The Labour Party are bloody hypocrites

I think Angela rayner has got a nerve to start slashing the right to buy when she has profited from it, is she going to give the money back then that she pocketed from this scheme when she sold her house? I have always been a labour supporter and I am as working class as they come but I am so angry about this. I am not denying that the right to buy policy has its issues but it's just tinkering around the edges of the housing crisis and ignoring the real issues. I may be slightly emotional about this as I live in a one bedroomed council flat that I was planning on buying next year, my only hope of probably ever owning a property. Instead, if and when I choose to have children and I am overcrowded, they will now have to rehouse me themselves instead to a bigger property and I will now probably be a lifelong council tenant. Fabulous. Why are they targeting the people at the bottom? I can't support them anymore sadly.

Important to remember that Rayner bought her council house 7 years before she became an MP. I still think she shouldn't have done it-but people are allowed to make bad decisions...

In a way … this “investment scheme” rent to buy, seems like a NOT to fit the definition Labour says is “working people”
Right to buy should be taxed on the difference between market and actual price paid. Tax paid on the “discounted” rent ….

Are they just bribing for votes too?

Well start off I wouldn't trust a word that comes from the BBC so ill ignore that link.

But seen as your a fan of the BBC - www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-67967919 www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-67967919]]]]

But to recap -

"Girls were "left at the mercy" of paedophile grooming gangs for years because of failings by senior police and council bosses, a report has said.
The review covers 2004 to 2013, external and sets out a series of failed investigations by Greater Manchester Police (GMP).
It also highlights the apparent local authority indifference to the plight of hundreds of youngsters identified as potential victims of Asian men.
GMP has apologised and said such cases were handled very differently now.
The report also identifies 96 men still deemed a potential risk to children, adding that this was "only a proportion" of the numbers involved in the abuse.
Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham has since called for disciplinary action to be taken against police officers and council officials who "failed in their duties" as well as some prosecutors in the North West.
He also praised whistleblowers, including health worker Sara Rowbotham and former GMP detective Maggie Oliver, who raised concerns despite facing vocal criticism from authorities.
In 2007, Ms Rowbotham and her team had alerted GMP and Rochdale Council about a gang of men of Pakistani and Afghan heritage engaged in child sexual exploitation (CSE) while Ms Oliver resigned from GMP in 2012 to publicly reveal the extent of the police failings"

Are you telling me that the police knew, the council knew BUT the Labour MPs who served that council - had no idea. Lol.

I seriously doubt it - especially with Naz Shah conduct around it.

But you do know it don't you, you just dont care about it. I see you

I’m saying that the Jay report doesn’t even mention MPs. Since you don’t like the BBC, the actual report here supports my argument, not yours.

Add to that the Hesley group ABUSE at disabled schools - dozens of reports to police, social care and safeguarding … yet no action taken. Schools in Rotherham & Doncaster.
A whistleblower finally got school closed down but NO arrests because it was “too long ago” for “non -sexual” assaults and “not enough evidence”

The schools are owned by Private Equity & most staff working at other schools now.

Labour loves the criminals.

I cant honestly think of any other reason why some one would be denying this all the way through a thread. Its shameful

BIossomtoes · 28/10/2024 13:20

I have no idea what the deleted post said but nobody’s denying anything. Rotherham was a shameful and appalling stain on this country’s history, particularly the council and police force which were both responsible.

Saying that there is no evidence any MPs were involved in a cover up is not shameful.

Your post was shameful, good thing it was deleted.

So it's not going to make an impact on housing stock for the next 50 years until I die, we need more house building right now.

It would be easier to build houses "right now" if councils sold council houses at a price that enabled them to commission replacements.

Tryingtokeepgoing · 28/10/2024 13:40

BIossomtoes · 28/10/2024 09:26

Clearly it is defamation. That’s why she won her libel case.

She didn’t win a libel case because someone said she’d sent a tweet. She won the libel case because of a load of stuff that then followed. That might seem pedantic, but in the matter of law that’s quite an important distinction. There’s nothing defamatory or libellous about stating an undisputed (and easily verifiable) fact.

It’s not the price that’s the issue, up to now councils are constrained by legislation preventing them from replacing them.

Letsbe · 28/10/2024 13:41

You are absolutely right someone should but up theses houses so there are no council one bed flats to rent.

CurlewKate · 28/10/2024 13:53

@BIossomtoes "Rotherham was a shameful and appalling stain on this country’s history, particularly the council and police force which were both responsible"

Indeed. But as you say, there is no evidence that MPs were involved.

I think a much bigger issue is people being allowed to stay in properties that are no longer suitable for them. My aunt lives in a four bedroomed council house in her 50's when her children are all in their 30's and moved out. She then gave her kids house deposits. It keeps the housing stock stagnant. My mum lives in a three bedroomed council house and has asked to downsize and she has been told no.

I am curious as to how so many people in your family have been able to get council housing? I thought it was hard to get.

It wasn't as hard years ago. I'm 60 and I remember when I was late teens early 20s my local council used to have an "engaged couples" list. That's how one of my friends back then got a council flat.

Anna Dixon, John Grogan, Tracy Brabin who was the mayor of West Yorkshire plus many councillors refused to support an inquiry in to the Sexual Exploitation of young girls by grooming gangs.

There you wanted evidence of MPs knowing and covering it up. They were told it was happening and they looked the other way.

Im not arguing this point anymore. They knew and allowed it to continue for votes.

Dont think that i think the Tories are better - I don’t they are just as bad. But im sick to the back teeth of people happy that it’s Labour fucking us over - just because it’s not the Tories. They are all a bunch of rancid, rotten apples.

Evidence? The timescales don’t work anyway. Dixon only got elected this year and Brabin in 2016.

newnamethanks · 28/10/2024 16:32

It certainly wasn't as hard to get council accommodation years ago. That's because there was an adequate supply of housing. What happened? How did it become almost impossible for councils to carry out their statutory obligations re housing? Right to buy. So people bought. Councils not permitted to spend money from the sales on replacing lost housing stock. Result? Tent cities.

I doubt it. Brabin replaced Jo Cox in 2016, she was still engaged in her theatrical career until then and it was the only seat she ever applied for. Anna Dixon wasn’t even selected until 2022 and was a high flying civil servant based in London prior to that. Nice try, no cigar.

prestatynprlck · 28/10/2024 18:18

I would love nothing more than to be able to choose my own house in my own area and buy off the open market, 15 or 20 years ago I would have done and my salary would have got my a nice family home. If would make it a lot easier for me if I could and I wouldn't have to live here foreseeable future. Even with right to buy I would have been living here for at least the next 5 years until I could sell it and buy something bigger.
