There's something weird going on in my house

horseHorseHorse · 19/10/2024 23:31

For the last couple of weeks I've been noticing lights on when I come in when I'm 100% sure I've turned them off. Milk out on the side when I'm sure it's been put away. Stuff moved around but not in an obvious way, just a "huh, I could have sworn I left that somewhere else."

Put it down to rushed mornings and my cats playing with stuff.

Been out most of the day, just went into the upstairs bathroom for the first time since this morning and there's blood on the loo tank. Thought it could have come from a cat bringing something in but the door has been closed all day, and it's on the third floor so it's not like they could have got in and out like that. Windows have been closed too.

I have already bought carbon monoxide detectors in addition to the wired in ones. They're all over the house but haven't picked anything up.

Have a loft but the hatch is tiny and doesn't seem to have been disturbed.

Have an internal camera which shows the front door and hall - no activity though it did show my dog going bonkers barking at something outside a couple of times today (though the external camera isn't up yet so I couldn't see what)

Only direct family have keys and they wouldn't do stuff like this. Will be changing the locks tomorrow!

I'm properly creeped out ATM! Husband will be back shortly from work thank god! I'm in the bedroom with the door wedged shut for the moment!

Please someone give me a rational explanation!

Has anything else weird happened since the police came @horseHorseHorse?

horseHorseHorse · 22/10/2024 14:33

No, but at least one of us has been at home since. We're both working tomorrow and tbh I'm a bit nervous about it. Going to drop the dog off at my sister's on the way in so no one should be going into the house at all.

Serious question, why do you think nothing else has happened because you've been in the house?

newnamenoname1 · 22/10/2024 15:32

I might have to start a poll on this. Seriously curious.

How many of you wipe down your cistern every morning before rushing out of the house? Is that a common think to do?

Take photos of how it’s left.

Sounds like a job for The Ghostbusters.

One of my friends cleaned her bathroom every morning when she had a white bathroom. (I don't, but I would notice spatter and wipe it.)

Im here waiting for the discovery of the phrogger in the walls or the time slip, The Devil's Hour style.

Oh that’s the best popcorn gif ever

horseHorseHorse · 22/10/2024 18:03

I wiped it over because I'd dropped the toothpaste and it you leave it, it sets into hard lumps that are difficult to remove.

@WellOwlBeDamned

probably a gang thing

Your nice photo of Roland and Kevin both of whom I've not thought of for years was labelled 'sensitive content' for me by MN!!!

ItsAllSoBleak · 22/10/2024 18:17

@catherinemeg

I took a couple of days off uni and parked my car at my friends house and waited upstairs and about 10am I heard my dog barking and the door opening and someone walking about downstairs.

You must have been terrified going downstairs. How long did it take to register the man with his back to your was your father? how scared were you before then? I'd have called the police I think before I ventured downstairs.

Did you find out why he was doing it or mixed allergens in your food?

I'm SO impressed with your bravery.

Michael Steel Paranormal Investigator in the North West area offers a free service apparently. Could rule that out?

I feel for you.

I have got notes of the lights on,lights off thing in a hotel room (hotel I stayed in every week for work). Also in a bathroom. At first I thought I had I had also forgot to turn off the light, was up and down all night because I kept being awoken by a clicking noise, and found the ensuite bathroom light was on, when I had definitely turned it off. So got up, turned it off. And then, back on again. Left it on, it turned itself off. Felt like I was going slightly mad and I had forgotten whether they were on or off, so I ended up writing it down in a 2.15am light on, 2.30 am light off sort of way. Clicking noise traced to a wardrobe in room. Seemed to stop when I was near it. Nothing bad happened, all low level stuff, unless you count me hardly getting any sleep with the bloody clicking and the lights going off and on. Went down to reception the next morning and said "look, don't put me in that room again, you have got a problem with your electrics in there, you cannot get any sleep". And, they knew. And not in a good way.

This is terrifying - was someone in the wardrobe? How were they turning the lights on and off?

Omg that's horrible! Was someone doing it on purpose?

I do. Very quickly with my face towel before chucking it in the laundry basket. Usually doing two other things at the same time. 😅

Hang on! how have ye concluded that the poster was sharing a room with a resident in the wardrobe. I actually can't stop laughing. And the person was turning the light off and on and the poster was terrified in the bed.

Assuming you and hubby have not dabbled in anything occulty or taken in a creepy new piece of furniture or started renovations on the house lately...?

Just to rule out that at this spooky time of year.

I suspect as others have said, the blood was the cat and the other stuff, just combo of you, your partner and your sister and forgetfulness.

VikingFortiesCromartyNorthWest4to6South3to5Later · 22/10/2024 19:49

There is definitely something totally inexplicable going on here.

I think it's just the sister tbh

I'm very impressed! I can barely herd the humans and dogs along in the morning. That must be why we have all wall hung toilets 😂No visible cisterns.

I think that theory has been factually denied by OP. Therefore, it really does remain a mystery. Incredible even.

It will be interesting to see what happens when her sister isn't visiting everyday to see to the dog.

I caught myself giving the milk in the fridge a stern look this evening, like 'don't take yourself out'

'We don't do any of that malarkey in this house! ...unless you also want to make me a brew, in which case, carry on'.
