To report this car?

I live in an awkward shaped street. One of my neighbours is very selfish with her driving/parking. She flies round the corners when coming and going and just abandons her car across the pavement. There would be enough parking for everyone if she parked properly but she often takes up a couple of spaces due to the silly ways she leaves her car.

Anyway, this car has now been without a valid MOT for a week. She drives around with her young son in it all of the time.

AIBU to report her car for having no MOT with the hope that she'll get a fine and maybe decide to shape up a little bit?
I don't want to cause issues for myself as I live alone and she's quite the nuisance as it is so I don't want to give the police my details but also don't think crime stoppers would be much use.

Report her if you like...it won't have any impact on her parking though. The two things are unrelated.

Its really none of your business and you do t care about her son, that’s your excuse for making yourself feel better about reporting her.

Just go and speak to her.

Can’t stand a grass.

If it takes a careless driver off the road, fuck "being a grass", hopefully we're all older than 12, and not auditioning for EastEnders

Do they take the car away if no MOT?

At the very least there should be a fine

It won't take her off the road. The police won't care. They'll just tell her to get it sorted, if they respond at all.

Report her. Can't believe the replies. Her insurance is invalid.

It would pay out third party claims.
No MOT is non endorsable and a relatively low fine, so the police are more likely to have a chat than prosecute.

And when that persons potentially dangerous car damages yours or killed a loved one? Would you think op was a grass then?

No MOT can invalidate your insurance. Having no insurance is a crime. It wouldn't pay out 3rd party claims.

Car can also be seized.

No. You get a certain amount of time to sort it and £100 fine. I was caught with an overdue MOT by a police spot check once (was a genuine oversight) and that's what happened to me. The car was not taken off the road. Got the MOT, paid the fine, all a-ok.

This is a neighbour dispute over parking. Calm down with the catastrophising.

I’d definitely report her. No MOT means no valid insurance so if her careless driving causes an accident then there’s no insurance to cover it.

I once reported a bus driver for flying round the corner near mine while on his phone.

I also have been reported for not having an MOT on a broken down campervan which was parked outside a house which unbeknownst to me had a dying man living (dying) inside the front room and didn't want his last view to be of my van.

What I'm trying to say is... do what you want.

Ringpeace · 03/10/2024 00:00

One of our former neighbours had two cars and a minibus parked on our very narrow road, none of which had an MOT or insurance, for over a year. The bus was used as some sort of group transport for his church. It was in no way roadworthy and often parked right in front of my window for weeks on end. I reported them and one fine day the whole lot got towed away.

Copperoliverbear · 03/10/2024 00:24

Report her to police, social services and Dvla x

It’s not catastrophising when you work in the motor trade and see some shocking cars that really shouldn’t be on the road

twomanyfrogsinabox · 03/10/2024 09:39

Report her, if she has no MOT her insurance is invalid (if she has any) so if she's in an accident it will cause her and other people all sorts of problems.

"can't stand a grass" 😫

Unless you're a gangster running some underground criminal enterprise, or you're a 14-year old smoking in the school toilets this statement is cringe AF.
Grow up

TheTigerWhoCameToEatMyArsehole · 03/10/2024 09:55

People on here do realise just because your car passed a mot yesterday doesn't mean your car is safe today. What about new cars they don't have mots for the first 3 years but doesn't mean they don't break or things don't wear.

twomanyfrogsinabox · 03/10/2024 10:03

Londonrach1 · 02/10/2024 21:52

Apparently the insurance 'might' be valid, if the car is roadworthy, but many insurance companies require an MOT for the insurance to be valid, so if you think you are OK driving without an MOT check your insurance documents. And if the car is not roadworthy the insurance isn't valid, so if you are avoiding the MOT because you know the car needs work you almost certainly do not have valid insurance.
