural 'assets' aren't insured for that sort of shenanigans

Same sort of thing didnt work out well for the Canadian lorry drivers a few years ago

DuncinToffee · 20/11/2024 08:07

I thought road blocking was only something woke leftie tofu eaters did?

Or are they growing concrete?

PandoraSox · 20/11/2024 08:09

We are still in the early days of a new government. Crowing about duds is premature. Labour has made some mistakes, I don't deny that. All governments do. But the doom mongering is a little OTT.

Labour will have another term. The Tories are only on their first leader, who won't last more than a couple of years. They won't be fit to govern for a long time.

The insults that have been thrown at us "lefties" on this thread belies the accusation that we are the ones who demean those who disagree with us.

Ytcsghisn · 20/11/2024 08:12

Farmer saying food prices will increase because of tax rises. Every supermarket saying food prices will rise because of a different tax rise.

Inflation already up this morning.

Defending this is like turkeys waiting for jingle bells.

You're assuming there's only two parties to vote for. I didn't vote Conservative for the first time in 30 years at the last election. The Conservatives will have to reinvent themselves or they won't be the second largest party for much longer.

I may have voted Conservative but, unlike many PPs on here, I'll happily call out their inadequacies. Boris lied far too many times, Hancock's flouting of his own rules was beyond the pale and the infighting was appalling.

A lot longer than JSO or Climate Rebellion, that’s for certain.

EasternStandard · 20/11/2024 08:20

I wouldn't count on a second term. Labour are alienating sections of voters already

EverythingAllatOnceAllTheTime · 20/11/2024 08:22

What’s telling is sections of the LW press turning against Labour.

True. But I don't think the Lib Dems or Reform will be a serious threat to Labour in 2029. Labour's majority will reduce though.

Starmer and Reeves will defend poor decisions no matter what but those growth figures have gone down, if that doesn't improve they'll see more pressure from pretty much everywhere

You mean the delay and inconvenience to Westminster traffic versus people commuting to work etc?

Clearly you dont live in London or use the M25 etc.
