Rachel Reeves lied on her CV was not an “Economist”

AIBU - it’s OK to lie to get ahead

AINBU - it’s bad RReeves very Publicly lied about her prior work. We are right to feel annoyed by this lie.

saw this headline and am feeling really disappointed. Think Rachel Reeves needs to tell public exactly her job title.
She changed job title from Economist, to “Retail Banking”
An Economist at a Bank, is a clear and specific job, it’s a economic research position. A good experience for her current position.

”Retail Banking” - is not a job title … she could have been doing anything in a branch from Bank Teller, to Branch manager, or working in back office operations putting bank notes in the plastic bags or in HR.

This was doing the rounds a couple of weeks ago and debunked then.
Back again. 😂
Go Rachel, I think you are amazing.

CrystalSea · 16/11/2024 12:05

She lied about her experience: <a class="break-all" href="https://archive.is/2024.11.15-210833/www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/11/15/reeves-accused-of-lying-about-her-job-history" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">https://archive.is/2024.11.15-210833/www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/11/15/reeves-accused-of-lying-about-her-job-history/

But then our current government is stuffed with liars.

@CrystalSea your links don't work, I imagine the Torygraph had to take the article down.

Source is the Daily Mail. Shocked face

Yes and interesting how the Daily Mail and the Torygraph aren’t that bothered about Boris Johnson’s track record of lying…..

OP has not come back

Strange that.

She only started the the thread just over half an hour ago, give her chance.

Birdscratch · 16/11/2024 12:10

The Telegraph seems to be following the American trend of misrepresenting or just flat out lying about the qualifications and achievements of female politicians in order to undermine them, rather than just opposing their politics.

caringcarer · 16/11/2024 12:10

I read her first role at bank was mainly admin yet she put economist on her CV. The telling bit is she's gone into LinkedIn and changed her description which shows she knows she lied in the first place. She's not doing well with our economy.

Why did she go on to her LinkedIn account and change the description then if she had not lied in the first place?

I'd like to know this too. She established her trust capital as the Chancellor with the voting population by showcasing her past career as an economist at the BoE.

I'd like to know why she isn't confident with that description now and why she changed it?

Ratherubbish · 16/11/2024 12:21

All I want to know is if or how much Reeves has exaggerated her job title, and why did she change it now? And can we trust other part of her CV?

All other information liked she graduated from Oxford/LSE, what Jeremy Hunt did before his job, Labour's economical policies are not exactly relevant imo.

Shock, horror. Uninformed Tory shares unverified prejudices from right wing tabloid on the internet as truth.

And I'm not even a Labour supporter, but at least I make up my own mind based on research and fact checking.

There’s no need to be rude, is there?

But if you want to talk intelligence, I am sure I can outdo you.

End of the day, she was caught in a lie. She’s a liar and she shouldn’t be in government.

I think people casting aspersions on someone's experience and qualifications should know that they need to do better in terms of 'evidence' than articles from a newspaper well known to be hostile to the party the person being attacked belongs to.

0/10 for OP and those following her - this is just another pathetic attack on a Labour politician, all sound and fury, signifying nothing.

itsgettingweird · 16/11/2024 12:29

Chan9eusername · 16/11/2024 11:52

I know what her career was pre politics and I'm ok with it

The vast majority of politicians from all the major parties have had fuck all actual career doing anything else. I do think that is an issue. I'd like a health secretary who's worked in a medical role in the nhs for 15-20 years, a chancellor who's worked in accountancy or tax or economics or something.

But its not limited to rachel reeves. She is a competent chancellor and is doing a good job imho

Tory hq need to fuck off with these desperate campaigns to discredit.

If you want to win the next election - look within. You won't win voters by slagging off the other parties or trying to convince people they're doing a bad job. Focus on what you would do and why its worth voting for. You aren't doing that at the moment and its why no one likes you.

Brilliant post!

Nancy1906 · 16/11/2024 12:29

You should see her face in the interview post her budget when the Gilts rose ...
She was dumbfounded and in fact on the Laura K show on sundays , it was admitted by a a Labour Dame whose name escapes me that she had a very junior position at the BoE.

Shes an incompetent nincompoop that it going to bankrupt the country , so anyone saying they're happy with her policies, doesn't have a freaking clue about Economics.

@Chan9eusername it looks like this is the single output from her on that website you quoted

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 16/11/2024 12:30

Can't one self-identify as anthing you want to these days?

(Today, I'm flower pot, I'm orangey-brown with a hole in my bottom.)

For those interested in the actual truth, here's an economics paper authored by rachel reeves during her time "making the tea"Hmm at BoE.

And? What’s your point?

It’s something that undergrads are used to writing as study assignments.

Pushmepullyou · 16/11/2024 12:33

Killingoffmyflowersonebyone · 16/11/2024 12:03

And yet others who also claimed to have work with her say she basically made the tea.

Hard to know who is telling the truth.

I can’t see the BOE paying economic graduates with post grad degrees to make tea for 6 years!
