Pigeonqueen · 15/10/2024 23:07

It’s giving moany Mumsnetter. 😉

NuffSaidSam · 15/10/2024 23:09

I like mooching.

Not keen on 'it's been a minute' , unless it has, in fact, been a minute.

YesIReallyDidOK · 15/10/2024 23:09

Excellent, if we're having a thread like this can everyone stop saying "throw this one back".

Please. I am begging you.

Dweetfidilove · 15/10/2024 23:09

It's been a minute since I've heard anyone mention mooching 🤷🏾‍♀️.

EmeraldRoulette · 15/10/2024 23:10

I like “mooching”

I haven’t heard the minute one.

LittleMissPollyHadADolly · 15/10/2024 23:10

Looks like it's been 3 minutes

Moonshiners · 15/10/2024 23:10

I love the term mooching. Not that I get to do it ever.

QuestionableMouse · 15/10/2024 23:11

Eh, language is fluid and always developing. Slang phrases come and go. It'll be something else soon. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

JesusOnAYamaha · 15/10/2024 23:12

Mooching is a smug activity undertaken by cunts only.

Timelash · 15/10/2024 23:17

Yeah, mooching is a cool word. It’s up there with perpendicular and hippopotamus and nullification.

OptimismvsRealism · 15/10/2024 23:17

Well count me in as one of those, as I LOVE a mooch.

Bellatrixpure · 15/10/2024 23:21

vibing or vibes. Hate it

DappledThings · 15/10/2024 23:25

I only hear "it's been a minute" from my 6 year old when I tell her I'll do something in a minute and she takes it literally, counts to 60 and complains.

Is there some other slang use of it I'm not aware of?

Instead of saying, to DH, 'do you fancy a mooch round the shopping centre' I asked if he would like a smooch around the shopping centre! He was up for it!😂😂

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/10/2024 00:31

Mooching is fine, minute is not. Bangs can fuck off too unless you're actually American.

IdaPrentice · 16/10/2024 00:35

It's one of those irritating phrases that were spread online, like 'I was today years old when...'

Falsenegative · 16/10/2024 00:37

Can we also please stop adding no to the end of sentences, no? It’s really, really annoying no?

Not as bad as the:

"Tell me that you're blah blah blah without saying you're blah blah blah"

SnowFrogJelly · 16/10/2024 00:43

Eh

Absolutely, and let's also stop adding "So" to the beginning of sentences for literally no reason whatsoever.

Once again, happy to beg, if that's what you all need to stop this fucking madness.

BrandyandGinger · 16/10/2024 01:30

So, I can't even mooch around a bookshop, no?
Even if I've been busy and it's been a minute since I had a good mooch?

JesusOnAYamaha · 16/10/2024 01:31

The pointless aimless "so" came from David Brent. Twenty five years ago! I agree, it needs to stop.

Also, turning a statement into a question, either via upspeak or written as text. Eg "I'm 24?" Are you asking me or telling me?

J1Dub · 16/10/2024 01:36

I wish people would stop saying "actively" so much.
