To report this car?

I live in an awkward shaped street. One of my neighbours is very selfish with her driving/parking. She flies round the corners when coming and going and just abandons her car across the pavement. There would be enough parking for everyone if she parked properly but she often takes up a couple of spaces due to the silly ways she leaves her car.

Anyway, this car has now been without a valid MOT for a week. She drives around with her young son in it all of the time.

AIBU to report her car for having no MOT with the hope that she'll get a fine and maybe decide to shape up a little bit?
I don't want to cause issues for myself as I live alone and she's quite the nuisance as it is so I don't want to give the police my details but also don't think crime stoppers would be much use.

I reported a car to Crimestoppers and it got sorted out.

StormingNorman · 02/10/2024 21:41

How do you know she doesn’t have an MOT? I thought you could only find out if you checked online.

essenrjal · 02/10/2024 21:42

Yes I have checked online and it has already expired.

Its really none of your business and you do t care about her son, that’s your excuse for making yourself feel better about reporting her.

Just go and speak to her.

Can’t stand a grass.

MonsteraMama · 02/10/2024 21:45

Wow. Haven't you got anything better to do than look up the MOT records of your neighbours? Fuck me. I thought my neighbour was a curtain twitcher.

Have you considered asking her to park more courteously?

essenrjal · 02/10/2024 21:47

Yes we have all asked her, she isn't someone to happily take advice.

I do care about her son actually, I know there is an on going issue regarding her care for him so this is yet another example of her putting him in danger.

Yes I have checked online and it has already expired.

Have you considered having a conversation like an adult?

essenrjal · 02/10/2024 21:48

Yes and like stated above, she is not someone who likes to be asked to sort something out.

Can't stand anyone who uses the term "grass" myself but hey ho. OP you know you are right to report her so go ahead and you can report anonymously if that helps. As usually the numpties will appear to tell you you're wrong and the person breaking the law and being a tit is somehow entitled to do so. Tells us a lot about those people if they need to be that defensive Wink

Falseshamrok · 02/10/2024 21:48

Fucking hell the replies so far 😂

report her, I would.

That’s because you’re a grass too 🤣

@StormingNorman and proud of it all day long Grin

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 02/10/2024 21:51

Just report online. End of.

essenrjal · 02/10/2024 21:51

I agree, I'd much rather be a "grass" and know there is one less irresponsible driver on the road in a potentially unroadworthy car than to sit back and do nothing.

I'm sure some of the people on this thread would be the first to cry if it was one of their family members hit by an irresponsible driver.

Report her. Can't believe the replies. Her insurance is invalid.

The thing is she's probably not aware it's run out of MOT and secondly just because the car is out of MOT for a week it's not any more or less of a dangerous death trap than it was last week. It's a week not years. Just put a note on her car if you don't want to actually speak to her asking to park with more consideration and just say it ran out of MOT on such and such I don't want you getting done by the police. Two birds.

Saltedbutter · 02/10/2024 22:09

I don’t think cars are safe for 52 weeks and then start to disintegrate at 52 weeks and 1 day. I think you trying to disguise this as any concern for her son’s safety is daft.
She irritates you/you dislike her and you want to cause she for her - so just do it.
Personally I can’t imagine having the inclination to check a neighbours car for their MOT status.

Oh my!

saraclara · 02/10/2024 22:16

For goodness sake. A car doesn't turn into a death trap five minutes after the MOT expires.

MOTs are easy to forget. You don't get an automatic reminder like you do with tax or insurance.

You don't like this person and you're just looking for justification to get her into trouble. The police won't care. They'll just tell her to not drive until she has to drive to the garage for the test, and to do it pronto.

Patienceinshortsupply · 02/10/2024 22:19

Report it. If her car hits someone she won't be insured.

I'm sure all of the posters above will be fine if it's their cars..........

JohnofWessex · 02/10/2024 22:23

So...

Somebody behaves like an idiot with a car.

Guess what when its realised the car has no MOT they get reported because people they have upset now have an easy target.

The moral is that if you are going to be a twat dont give your enemies an easy target

NotTerfNorCis · 02/10/2024 22:23

Yes report her, she needs shaking up.

SwanRivers · 02/10/2024 22:27

Seriously? 🤣🤣

twistnslide · 02/10/2024 22:46

Google 'report a car without an MOT' there is a page to do this on. It probably does not ask for your details but make some up if asked.
