Pizza Hut Buffet

IAKnowyou · 14/10/2024 17:46

Posting here to hopefully get some quick answers.

So I will be going to Pizza Hut for the buffet, at the weekend with my child for one of her friend's parties.
There's a few of us going, and I've had a look online and at weekends it is 15.99 per adult and 10.99 for children !
I am absolutely not going to eat 15.99 worth of pizza! And I doubt my child will eat £11 worth.
Would I be unreasonable to just pay for my child and maybe have a slice of pizza or 2?
I know they charge different per head to stop this. But how do they police this ??
It's not a huge deal, but I would definitely like to know before I go, and like to know if other people do this or not ?
Thanks !

out of interest what would it take to be an "uncommon" thief?

I do agree that it's technically stealing but I'm also slightly amused at the idea so many posters seem to have that the minimum waged, understaffed and probably completely overrun (not to mention potentially hungover) 20 year old students that constitute pizza hut staff are going to be prowling the tables or zooming in on the buffet via cctv, cross-referencing faces to the orders made, ready to dash over and confront anyone who absently chews on their child's abandoned crust, rather than not giving a single fuck and not wanting the aggro of arguing with you even if they do see you eating half a slice.

Yes there's a potential there might be an over zealous manager who would notice if someone who hadn't paid got up and filled a whole plate when they'd just ordered a water, but if 3 kids had the buffet and then 3 mums just ordered one pizza to share between them, realistically they aren't going to come round forensically examining your plates to exclaim triumphantly 'Ha! You ordered a hawaiian but that's clearly a discarded mushroom, you've obviously eaten the left over half a slice of pizza your child took from the buffet, that's an extra £15.99, cough up or I'll call the police and you'll be deported to the colonies before you can say 'thin and crispy.'

@easylikeasundaymorn , but you agree stealing is still wrong, even if you think in the circumstances you will probably get away with it? Yes?

I have a genuine question.

So, I get that deliberately going to Pizza Hut with the intention of not paying for your own and eating slices of pizza of your child's plate is morally questionable.

However, my question is, if for example OP ordered nothing for herself and just a buffet for her child, and at the end of the meal her child said to her: "mum I've put too many slices of pizza on my plate - I can't eat them all, I'm full". Is it then OK for OP to eat the remaining pizza slices that would be otherwise destined for the bin? Or would that be equally "stealing" and OP should let it be put in the bin? Just curious ...

I think the answer would be that I should not dare look at said (about to be wasted) pizza. And I should be the one getting in the bin instead.
(But yes I'm also intrigued to know the answer to this one!)

Yeah it's a total rip off op. Unless you're a massive bloke who eats like a horse you're unlikely to get your moneys worth.

£15.99 is a massive rip off for pizza, salad, pasta choices, unlimited fizzy and ice cream?

McDonald meals are upwards of £7 now for takeaway

KittyPup · 14/10/2024 17:48

No you can’t pay for a child and then eat a few slices of their pizza. You clearly can’t afford to eat out. Don’t embarrass yourself as you’ll get caught out. Take them to McDonalds for a happy meal instead.

Rude

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 14/10/2024 19:21

I think everyone on the table would have to have the buffet or not, and you will be charged accordingly.

They're pointing out why this is stealing.

Stealing 😂😂😂😂

as your username suggests …. Odd.

dreamer24 · 14/10/2024 19:22

@IAKnowyou
I'm also curious. And if the answer is it's OK if the child has put too much on their plate and is full and therefore the food is otherwise to be wasted, then it might just be a question of timing as to when it's acceptable to eat said remaining pizza 😂

I wouldn't allow DD to pile up her plate with pizza knowing she would likely eat only 1 or 2 slices. I'd tell her she can go back for more if she's still hungry.

But then I wouldn't be sitting there in hopes she piled up her plate with pizza so I could then eat some and not pay for my own pizza.

May be steeling but certainly not stealing.

YANBU to think the pricing is outrageous - over £30 for two of you to have a few slices of pizza and croutons.

As PPs suggest just order pizza off the menu. I got a medium sized pizza for DC and a coffee for myself. Nobody seemed to mind that I ate one of the slices - maybe because it had been paid for and I wasn't just helping my self to free extras.

Prices are ridiculous.

I think you tell your child not to overfill their plate to start with. 🫣

I've just had surgery and laughing hurts, I am absolutely cursing you for this:

Of course it’s fine to order a pizza and have a slice of it. Totally different concept to all you can eat

dreamer24 · 14/10/2024 19:28

@zeitweilig
Oh of course! But with the best will in the world, sometimes my 3 year old says she wants something then she doesn't 5 seconds later. That could simply be just one slice of pizza in her case 😂

So, my question was, in the situation where you have done all within your power to encourage portion control by your children, if they still leave some pizza..... what's the right thing to do? Is eating it off their plates before the waitress puts it in the bin, stealing? I'm just curious about people's views on that.

For those asking what they’d do if you ate child’s leftovers; DH once got charged for eating DC leftover ice cream from the ice cream factory thing in Pizza Hut. So yes they may well notice, and yes they will charge you for it if they do.

Coconutter24 · 14/10/2024 19:30

I had an email the other day kids eat free between 14th oct and 5th nov so pay for you and the child is free

You limit the child to one slice at a time then. OP is clearly planning to have the child take more than knows the child will/can eat.

No, scanning 2 birthday/Christmas etc cards through as one as one is too light to register on the self scan

Thank you for explaining.

Edit - I don’t want to say my thoughts about this as you were kind enough to explain

😱 Did he go back and top it up? Or did he literally just eat a child's ice cream that was already paid for sitting on the table? I'm aghast that they charged you again if it was the latter!
