Nose piercing

TheWorstWeek · 28/10/2024 17:20

Is it daft of me, as a 35 year old mum of two, to want a nose piercing? I think dainty little nose rings look really lovely - on other people at least! Am I too old to be thinking of getting my first piercing since I did my ear lobes when I was 12?
Also, right or left nostril?

Well obviously they do it because they want it!!!
My question is why? It's not as if it's attractive.
I've always assumed it's a statement against the norms of societal norms of attractiveness. But I still don't understand why making such a statement is worth desecrating your body.
Same as tattoos actually: just why desecrate your body in that way?

I find this kind of judgement quite baffling to be quite honest. You think it isn't attractive. There are plenty of people who think it is.

I think the facial piercings I have add to my beauty. I did have double nostril piercings at one time but removed one because I didn't like how it looked in the end. I have a septum piercing, a vertical lip piercing and a nostril piercing on my face and love them all and can't see me taking any of them out as I grow older.

Lostinbrum · 28/10/2024 17:57

Do it! I got mine done when I was 36! My first piercing since my belly button when I was 16. I wanted it done since my early 20s but never had the courage. Then one day I thought fuck it, went to a local tattoo shop and had it done. I'm 40 and still wear my little stud I love it. I have a corporate office job now aswell and never felt like I should take it out. Zero regrets

murasaki · 28/10/2024 17:58

It has nothing to do with societal norms of attractiveness. I just happen to like it on me.

Things I don't like: fake eyelashes so you look like you're carrying all of Halloween spiders on your eyelids, fillers, trout pouts, turkey teeth.

But others do, so let them crack on.

K0OLA1D · 28/10/2024 17:47

I find them attractive

Why don't you?

Because I celebrate the beauty of the human body in its natural state.
Piercings and tattoos are not natural. They also gave an unpleasant association with pain and suffering.
If that's what you are in to fair enough but I reserve my right to find piercings and tattoos unattractive and actually repugnant.
But I'm civilised enough to try to not let my feelings affect my behaviour towards those who feel differently.

Purplecatshopaholic · 28/10/2024 17:58

Do it op. Got mine to celebrate my divorce! Wear a small stud. Still love it.

Well you're not civilised enough to do that, clearly, as you're lecturing the OP.

Do you get your hair cut or dye it? Shave your legs? Not natural....

lozrox90 · 28/10/2024 17:59

I'm 34 and had my nose pierced earlier this year! I have a little ring in it now it's healed and I LOVE it! Go for it, you're never too old!

Member984815 · 28/10/2024 17:59

Go for it

It doesn't seem like you do.

The only person to express any judgement is you.

I'm not lecturing anybody.
OP started a thread on the subject of nose piercings.
I gave my view. As I'm entitled to.
OP is entitled to totally ignore my view.
Are you suggesting that only those people who agree with OP are entitled to post on this thread? Who are you to police the thread?

murasaki · 28/10/2024 18:07

Of course you can post your view and im not the thread police. I was merely pointing out that you said you were civilised enough not to try to let your feelings affect your behaviour and then did by posting a very judgmental post.

Lostinbrum · 28/10/2024 18:08

Oh and OP I got my left side pierced. Can't remember why now but there was a reason behind it. I also have a slightly wonky nose n thought it suited that side better!

Rockhop · 28/10/2024 18:09

Do it, I had mine done a couple of weeks back, and I'm a mum of 2 in my 30s as well! I had my right side done :) absolutely love it.

Oh stop with the wide-eyes, you're embarrassing yourself.

The OP obviously finds it attractive.

You don't, and that's your opinion.

It's also my opinion as it goes, but I'm not stupid enough to pretend other people don't differ.

And that's the way to express a difference of opinion!

Pomegranatecarnage · 28/10/2024 18:14

I had my nose pierced at 16 in 1985. I still wear it! I’m 55!

TheGriffle · 28/10/2024 18:14

Do it! I’m 38 and have just swapped my stud for a teeny tiny gold nose ring. I had it pierced in July. It is honestly so small you wouldn’t see it from a distance but I love the way it looks. I’ve just had my lobes done as well as they’d healed up since I had them done as a teen.

Emmylou22 · 28/10/2024 18:17

I love my nose stud! I used to hate my nose as I thought it was too big. Having it pierced helped me love my nose. I feel naked if I haven't got a stud in; it's that much a part of me now. Do it! You can always take it out if you don't like it.

Iheartmysmart · 28/10/2024 18:19

I had mine done when I was fifty. I’d had quite a lot of dental treatment one day and decided to get my nose pierced while my face was numb. Still made me sneeze though!

Hammy19 · 28/10/2024 18:20

I got my left nostril done when I was 43, I love it and get compliments on it. I chose left because I sleep on my right side so I thought it would get pulled less that way

Ozzyskye · 28/10/2024 18:25

I'm a 35 year old mum with a very grown up professional job - I have a nose ring. I had my tragus pierced as an adult and will be getting a daith followed by some forward helix piercings in the coming months. Do what makes you happy!

Got my left nostril done at 45.

And 12 ear piercings since!

Sorry what does " stop with the wide eyes mean"?
OP was asking about getting a nose piercing.
I asked a genuine question as to why any one would would want to do that.
It's a public forum. I was perfectly entitled to ask that.
Since when was putting forward a view point classed as "embarrassing yourself ?

I really dislike it when I see posters on threads totally attacking the OP for their point of view. I did not do that. I questioned the point of view that a nose piercing is attractive/ a good idea. OP will undoubtedly do what she wants , as she should. But what is your problem with me voicing my opinion?

Simonjt · 28/10/2024 18:36

I’ve got mine done, I have a small rose gold nose ring, I had mine done as a late teen for cultural reasons, I love it, I had to take it out recently to have an operation and I looked so strange without it, it was a relief to have it back in.

If you have a small hoop earring you could use that to see if it suits you.

Probably a bad time to tell you I'd like to get a tattoo too...
