There's something weird going on in my house

horseHorseHorse · 19/10/2024 23:31

For the last couple of weeks I've been noticing lights on when I come in when I'm 100% sure I've turned them off. Milk out on the side when I'm sure it's been put away. Stuff moved around but not in an obvious way, just a "huh, I could have sworn I left that somewhere else."

Put it down to rushed mornings and my cats playing with stuff.

Been out most of the day, just went into the upstairs bathroom for the first time since this morning and there's blood on the loo tank. Thought it could have come from a cat bringing something in but the door has been closed all day, and it's on the third floor so it's not like they could have got in and out like that. Windows have been closed too.

I have already bought carbon monoxide detectors in addition to the wired in ones. They're all over the house but haven't picked anything up.

Have a loft but the hatch is tiny and doesn't seem to have been disturbed.

Have an internal camera which shows the front door and hall - no activity though it did show my dog going bonkers barking at something outside a couple of times today (though the external camera isn't up yet so I couldn't see what)

Only direct family have keys and they wouldn't do stuff like this. Will be changing the locks tomorrow!

I'm properly creeped out ATM! Husband will be back shortly from work thank god! I'm in the bedroom with the door wedged shut for the moment!

Please someone give me a rational explanation!

Thanks, that makes sense! @horseHorseHorse

Na, this is mental. You called the police because your husband left the milk out and there is a spider shitting all over your cistern. They had some laugh over their mcflurries 10 mins after leaving your house.

I called 101 for advice. They decided to send someone out.

Can you please just stop? It's not funny.

OP it must be some kind of insect poo or similar on your cistern.
Put camera all around the house (hidden ones) and then go out. You will be able to watch from your phone.
Good luck!

They sent some one out so what happened, did they check the loft? Have you any relations that are letting their friends in without your knowledge?
?

VikingFortiesCromartyNorthWest4to6South3to5Later · 21/10/2024 22:29

I wonder what it is.

No, there's no ladder in the loft and we hadn't got one at 5am! DH has checked since and there's nothing amiss up there.

No, only family who live close are my parents and sister. Parents are disabled and don't really visit my house, sister walks the dog are previously stated.

dawngreen · 21/10/2024 22:35

Could it be friend/relation/fella of friend walking the dog if sister lets some one else walk the dog? Any thing missing from your house?

Ramblethroughthebrambles · 21/10/2024 22:36

Is it worth asking the few people who have keys to check none are missing & think whether anyone has had access to their keys? Though it's odd if someone has used the key to enter without the dog bothering. Putting flour down to check for animal footprints also sounded a good idea earlier.

dawngreen · 21/10/2024 22:36

Ask your neighbours if they have cctv opposite your house maybe ?

Calliopespa · 21/10/2024 22:39

Could it be a ghost who is at that time of the month and spattered blood when she removed a tampon? 👻

Does your sister take the dog out all day/home with her....or just for a stroll then back to your home again.

If she does take it to hers/walks for hours you could assume that a person or persons would enter an empty house while she and the dog are out...
Window of opportunity.

If she walks then returns to your home straight away does she not notice things have been moved/left out/lights on that weren't there before she came in.

As I've said it must be happening while they're out because if dog is there alone surely it would bark and person/s would be a bit suspicious of entering a property with a dog inside.

This is why I wondered if it was someone know to your dog other than your parents/sister.

KateDelRick · 21/10/2024 22:42

What did the police say?

So there's your answer.

NetZeroZealot · 21/10/2024 22:50

Christ aren’t people bored of this yet.

Dino11 · 21/10/2024 22:55

I know we are leaving lights on at this time of year more by accident in mornings, it’s dark when we get up then as it gets light we forget they are on.

No idea about the other stuff

YarkYark · 21/10/2024 22:58

OP when you started this a couple of days ago you said "For the last couple of weeks...", well, has this continued for the last couple of days, since this thread has been running, or not? Are things still being strangely moved? Is there more blood in the bathroom?

craftysnake · 21/10/2024 22:59

No teens skiving school?

dawngreen · 21/10/2024 23:02

Its either a wind up - yawn

Unless your sister is not locking up properly, or she has some one with her who stays in the house while the dog gets walked.

VikingFortiesCromartyNorthWest4to6South3to5Later · 21/10/2024 23:06

Cameras would show us. But what a faff to have to do that. I am just hoping a poster with a bright idea could help the OP.
