Child identifies as a wolf ... WTF?

Portakalkedi · 27/09/2024 12:15

Just on Radio 4 now, discussing a child in secondary school who identifies as a wolf, and the school is going along with this. AIBU to think the world (or at least the UK) has gone mad? If said child is living in the woods, catching its own prey etc etc, howling and running with other wolves, which I doubt, then why the hell is anyone going along with it? They are also saying that some others identify as dogs or cats etc. And here was me thinking men 'identifying' as women was bad.

Can someone please pull the brakes on this crazy world so I can get off absolute madness 😠

My son told me, when he was 5, that he wanted to be 'a pelican' when he grew up. I laughed and told DH.

We did not immediately start treating him like a pelican, but it seems that 16 years from that hilarious moment, other idiotic parents would be doing precisely that.

The earth is doomed.

Talkinpeace · 27/09/2024 17:44

Adults have fallen for what one of the speakers described as
supportive parenting and teaching
rather than
boundaries

"I think I'm a girl"
That's nice, where is your homework ?
has turned into
"oh my goodness we must affirm this temporary identity and trap you in it"

which is doing MASSIVE harm to the mental health of the young
and the safety of women and girls

No of course not but people got very heated on the thread defending children's rights to be whoever and now we're told (probably by the same posters who were shouting people down on that thread) that it's all made up & not happening. 🤷‍♂️

OK, fair enough.
I have looked for evidence before that this is happening and not found any. What I did find was a lot of evidence that it's being used by certain political and religious movements to push distrust of "lefties" and undermine LGB rights.

If you choose to believe it is true based on Internet anecdote that's up to you. I prefer to wait until there is some evidence of it.

Talkinpeace · 27/09/2024 17:55

The whole programme (and series) is worth a listen

Ginganinja123 · 27/09/2024 17:57

you were being perfectly reasonable until your last sentence

HoneyButterPopcorn · 27/09/2024 17:59

My sister taught in California for many years - from the stories she has told me, nothing would surprise me. She was saying recently there was a local school (to her in the US) that had some sort of 'animal'student.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 27/09/2024 18:00

I identify as a millionaire and everyone needs to validate me and treat me as the millionaire that I am

Or fucking not

Alectoishome · 27/09/2024 18:01

When I was at secondary there were girls overly enamoured with the TV series Buffy and were scarily intense over being vampires and were genuinely sucking each others blood etc.
The difference today is that the parents enable it whereas parents back then just laughed, told them they'd grow out of it, made jokes about dracula and put a stop to any silliness getting out of hand. The school had zero tolerance about it of course. I feel so sorry for children today, it's like there are no proper adults.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 27/09/2024 18:02

DS used to identify as a police dog (yes that specific) and he'd bark (we'd have conversations 'in dog'). But this was when her was 2 (before her was at nursery. I didn't give him bob martins and a flea bath though.

I worked in a place with a nursery and one day one of the little boys was marching about with a teddy bear shoved up his jumper yelling 'I've got a baby in my tummy!!!!!!'. The staff just said 'that's nice X, come alone it's back time...'

It's call imagination...

I am a "leftie", I support LGB rights and I am an atheist.

I believe that exactly this kind of thing is happening. Although I too think the litter trays in school are hyperbole.

Surely the very fact that a guest on radio 4 is speaking out in support of children identifying as furries shows that it's likely that it's happening?

I am not saying any of this to undermine myself or the people and things that I support.

It's a fad. It'll pass. Pick your battles.

I have picked my battle 👍

Children who come to believe that they have a gender or species identity that is separate from their body are at risk of the medical scandal that we will see unfold very publicly over the next decade and more.

Unfortunately thousands of children and young adults have gone on to a pathway of irreversible physical harm, many of whom are autistic, looked after or vulnerable in other ways. Sadly, many adults saw it as harmless when they first entered this affirmation pathway, either thinking they would grow out of it or that it really was their true authentic self.

The battle I have chosen is to push back against it and do what I can to help safeguard children. Lots of other people have also chosen this battle.

Hmm. I think it's one thing for a primary aged student to play around with this idea, wear cat ears etc, but when they're a teen with access to the internet I would shut it down immediately.

I am a well known digital artist, a ridiculous portion of my income comes from Furries (i know...). Teenagers should absolutely 100% not be involved with this community. Without going into detail it is extremely depraved. I would be reporting any teen to a safeguarding lead if they mentioned being a furry.

Exactly

Badgerandfox227 · 27/09/2024 12:25

I’ve heard that their are children at our local secondary identifying as a cat, they wear ears and a tail and go to the loo on the grass.

It's always "I've heard" isn't it...

Alectoishome · 27/09/2024 18:35

Two years ago while driving up to Inverness, DH got too tired to make it to our planned stop so we parked our motorhome in a forestry commission car park so he could have a sleep. I woke him an hour later as I was so worried about the noises I could hear. Dh listens and reckons its bucks or stags. I said it definitely wasn't. He goes out to have a look despite my begging him not to. Comes back in a hurry and said there were four people in the bushes a little way off getting up to all sorts in furry suits with animal masks. We couldn't get out there fast enough! We laughed about it but I didn't find it funny really, it made me feel sick.

WoodforTrees · 27/09/2024 18:39

ObliviousCoalmine · 27/09/2024 18:29

It's always "I've heard" isn't it...

And it will be until you encounter it yourself. Like any emerging madness, it's niche untill it isn't.

People had 'heard' about kids that thought Andrew Tate was the next best thing - it was all just a rumour till it was their son spouting his misogynistic drivel.

I'd 'heard' and then my very non-gossipy make neighbour told me the story that I've posted above. And if it carries on unchecked, no doubt I will come across it in due course. And so will you.

I hope the child is receiving help with their mental health.
Seriously doubt it. Probably a two year waiting list.

I agree.

Your comment may get removed though, mine did when it was a they/them mentalness.

Actual audio of a child being reprimanded for failing to respect another child's 'cat identity'.

Is this where we move from "it's not happening" to "well, if it is it's not often"?

I can't remember the words but I think you'll know the one I mean?

Obviously having an actual recording does somewhat force us on from the first stage 😁

ArabellaScott · 27/09/2024 18:55

The narcissists prayer?

'That didn't happen.
And if it did, it wasn't that bad.
And if it was, that's not a big deal.
And if it is, that's not my fault.
And if it was, I didn't mean it.
And if I did, you deserved it.'

Why have you conflated gender identity (where I agree there is a medical scandal) with species identity (where there doesn't appear to be)? Who do you believe is behind the "species identity" brewing scandal and why? Who are you thinking children need safeguarding from in this potential "species identity scandal" and how do you propose that happens?

Safxxx · 27/09/2024 19:02

Imagine at play time....they're playing what's the time Mr.Wolf?
and he eats them for dinner 🤣🤣🤣 I'm sorry but all these nonsense of identity is just going too far, other day I saw a reel on Instagram a grown man dressed as a turtle crossing the road, hold the traffic as he was going very slowly 😩

Ok you don't believe it's happening.
You can believe that all you like but I can tell you it is and I know kids who are doing it.

But, no, it's not happening. 🙄

Because gender identity and species identity are both ideologies which should not be given credence. We have seen now where encouraging gender identity is leading - mermaids/stonewall/puberty blockers/surgery on children/mental heath issues - and what's to say that encouraging children to identify as an animal won't have similarly devastated consequences?

Just because you can't go on a waiting list for a 'tail' now, doesn't mean that a child won't self-harm or become clinically depressed (or worse) because they are being denied the tail they think they need to be 'whole'. I mean, yes that's extreme but SO IS CUTTING OFF YOUR WILLY AND THAT HAPPENS

https://www.lbc.co.uk/news/teacher-despicable-student-classmate-cat/

There's no audio there. It's here.

www.google.com/amp/s/www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12209919/amp/Full-audio-Student-rejected-classmates-claim-shes-CAT-scolded-teacher.html

The audio also doesn't appear to suggest that any student actually identified as a cat - despite what the DM says. It appears to be a row about children suggesting trans people are mentally ill.

The school said they have no children identifying as animals.

https://www.theargus.co.uk/news/23609491.rye-college-denies-pupils-identify-animals-cat-gender-row/

The school was subject to an OFSTED but as far as I can tell nothing further happened - suggesting a social media click bait frenzy rather than any actual child identifying as an animal.

It really doesn't help move sex based rights forward if people are promoting dubious "facts" like this. It makes women with concerns look a bit silly.

School denies pupils identify as animals after government investigation

A Sussex school at the centre of a self-identity row has said none of its pupils “identify as a cat or any other animal”.
