There's something weird going on in my house

1000 replies

horseHorseHorse · 19/10/2024 23:31

For the last couple of weeks I've been noticing lights on when I come in when I'm 100% sure I've turned them off. Milk out on the side when I'm sure it's been put away. Stuff moved around but not in an obvious way, just a "huh, I could have sworn I left that somewhere else."

Put it down to rushed mornings and my cats playing with stuff.

Been out most of the day, just went into the upstairs bathroom for the first time since this morning and there's blood on the loo tank. Thought it could have come from a cat bringing something in but the door has been closed all day, and it's on the third floor so it's not like they could have got in and out like that. Windows have been closed too.

I have already bought carbon monoxide detectors in addition to the wired in ones. They're all over the house but haven't picked anything up.

Have a loft but the hatch is tiny and doesn't seem to have been disturbed.

Have an internal camera which shows the front door and hall - no activity though it did show my dog going bonkers barking at something outside a couple of times today (though the external camera isn't up yet so I couldn't see what)

Only direct family have keys and they wouldn't do stuff like this. Will be changing the locks tomorrow!

I'm properly creeped out ATM! Husband will be back shortly from work thank god! I'm in the bedroom with the door wedged shut for the moment!

Please someone give me a rational explanation!

Sorry, haven't read whole thread, but pollen from lilies can resemble tiny flecks of dried blood.

They're toxic to cats so I never have them.

I've just had a rat problem. Luckily for me, they didn't know how to open the fridge.

Sis? That you? Grin When I was a kid my mum started accusing me and my sister of taking stuff out of the fridge.

We swore blind it wasn't us but mum never believed us. She'd say look, you can have stuff but you need to tell me so I know to get some more. We'd tell her we would do that IF we were taking stuff BUT WE WEREN'T.

Until the day she watched the cat hook her claws into the rubber seal, pull the fridge door open, help herself to a sausage then knock the fridge door shut with her bum!

I'm 50 and I'm still slightly miffed at the false accusations Grin

That's exactly what our cat did! She wiggled her paw between the seals, knicked some chicken and shoved the door closed. No wonder she never ate the Choosy!

Have you heard of phogging pronounced fogging.?There are many stories about this happening. Please read up in it.

Trumptonagain · 21/10/2024 21:44

I've asked twice now about how the person who's entering your house when you're not there must be known to your dog.

Or is it so laid back its quite happy to just watch strangers doing as they please in your house?

😂
Oh, the frustration!

Firealarm1414 · 21/10/2024 21:54

Haven't read the full thread so don't know if anyone had said this but do you have a carbon monoxide alarm? There's a famous thread on reddit where a guy was finding post it notes in unfamiliar handwriting around his house and thought someone was breaking in, maybe his landlord. Turned out he was doing it himself and didnt remember any of it because he was slowly being poisoned by carbon monoxide. I'm sure it's unlikely though but maybe something to consider

OP said her sister comes in the house to walk the dog every weekday, so dog is very familiar with her!

edit- although may have misunderstood your post, unless you mean someone else entering the house who’s not the sister!

*phrogging, and it’s highly unlikely that’s what’s going on here

NewGreenDuck · 21/10/2024 20:23

We had a cat, years ago, who found out how to open the fridge door. We couldn't work out why cooked meat was disappearing, and then we caught her in action. I dread to think what else she had sampled before we found out. There will be a rational explanation, you just need to discover it.

That has made me laugh. Picturing the cat waiting till everyone was out then sauntering over to the fridge for a little root around and seeing what takes her fancy!😸

Yes of course I do, and not frustrated at all...
But it's a logical question to someone that's posted looking for advice on what could be going on inside her house...

Next???

There's only my sister, and she's known the dog since birth!

Looks to me like flea poop has melted with the bathroom humidity during the course of the day

Yes...if OP is adamant its not her Sister doing these things and unless she walks the dog from the minute OP is out until her return, leaving the house totally empty I'd have thought the dog may deter unwanted visitors.

Mercedes45 · 21/10/2024 22:08

Na, this is mental. You called the police because your husband left the milk out and there is a spider shitting all over your cistern. They had some laugh over their mcflurries 10 mins after leaving your house.
