To be furious with neighbours

I was recently away for the weekend and left my car parked at home.

Came back early this week and noticed mud loads of muck and grass outside their house (they dont own a car so that space is empty and mine is directly beside theirs) and mud all over their fence from what looks like brushing/spraying from cleaning the footpath and their garden.

The mud was sprayed all over my car bonnet and windscreen - it was absolutely filthy.

I came across my neighbour as she was leaving yesterday and asked her was she cleaning outside as it made a lot of mess and its made my car filthy.

She just laughed and said "sure the rain will wash it off, sorry".

In fact, the rain did not "wash it off" and I spent £15 having to get the car cleaned.

I am furious. If I did this I would at least offer to pay for the car wash and not laugh off spraying dirt on someone's car.

AIBU to be pissed at this?

£15 to wash your car... OK, so you've a decent sized car, probably quite nice, you probably like your vehicle and your neighbour doesn't have one. So they know how to pee you off. If I were you I would be very very annoyed. But probably would have got to the neighbour more if you'd said nothing. I guess there's more underlying issues that you aren't saying.

Jinglesomeoftheway · 11/09/2024 21:11

There's more in life to worry about 💁

I'd just shrug this one off and choose not to give it too much thought

My neighbours spray painted the other side of our garden fence when we went on holiday. Our garden furniture was covered in specks of paint, couldn't be bothered to say anything, they were nice neighbours......

Thepossibility · 11/09/2024 21:23

At least they were doing something constructive I guess? On the weekend the teenaged boyfriend of a neighbour ripped up our lawn doing tricks on his motorised bike thing also spraying our car with mud in the process.

brunettemic · 11/09/2024 21:36

“Furious” 😂😂😂

CharlotteBog · 11/09/2024 21:37

My neighbour's grandson jet washed the path outside his gran's house, right where my car was parked. He did clean the car afterwards, but water did get between the double glazing and they never went back to how they were.

People need to be more considerate.

marchofthepenguins · 11/09/2024 21:38

I'm sure it's annoying but equally you were away for a full weekend so it's not like they could ask you to move car or give you a heads up, so are your neighbours expected not to work on their property until you return because that's not acceptable either

Sampler · 11/09/2024 21:42

I’d have got the hose out and ensured the mud from the car went on their path, but I’m petty like that.

lazzapazza · 11/09/2024 21:47

Are you physically unable to wash a car yourself? Yes okay it's a bit annoying but omg hardly the end of the world.

Furious? Livid? Over mud? Seems like a massive overreaction

It's really not! It's the principle of it! Accepting such lack of consideration is not reasonable.

If I mess up something that belongs to someone else, then the onus is on me to fix it. It's a matter of decency and integrity, qualities that seem to be sadly lacking.

Runnerinthenight · 11/09/2024 21:50

Edingril · 11/09/2024 20:23

Furious? you sound a calm and rational neighbour

If you would accept that, then you're a doormat.

Runnerinthenight · 11/09/2024 21:56

I actually don't believe half of the responses on here. I think the majority of people would be rightly annoyed in this situation. Hell, I would be, and my car is already filthy!!

Yes, thankfully I am not at the stage yet where the DVLA have taken my license away and my health hasn't deteriorated to that extent.

Sidebeforeself · 11/09/2024 19:48

It cant have been that filthy if you could drive it to get it cleaned?

Excuse me?

livelovelough24 · 11/09/2024 22:14

I would be absolutely furious too.

Excuse me?

The windscreen cant have been that filthy

DrFoxtrot · 11/09/2024 22:18

I would be furious too OP, and would also have washed it off back onto their path - or get someone to help me do it!

Retape · 11/09/2024 22:23

They should have cleaned it up. Rude not to,
