Child identifies as a wolf ... WTF?

Portakalkedi · 27/09/2024 12:15

Just on Radio 4 now, discussing a child in secondary school who identifies as a wolf, and the school is going along with this. AIBU to think the world (or at least the UK) has gone mad? If said child is living in the woods, catching its own prey etc etc, howling and running with other wolves, which I doubt, then why the hell is anyone going along with it? They are also saying that some others identify as dogs or cats etc. And here was me thinking men 'identifying' as women was bad.

Years ago I watched a documentary about an older man(I think he identified as a lizard?) Full body and face tattooing, I believe the implants to look like he had small horns as well. Moved himself off to the middle of nowhere and lived in a cave for years. Don't know what became of him and this was a long time ago, well before the men are women and everyone is everything movement. These nutters have been out here for years, now it's just fashionable to be one instead of pitiful and sad

I’m sure they always existed but they didn’t have the spaces online we now have to come together and normalise it for each other and then influence vulnerable children who feel lost or out of place.

Take his/hers/they/ them or whatevers, red cloak & hood away & tell them the woods are out of bounds.

God, I don't know how you stand it! Back in ye olden days, I was a creator on Second Life. It was full of virtual furries, being disgusting to the point they'd be rapists in real life (you couldn't rape an avatar in SL, for clarity. It was the way they talked.) At first I didn't get why there were so many squirrels and cats flying around, I found it funny. They did NOT like being laughed at.

That made me laugh! I didn't think I'd ever see Second Life mentioned on mumsnet.😂They are still just as disgusting across the meta quest VR rooms (which I see plenty of children/teens have access to🤔(!).

But yes, I'd like to think i'm quite desensitised (grew up with unrestricted internet access), but some of the requests I get still shock me.

If someone genuinely believed they were a cat, and wanted to live "as a cat":

  1. they'd be on 4 legs all the time
  2. they'd be an obligate carnivore and only eat meat
  3. they'd spend 22 hours a day asleep
  4. they'd be up trees etc
  5. they wouldn't be able to use their thumbs so no phone, TV, cloths (cos buttons and zips).

They would be pretty obvious in society. They aren't there. I think it wouldn't take long for a bipedal ape pretending to be a cat to get injured, sick or bored of the lifestyle.

This is what I mean. There is a difference between "logically it's the same" and "in reality people identify as cats". In reality people don't identify as cats in any meaningful way and it's about as relevant as them believing in God. Meh.

Not all furries believe in being full on a cat. Many to most believe they are a kinda half cat half human mix. That they can still walk and talk but.....they are a "cat" . Very much like many popular anine shows and world wide cartoons. Think good old teenage mutant ninja turtles where characters are mostly human but have outward animal appearance and some animal characteristics... often say licking/ grooming themselves and others ( "sexy" characteristic often more than others). Only know some of a this from the horrors iv seen, heard and experienced at comicons and sometimes worse at smaller anime cons with my daughters over the years ..... then down some rabbit holes to try keep them away. Seen stalls with furry porn and alsorts. kids, tweens and adults all dressed as whatever hybrid human mix they believe they are meeting up, mingling together and on occasions taking photos of each other....sometimes very questionable poses and what they might be saving them for later. But some of teens are also into believing they are this hybrid animal human with some animal traits and characteristics...and they follow each other and " influences" who also believe they are part animal part human

Pretty convenient being part human, funny that.

I fucking despair, honestly, why have adults lost the ability to tell children NO? We already have a generation of spoiled, idle and indulged brats as a result of 'gentle' (ie lazy) parenting.

I'm only guessing but I think teachers probably bloody despise it but are told to put up with it for some kind of legal reasons, or something.

Btw I don't think it's all gentle parenting. I think there's a culture a lot of cities in particular have where getting good grades is everything so there's no other skills of any other kind ever built (as they either aren't valued because they aren't academic and lead to a grade, or there's too much crime or traffic or whatever the reason). Stuff like compulsory volunteering would help I reckon.

Honeysucklelane · 02/10/2024 16:46

I identify as a premature retiree, with a toned size 12 body, stylish clothes and a group of great friends to meet up with for spa breaks and lunches. I have a healthy pension and love not having to work……😂no one else is going along with this identity though

An academy is still a school?

It is aside from funding from different authorities. It was a joke, a play on words, I know how to spell Academy, I wrote aCATemy, because alupinemy doesn't quite work and yes I know a wolf isn't a cat, but a bit of poetic license doesn't go amiss does it.

I can understand identifying with an animal, but not as an animal; and if you do identify strongly with an animal, I don't think external validation is necessary.

If the schools are actually happy to indulge this kid in this idiocy then education is truly doomed.

browserintobuyer · 04/10/2024 12:35

For goodness sake - nobody can think they're a wolf, FFS! anymore than a bloke in a dress and a wig actually truly believes he's a woman. All these narcissists want is for the rest of us to say that we think they are..

How can this be allowed in schools? No wonder so many people are voting for The Reform Party. They're the only ones speaking out against this s**t..

What posts are you referring to when you talk about 'nasty human beings' ?

The original post and all those jumping in afterward. Conflating children identifying as animals with trans people. The transphobia on Mumsnet is absolutely unreal.

Errors · 05/10/2024 18:50

If someone identified as a spider, and someone else came along and flattened and killed them, would they be done for murder

People are making a connection between kids 'identifying' as one thing that they biologically are not (a wolf) and another (the opposite sex).

That's a clear parallel. Why is it nasty?

I am really not sure how to explain to you why it’s nasty to spend so much time and energy on an Internet forum handwringing and mocking a tiny percent of the population who are just trying to live their lives. Is there really nothing else to be outraged about? Just trans people and kids who are claiming to be wolves? Honestly, get a life.

I don't think this is an accurate reflection of what's going on though.

No one is mocking anyone.

I have no issue with how anyone wants to present themselves, but I'm not going to affirm someone's belief that is obviously false.

And I do not accept that there is anything 'nasty' or 'hateful' about this. Ultimately reality matters.

cuddlebear · 05/10/2024 21:24

This really isn’t new and I don’t connect it with trans people at all.

I am 60 and went to college with a boy who identified as a wolf. A werewolf more specifically. I also spent a year between ages 5-6 as a dog. I scampered around on all fours. Had a lovely time.

Can we not live and let live without making everything about the trans debate?

TheKeatingFive · 05/10/2024 21:25

And, incase you are so totally obtuse that you can't see this, men pretending to be women and demanding access to their spaces is problematic for vulnerable women.

Affirming a child's feeling that there's something wrong with them because they don't align with gender stereotypes is disgraceful. Telling them that they are born 'in the wrong body' is an act of abuse.

sarahzbaker · 06/10/2024 01:22

Ridiculous nonsense - as is men in women's athletic or swimming. Just cheats

Isn't everybody, besides the OP with their original post "jumping in afterwards"?

I've no problem with "transpeople", those being: real people experiencing genuine life effecting trauma about their sex. I believe they need psychiatric help.

I do though object profoundly to spiteful, misogynist activist-types, that for example, love nothing more than intimidating women & girls by posting selfies of themselves on social media squawking in celebration that they've made their way into a women only space.

People are free to identify with/ as whatever they like: wolf, cat, dog turd, opposite sex or Salad Nicoise for all I care, but please, don't try to force me to participate and keep it out of schools....

No one needs you to affirm anything. No one cares what you think about their identity. You’re making it your business, when it’s not.
