Nose piercing

TheWorstWeek · 28/10/2024 17:20

Is it daft of me, as a 35 year old mum of two, to want a nose piercing? I think dainty little nose rings look really lovely - on other people at least! Am I too old to be thinking of getting my first piercing since I did my ear lobes when I was 12?
Also, right or left nostril?

Do it. I’m 44, can’t remember when I had mine done but have had nothing but a ring in it for a good few years now.

Sorry what does " stop with the wide eyes mean"?
OP was asking about getting a nose piercing.
I asked a genuine question as to why any one would would want to do that.
It's a public forum. I was perfectly entitled to ask that.
Since when was putting forward a view point classed as "embarrassing yourself ?

I really dislike it when I see posters on threads totally attacking the OP for their point of view. I did not do that. I questioned the point of view that a nose piercing is attractive/ a good idea. OP will undoubtedly do what she wants , as she should. But what is your problem with me voicing my opinion?

"It's not as if it's attractive" is a statement, not an opinion.

Stating that to someone who clearly finds it attractive in their opinion, makes me embarrassed for you.

Mind you, having to explain this in the first place is also making me cringe.

I'll let you work out 'wide-eyes' yourself.

Probably a bad time to tell you I'd like to get a tattoo too...

But...but...the desecration of your body! 😱

Won't someone think of the body!

I’ve got mine done, I have a small rose gold nose ring, I had mine done as a late teen for cultural reasons, I love it, I had to take it out recently to have an operation and I looked so strange without it, it was a relief to have it back in.

If you have a small hoop earring you could use that to see if it suits you.

Yes, you get so used to it being there you feel undressed without it.

Op, You could experiment with a cheap clip on to see if it suits. I did this with a belly button one as a teenager. My dad was horrified seeing it, so I yanked it out in front of him and he nearly fell over as he thought it was real. My best teenage prank on him.

I got it done properly a fortnight after.

Not a bad time at all .
You can do whatever you want with your body. That's your right.
And I reserve the right to think how awful I think it looks.
As I said earlier, I hope I am civilised enough that if I met you in real life I would be able to hide my repugnance.

NeedToChangeName · 28/10/2024 18:42

@Alwayssomethingtheretoremindme

I agree with you, I'll never really understand why someone would want tattoos, nose puercings etc, but each to their own I guess

Stinksmum · 28/10/2024 18:43

Well, I'm 58 and would love mine doing. But I'm a fainter and I know I'd make a burk of myself. So at the minute I'm wearing a fake ring in my nostril.

Heyheyitsanotherday · 28/10/2024 18:44

do it. My mum has at 60 and loves it. It looks so pretty. If you don’t like it you take it out. No drama. Life’s too short. Do what makes you happy

Well your repugnance is showing clearly here.

Jifmicroliquid · 28/10/2024 18:44

Go for it OP! I have 7 ear piercings and my belly button done, plus a lot of tattoos.
Do what makes you happy, life is short.

Acsa · 28/10/2024 18:45

Do it, you're never too old. I like my tattoos anyway, but it makes me smile knowing that it outrages so many MNers just having them, as can already be seen on this thread! It's like an added bonus. 😁

NeverDropYourMooncup · 28/10/2024 18:47

Alwayssomethingtheretoremindme · 28/10/2024 17:46

Well obviously they do it because they want it!!!
My question is why? It's not as if it's attractive.
I've always assumed it's a statement against the norms of societal norms of attractiveness. But I still don't understand why making such a statement is worth desecrating your body.
Same as tattoos actually: just why desecrate your body in that way?

Edited

Out of interest, do you feel that a Hindu woman looks ugly if she has a piercing? That's she's making a statement against the societal norms of attractiveness and is desecrating her body? That she looks like a bull?

Piercing and tattooing have both been used for millennia as adornment, decoration, as treatment (with varying effectiveness, but still as treatment) for medical conditions and as a visible part of belonging to a group or culture, along with making a choice about bodily autonomy and all of the emotions that are tied up with other people dictating what they think is attractive.

Same! When I had my groot (which my dc chose for me) I thought about the mn responses if I started a thread about it 🤣

DramaAlpaca · 28/10/2024 18:52

I had my first lobe piercings at 15, my second at 51. I'm now 60 and considering getting a tiny diamond stud in my nose. My DH is horrified at the thought but accepts it's my nose, my rules. If I do it, it'll be the left side.

OP, if you want to get it done, just do it.

Alwayssomethingtheretoremindme · 28/10/2024 18:54

murasaki · 28/10/2024 18:44

Well your repugnance is showing clearly here.

Well yes
Forgive me if I've misunderstood but I thought the idea of MN was for people to put forward different view points?
As I've already said, multiple times actually, OP can do what she wants. But she started a thread on a public forum and I voiced an opinion. Why shouldn't I? And why should I be ashamed of a perfectly valid opinion because you and others are trying to bully me .

BellaCriesAndThatsAlright · 28/10/2024 18:58

Do it! I'm 42 and have my nostril and septum and love it. People here need to get a grip. It's rather dramatic to claim it makes you feel physically sick 😂

Yorkshiregal1 · 28/10/2024 19:00

I got mine pierced this year at 41. I have 2 friends on their 40s with it pierced too, I say do it! You can always take it out.

I have to roll my eyes to comments on these sort of threads when people have a 'physical reaction' to seeing someone with a tattoo. It really isn't that deep

coffeesaveslives · 28/10/2024 19:04

Go for it Grin

I've had my nose pierced since I was 21 and I still absolutely love it. It healed so quickly and it's one of my favourite piercings.

Just imagine them all surrounding you like a herd of cows.

PJ04JCW · 28/10/2024 19:06

Do it.
I had mine done at 20, took it out at 25 and then put it back in last summer at 44.

evtheria · 28/10/2024 19:07

Do what you want! You can always take it out if you change your mind.

ObliviousCoalmine · 28/10/2024 17:53

How absolutely pathetic of you. Good lord.

Did you mean to be so rude? Just because someone doesn't understand this choice doesn't make her pathetic.

Nobody's bullying anyone. Give over.

And the OP can always take the piercing out if she doesn't like it. She's had some good tips on where to get it done etc, so I hope it's been useful for her.

Why, if you're not into piercings, would you presume to come and lecture those of us who quite like them? I don't go onto vegan recipe threads and rant about meat.

TwinklyAmberOrca · 28/10/2024 19:09

I had my nose pierced at 43. An impulsive thing but I like it.

I love piercings with the exception of tongue ones as they clack on the teeth and chip the enamel causing your teeth to rot. (More money for dentists though!)

@TheWorstWeek go ahead and get it done!
