The Labour Party are bloody hypocrites

I think Angela rayner has got a nerve to start slashing the right to buy when she has profited from it, is she going to give the money back then that she pocketed from this scheme when she sold her house? I have always been a labour supporter and I am as working class as they come but I am so angry about this. I am not denying that the right to buy policy has its issues but it's just tinkering around the edges of the housing crisis and ignoring the real issues. I may be slightly emotional about this as I live in a one bedroomed council flat that I was planning on buying next year, my only hope of probably ever owning a property. Instead, if and when I choose to have children and I am overcrowded, they will now have to rehouse me themselves instead to a bigger property and I will now probably be a lifelong council tenant. Fabulous. Why are they targeting the people at the bottom? I can't support them anymore sadly.

Well, yes obviously not - but what has that got to do with withdrawing the Right to Buy?

Sorry, I only read the thread title!

Point stands though.

I'm sure you're glad to hear that the Labour party acted with speed and suspended him. That makes a positive change after the previous government doesn't it?

Today there was an article interviewing the daughter of David Ames MP, who was murdered by a Jihadi.

But I am not aware of any conservative MPs ever physically attacking their constituents.

Zonder · 27/10/2024 20:59

Quite possibly not but there have been plenty of Tory MPs involved in various nefarious acts who the then government didn't rush to suspend. So you must be pleased with how this has been handled so far.

@Zonder "But I am not aware of any conservative MPs ever physically attacking their constituents"

Very glad to hear it. Quite a lot of other inappropriate behaviour going on through. Not "physically attacking" is a pretty low bar!

CurlewKate · 27/10/2024 21:04

I'm so sorry, @Zonder. I got the names wrong. My last post was for @Wouldbedriver

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 27/10/2024 21:18

Well Crispin Blunt was arrested (currently released under investigation I believe) for rape a few months ago. I don't know if it was a constituent who accused him though - is that part important?

In all fairness, he did lose the Tory whip over it.

Then there was Chris Pincher, who Johnson knew had been accused of groping but kept him on anyway. That's probably more damning in terms of the party's response (or lack of) to allegations of assault.

I'm not sure how this Labour MP punching someone shows any hypocrisy though. More general unpleasant thuggish-ness. I'm glad he's been suspended.

Another thing that concerns me though about a lack of right to buy is what do all the council tenants do in retirement? And what about parents of young families like me in the future when they have rented all their lives and either can't afford to retire or can’t afford to pay rent?

The same as those who didn't get a council property?

BanjoKnickers · 27/10/2024 23:36

"I am not aware of any conservative MPs ever physically attacking their constituents"

Now there's a stirring slogan to get the voters behind them - at the moment it's probably the best they've got.

Sorry to hear this.

I voted Labour and now bitterly regret it - although for other reasons of betrayal.

ShowmetheBotox · 28/10/2024 07:06

I wish we would move away from Labour v Tories when actually both were/are shockingly bad and corrupt. BOTH of them. I think people feel it a little more of Labour because they promised change but in fact were exactly the same and really don’t care what people think.

We are in a weird place of people not caring they are getting **ucked in the arse as long as it’s not the Tories doing it.

I am genuinely concerned about the future, there is a lot of civil unrest and the divide between mega rich and poor will only get bigger with no middle ground.

The Tories hid they were screwing us over where as Labour has ripped the plaster off and are quite blatant about doing it.

MPs conduct - especially on Twitter is shameful, embarrassing and unprofessional.

None of the parties we have are worthy. Absolutely none of them and we deserve better because WE pay their wages. The two major parties have fucked is over big time.

I didn’t vote this year because the outcome was always going to be the same. The country is turning in to a violent shit hole with MPs more concerned about votes than what’s actually good for the Uk. I hoping to move out of the Uk in the next 18 months.

But yes, all of them are bastards and they need sacking. Money grabbing, currupt frauds - all of them

Quite a few sex offenders in that group I believe with some extremely serious allegations.

AlbionLass · 28/10/2024 07:34

I judge a ‘man’ who would use a sucker punch on someone who clearly wasn’t a threat, pretty harshly.

What a fucking bully and coward.

CurlewKate · 28/10/2024 07:58

@AlbionLass You'll be glad that the Labour hierarchy obviously agree with you.

Yes, im pleased there was no attempt at a cover up etc.

Mind you, the footage was damning!

and the Labour MPs covered up for thousands of sex abusers.

They are both sides of the same coin.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 28/10/2024 08:16

I never understand why people think they should have the right to buy their council houses. It's my understanding that council house residents have secure tenure for life, so it isn't as if they are going to get kicked out if they don't buy. We need to keep the social housing stock for future generations. Or, if we must sell it off, then it needs to be sold at proper market rates with all of the money being invested back into new social housing.

People need secure and suitable housing. They don't need to own their own homes. There is no reason why those who are lucky enough to get a council property should be able to profit from buying that property at a lower price while many others on the waiting list can't get council housing at all. If you want to buy, buy privately. If you can't afford to buy privately, then be glad that you have a secure home provided by the council... many people would love to be in your situation.

PandoraSox · 28/10/2024 08:44

I don't know why Amesbury is being used as some kind of gotcha. There has always been MPs who have turned out to be criminals.

The by-election will be interesting!

Well Naz Shah (Bradford West) tweeted only a few years ago that the victims of abuse should “shut their mouths for the good of diversity”. And I am sure that a quick google would uncover a whole heap more unpleasant behaviour by Labour MPs and councillors in that area. Not something I plan on googling however.

What you have written is defamation.

https://fullfact.org/online/naz-shah-diversity-quote-tweet/

In 2020, Ms Shah successfully sued the campaigning group Leave.EU after it called her a “grooming gang apologist” in a 2019 Facebook post. The group apologised and accepted Ms Shah was a "vociferous campaigner for victims of grooming gangs", said their post was “ill-judged and untrue” and paid her damages for libel.

She told the Yorkshire Post at that time: “I refuse to be defined by a tweet, that was up for eight minutes, that was rectified.”

YES! The Rotherham grooming gangs plus the many many other counties that it happened in.

Do not fool yourself that Labour are any better than the Tories.
