Pizza Hut Buffet

IAKnowyou · 14/10/2024 17:46

Posting here to hopefully get some quick answers.

So I will be going to Pizza Hut for the buffet, at the weekend with my child for one of her friend's parties.
There's a few of us going, and I've had a look online and at weekends it is 15.99 per adult and 10.99 for children !
I am absolutely not going to eat 15.99 worth of pizza! And I doubt my child will eat £11 worth.
Would I be unreasonable to just pay for my child and maybe have a slice of pizza or 2?
I know they charge different per head to stop this. But how do they police this ??
It's not a huge deal, but I would definitely like to know before I go, and like to know if other people do this or not ?
Thanks !

Yeah it's a total rip off op. Unless you're a massive bloke who eats like a horse you're unlikely to get your moneys worth.

CloudywMeatballs · 14/10/2024 19:01

@LittleMousewithcloggson has said explained best why taking some of your child's pizza is in fact stealing.

"She has paid for her daughter to eat as much pizza as her daughter can eat.
She has not paid for herself to eat any pizza. Therefore the definition of stealing is completely matched as the pizza she has taken is pizza huts and she has no intention of paying for it!"

I’m more embarrassed for the person inviting others out for a birthday and not paying

IAKnowyou · 14/10/2024 18:55

@zeitweilig yes I'm a dirty scrounging theif. But only on Mumsnet

And potentially in Pizza Hut

LouH5 · 14/10/2024 19:04

How do they police this ? Do they have a staff member to watch each table ??

They don’t watch every table, but if there was a table with a group of people and one person said “nothing for me thanks” then I think they would be keeping an eye on that person.

I know it’s different but also kind of the same, once went to a bottomless brunch where one of the girls was pregnant so she didn’t want to pay for the booze so she just got a normal meal. She was early in the pregnancy and not showing, and waiting staff not-so-subtly watched her like a hawk to make sure she wasn’t drinking our drinks.

Yup. In the real world you'd probably be downgraded from dirty thief to dodgy chancer. Asking on MN how to scam pizza hut out of 16 quid isn't the work of a criminal mastermind for sure.

Pixie2015 · 14/10/2024 19:05

That sounds like steeling to me !

Mummysaf · 14/10/2024 19:06

ps aren’t some people uptight - wow fancy getting this anal over someone asking a question?
for the record they won’t care about a slice
if you grabbed a plate though yes

I haven't had Pizza Hut buffet since I was a child, now I want to eat some 😋😋😋

IAKnowyou · 14/10/2024 18:43

But I have paid. If you want to get political. It's paid for. By ME. I'm not making a 5 year old pay for herself and scrounging off of her plate.
Forgive me for being naive and thinking this wouldn't be a problem.
It appears I was incredibly wrong, and have now started pizzagate #2

If two people are eating from that one plate, you are scrounging from it. Either you or your daughter can eat from that plate - so you can pay for it for yourself or for someone else. You can’t pay one price for two people.

I’m not sure what mental gymnastics you have to go through to think otherwise.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 14/10/2024 19:09

Can someone explain to me the two cards at Tesco thing? Is that trying the points on two clubcards?

IAKnowyou · 14/10/2024 19:09

@makemeanoffericantrefuse yes of course. How could I forget, in Pizza Hut too.

Please let us know if you enjoyed your stolen slice of pizza you absolute criminal 😂

StripyDog · 14/10/2024 19:12

Sethera · 14/10/2024 18:16

The individual pizzas aren't much cheaper than the buffet, but you would then be able to take leftovers home. Or, you could have a salad/pasta/flatbread. Personally I'd do that - the buffet is all the pizzas they haven't sold and are nearing use-by date, so likely to be a bit stale.

The buffet is definitely not stale pizza. They are all freshly made, the same as any other pizza you’d order off the menu. The demand in ours is phenomenal. It’s a constant conveyer belt of pizzas coming out to replace the same type of pizza that has been eaten. Our local one even takes requests!

tachetastic · 14/10/2024 19:12

For goodness sake.

You have to pay for your DD to have the buffet or there is no point going. If you aren't prepared to pay for your own meal then have a sandwich before you get there, try to survive 90 minutes without carbs, and spend the money on a bottle of wine on the way home.

If you are determined to be caught committing theft infront of your daughter, her school friends and their parents, don't let it be at Pizza Hut. At least let her think that her criminal mother has standards.

Nobody is being anal.
They're pointing out why this is stealing.

Why are you being deliberately obtuse? No one is saying it’s wrong to ever ask a question. They’re answering that question - the answer being that yes, the OP is being unreasonable.

easylikeasundaymorn · 14/10/2024 19:14

ThornVampire · 14/10/2024 18:51

So you are a common thief then?

out of interest what would it take to be an "uncommon" thief?

I do agree that it's technically stealing but I'm also slightly amused at the idea so many posters seem to have that the minimum waged, understaffed and probably completely overrun (not to mention potentially hungover) 20 year old students that constitute pizza hut staff are going to be prowling the tables or zooming in on the buffet via cctv, cross-referencing faces to the orders made, ready to dash over and confront anyone who absently chews on their child's abandoned crust, rather than not giving a single fuck and not wanting the aggro of arguing with you even if they do see you eating half a slice.

Yes there's a potential there might be an over zealous manager who would notice if someone who hadn't paid got up and filled a whole plate when they'd just ordered a water, but if 3 kids had the buffet and then 3 mums just ordered one pizza to share between them, realistically they aren't going to come round forensically examining your plates to exclaim triumphantly 'Ha! You ordered a hawaiian but that's clearly a discarded mushroom, you've obviously eaten the left over half a slice of pizza your child took from the buffet, that's an extra £15.99, cough up or I'll call the police and you'll be deported to the colonies before you can say 'thin and crispy.'

No, scanning 2 birthday/Christmas etc cards through as one as one is too light to register on the self scan

May be steeling but certainly not stealing.

And you might be a thief but certainty not a theif. Those pesky vowels can catch the best of us out.
