To be furious with neighbours

I was recently away for the weekend and left my car parked at home.

Came back early this week and noticed mud loads of muck and grass outside their house (they dont own a car so that space is empty and mine is directly beside theirs) and mud all over their fence from what looks like brushing/spraying from cleaning the footpath and their garden.

The mud was sprayed all over my car bonnet and windscreen - it was absolutely filthy.

I came across my neighbour as she was leaving yesterday and asked her was she cleaning outside as it made a lot of mess and its made my car filthy.

She just laughed and said "sure the rain will wash it off, sorry".

In fact, the rain did not "wash it off" and I spent £15 having to get the car cleaned.

I am furious. If I did this I would at least offer to pay for the car wash and not laugh off spraying dirt on someone's car.

AIBU to be pissed at this?

What would be the point of covering g your car in mud and then offering to pay for it to be cleaned?

Cherrysoup · 11/09/2024 19:36

I mean, I’d be cross, but I’d have dragged the hose through the house and rinsed it. She’s a bit of a cow to laugh and say that, tho. She should have offered to clean it. Not sure why you paid?

Mooneywoo · 11/09/2024 19:36

Furious is a bit over the top really.

SoTired12 · 11/09/2024 19:40

Did you take a photo?

Carrotmccarrotface · 11/09/2024 19:41

I think you need to learn to relax. It’s no big deal.

K0OLA1D · 11/09/2024 19:42

YABU to be 'furious' over it. Bit of an ott reaction really.

user1473878824 · 11/09/2024 19:43

Honestly it’s annoying but I absolutely could not care this much about it.

SabbatWheel · 11/09/2024 19:44

I would be livid at this too, YANBU.

Wineandcupcakes · 11/09/2024 19:45

I can imagine being marginally annoyed but I’d not be ott like you’re feeling over some dirt on my car.

bloss0mgirl · 11/09/2024 19:47

Her comment to you suggests if she was posting here about you her post from you about you would read VERY differently.

It's probably quite hard work living next door to the furious lady reaction, and it sounds like your relationship probably deteriorated some time ago over other small things.

Be nice, life is hard for absolutely everyone, and really amazing if you ease up.

Sidebeforeself · 11/09/2024 19:48

It cant have been that filthy if you could drive it to get it cleaned?

HeliotropePJs · 11/09/2024 19:52

Some people don't have any respect for others' property and belongings. She should have apologised, at the least. I'd find the flippant response infuriating.

And no, life isn't magically lovelier just because you resign yourself to being walked all over by rude, feckless neighbours.

Janeir0 · 11/09/2024 19:54

Furious though?

Attheendoftheday86 · 11/09/2024 19:55

Of course it's thoughtless and unneighbourly. Some people take pride in their car's appearance (I'm not one of them but can understand), I'm not sure why posters are giving you such a hard time for being upset at the situation.

Alittlebitfluffy · 11/09/2024 19:57

Bit over the top, why did you need to get it cleaned professionally? Surely a quick rinse at home would have done it? Doubt you were expecting her to pay for it to be professionally cleaned surely?! Mud does just wash off!

MzPixie · 11/09/2024 19:57

I wouldn't be happy but I would just deal with it and sort it awful of her to laugh though

CraverSpud · 11/09/2024 19:58

If it were me-
On Christmas eve, call around with some mince pies but accidently step in dog poo just before going in and tramp it all over their carpet.
I probably wouldn't actually do it, but planning is half the fun.

MirrorMirror1247 · 11/09/2024 20:00

My neighbours/their landlords currently owe me nearly £3.5k in total. I'd be glad to have your neighbour problems!

Blueblell · 11/09/2024 20:09

If they were jet washing the drive and the debris went over your car. Then they should have jet washed it while they were cleaning.

MayFairSquare · 11/09/2024 20:10

Did they do some power washing whilst you were away? If so, that's a good as it's a noisy job.

Laszlomydarling · 11/09/2024 20:11

Furious? Livid? Over mud? Seems like a massive overreaction

EqualSquare · 11/09/2024 20:16

It's not on. If my neighbour gets mud on my car when he's checking his drive then he always hoses it off.

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 11/09/2024 20:17

My neighbour frequently pressure washes his drive!, wee bit sad, I know, but he always washes ny car down after the mucky spray. It's the decent thing to do!
It just is......

Her neighbours weren't nice...

FrenchandSaunders · 11/09/2024 20:18

I’d be pissed off as well. Mud has prob got grit and other crap in it that could scratch the paintwork. Fine if it’s an old banger, not so great if you’ve spent a lot of money on a car.
