Restaurants adding honey to cheese!

Baked Camembert ruined by drowning it in honey, same for mozzarella sticks.

Who started this awful trend for adding honey to perfectly good cheese?

Or am I weird for not liking it?

YANBU. Honey is horrible! 😖

I do love bees though. 🐝

WaneyEdge · 20/10/2024 15:49

Ask for it without?

jeaux90 · 20/10/2024 15:49

I can't stand honey, how dare they ruin cheese with it!

burnoutbabe · 20/10/2024 15:50

I had honey offered with cheese pizzas in Japan. It is lovely!

Hot honey is all the rage at the moment. It's lovely.

I was on one of the Greek islands earlier this year and saw fried feta with honey and sesame seeds on the menu. I was feeling brave and ordered it. It was delicious, the salty feta and honey complemented each other perfectly.

ThespTheo · 20/10/2024 15:51

I think honey is delish but I don’t want it on my cheese, certainly not as a surprise addition! Wasn’t on either menu.

I don't really eat sweet stuff, it makes me feel ill. I also really dislike sweet and savoury together; ham and pineapple, pork and apple sauce etc.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 20/10/2024 15:51

I don't love it either - the combination of sweet and salty and cheesy tends to remind me of vomiting.

Yes, I had honey on pizza in Whitechapel (bit less exciting than Japan) and it was delicious!

lemonlavendar · 20/10/2024 15:52

Spain serves honey with cheese. Delicious

Agreed - I’ve had this and it’s delicious.

DappledThings · 20/10/2024 15:53

Love it. I remember being on a stupidly early flight to Seville once and the 3am wake up was entirely worth it when by 10 I was in a beautiful square having breakfast of toasted bread with goat's cheese and honey.

It's good with feta and halloumi too.

CoutingCrones · 20/10/2024 15:53

It’s not a recent trend, they’ve been doing it since at least the 80s in the U.K., and basically forever in parts of the Middle East.

Cheese, figs, honey and walnuts is a classic combination.

It doesn’t suit all cheeses, but neither does that balsamic glaze some restaurants like to add. I just ask for it without

phoenixrosehere · 20/10/2024 15:53

I’ve not seen this trend at all.

I think restaurants wouldn’t bat an eye if you ask for the honey to be omitted or not order it at all.

SabreIsMyFave · 20/10/2024 15:53

It's OK if someone likes honey. I think it's vile.

Like salted caramel. Whose idea was that?! Confused VILE!

Ah, thought it might have been in the description! I’d love it with feta I think or a salty cheese, not so much with mozzarella.

I'd be rather upset, if it wasn't specified.

YouveGotAFastCar · 20/10/2024 15:55

I like honey on Camembert.

It’s definitely all over pizza more these days. Was a pain in the bum when DS was weaning!

AndThereSheGoes · 20/10/2024 15:55

My DH always has honey and cheese on his toast when we are on holiday.
I think he likes being a bit pretentious because he doesn't have it at home

I don't like it. Even caramelised onion is too sweet for cheese IMO.
