Pizza Hut Buffet

IAKnowyou · 14/10/2024 17:46

Posting here to hopefully get some quick answers.

So I will be going to Pizza Hut for the buffet, at the weekend with my child for one of her friend's parties.
There's a few of us going, and I've had a look online and at weekends it is 15.99 per adult and 10.99 for children !
I am absolutely not going to eat 15.99 worth of pizza! And I doubt my child will eat £11 worth.
Would I be unreasonable to just pay for my child and maybe have a slice of pizza or 2?
I know they charge different per head to stop this. But how do they police this ??
It's not a huge deal, but I would definitely like to know before I go, and like to know if other people do this or not ?
Thanks !

@easylikeasundaymorn , but you agree stealing is still wrong, even if you think in the circumstances you will probably get away with it? Yes?

Yes stealing is "wrong". duh.
but so are lots of things, both morally and/or legally that I'm sure lots of people do :
using the disabled toilet because there's a queue for the ladies
driving 1 mile over the speed limit
telling a white lie that you didn't eat the last biscuit or you'd love to come to x event but unfortunately you've got something else on that day
saying sorry I don't have change to the charity chugger or big issue seller when you do
logging into work and then making yourself a coffee rather than doing it beforehand
all technically "wrong" but in my mind in the same league as "stealing" half a slice of pizza from a huge multinational corporation.
realistically who cares?

😱 Did he go back and top it up? Or did he literally just eat a child's ice cream that was already paid for sitting on the table? I'm aghast that they charged you again if it was the latter!

He literally ate the leftover melted ice cream. I think we were too amused to say anything at the time!

StormingNorman · 14/10/2024 19:34

I’m so embarrassed for you that you don’t understand why you can’t do this.

IAKnowyou · 14/10/2024 19:34

@zeitweilig no I am not planning to "have my child get more than she will eat!" I'd have taken a slice straight from the buffet for my own plate thank you 😂
Well, that was before I knew I'd be marched out of the joint and be stoned to death for it

You've got a brass neck OP.

Combattingthemoaners · 14/10/2024 19:37

Even if you went to a cheap pub for dinner you’d pay about the same. I don’t think it’s that bad to be honest. There is a good salad bar and you used to get drinks included. Haven’t been for years though.

makemeanoffericantrefuse · 14/10/2024 19:37

Sorry! Dropped phone mid post 🙄

Newcarforchristmas · 14/10/2024 19:37

I haven’t read through the whole thread as it seems a bit wild 😂but in case it’s not been suggested you could always pay for her buffet (annoying as she probably won’t eat the amount you’d be paying for but nice for her as all her friends would be doing the same at the party) and then just order yourself a normal pizza, because then whatever you don’t finish you can take home in a to go box and eat later/the next day.
Personally I really prefer pizza the next day, especially cold, anyway!
I know it doesn’t stop you spending that amount but at least you get the amount of pizza you pay for!

People just having a bit of someone else’s is the reason Nando’s give different glasses for water now. And yes, I have seen them make people pay for a refill drink when they go and fill up their water glass with coke.

It gets worse.
What makes you think you can access something you've not paid for yourself to access, exactly?
You've paid for your daughter to access the buffet, not you. 🫣🫣🫣

It's super tacky and theft.
I would be embarrassed to sit at a table where someone was doing this. But you do you lol

Mummysaf · 14/10/2024 19:41

easylikeasundaymorn · 14/10/2024 19:14

out of interest what would it take to be an "uncommon" thief?

I do agree that it's technically stealing but I'm also slightly amused at the idea so many posters seem to have that the minimum waged, understaffed and probably completely overrun (not to mention potentially hungover) 20 year old students that constitute pizza hut staff are going to be prowling the tables or zooming in on the buffet via cctv, cross-referencing faces to the orders made, ready to dash over and confront anyone who absently chews on their child's abandoned crust, rather than not giving a single fuck and not wanting the aggro of arguing with you even if they do see you eating half a slice.

Yes there's a potential there might be an over zealous manager who would notice if someone who hadn't paid got up and filled a whole plate when they'd just ordered a water, but if 3 kids had the buffet and then 3 mums just ordered one pizza to share between them, realistically they aren't going to come round forensically examining your plates to exclaim triumphantly 'Ha! You ordered a hawaiian but that's clearly a discarded mushroom, you've obviously eaten the left over half a slice of pizza your child took from the buffet, that's an extra £15.99, cough up or I'll call the police and you'll be deported to the colonies before you can say 'thin and crispy.'

😂😂😂

Badgerbadgerduck · 14/10/2024 19:42

I’d say don’t do it. Not because you're ‘stealing’ - massive chains are fair game imo. But as the daughter of exactly the type of miserable git that does stuff like this, I know if you do get pulled up on it your poor daughter will be sat there wanting the earth to swallow her whole and it’s not worth potentially ruining a fun day out for your daughter just to save £15

Plainer · 14/10/2024 19:44

IAKnowyou · 14/10/2024 18:05

I have a feeling if I'm being attacked enough for asking a question like this.. that someone will be sure to tell me it's absolutely not acceptable to take home buffet food 😆

Are you kidding me? You asked about trying to get away with eating stealth Pizza Hut buffet on AIBU, and you think you've been attacked enough??

It's barely 7.30 p.m. on Day One. Do the decent thing and stick around for another 3 days of being told what a cheap, tacky, thieving CF you are (at best). I'm not sure if you've already been told what a poor example of a parent you are. Maybe that's Day Two. By Day Three, it will have come full circle, and there'll be hardcore support for buffet fiddling, with outbreaks of 'THIEF!' every tenth post.

Honestly. "Been attacked enough" indeed.

Tink3rbell30 · 14/10/2024 19:44

So if the child doesn't eat all of the pizza slices she picked up despite trying to tell her not to take too many.. can OP eat the spare slice or will she be criminally charged?

makemeanoffericantrefuse · 14/10/2024 19:44

Massive chains are fair game?

Why?

So when they put their prices up further or go bust that's ok?

How do you know my daughter isn't in on my devious , criminally mastermind plan???

Ps. I had a godawful mother.. this is absolutely nothing to be concerned about in the grand scheme of things.

Have you spent much time with the other mums. I couldn't imagine going out with someone and them doing this. I wouldn't be going out with them again
