I've heard her put on a weird voice and repeatedly say, 20+ times, Scooby Dooby Doo in said weird voice. Turned off and 10 minutes later went into a shop that had Radio 2 on and she was still doing it. FFS she's paid a fortune for that nonsense and we're paying through the licence fee.

Oh I forgot the marvellous Liza Tarbuck!
Also Gary Davies should be back - not sure what intel Scott has on the boss but Gary Davies is leagues above him!!

fetchacloth · 09/09/2024 18:56

Problem is that she thinks she's still 20 years old 🙄, but she isn't, and she comes across as dumb because of it.
I agree OP, she's giving me the ick also.😫

greengreyblue · 09/09/2024 18:58

She does not think she’s in her 20s!! That’s a ridiculous comment .Do you think women over a certain age should go quiet and demure?? Nonsense. She’s funny and witty.

MuchasSmoochas · 09/09/2024 18:59

I think she’s wonderful, such a warm presenter. Always have her on when I’m making dinner.

RhubarbStrawberry · 09/09/2024 19:00

Why did she keep saying Scooby Doo? Was it some sort of game? Surely there was a reason for it? I saw her on Back in Time for School (i think it was her) and she was good.

PolaroidPrincess · 09/09/2024 19:02

I love Sara Cox.

I've never been a fan, thank god I don't pay the license fee&don't have to listen to her!

It’s not compulsory even for licence payers. 😉

Can you imagine if it was, that would be a hellscape made for me, forced to listen to Sara bloody Cox over and over😂.

FuckThePoPo · 09/09/2024 17:38

Plenty love her I know but not me I listen to lbc these days. Well apart from James 'did you know I've got a new book out' O'Brien

Snap! Can't stand Sarah Cox...irritating as hell. Love LBC (apart from James "Gob on a stick " O'brien). Sheila Fogarty, Tom Swarbrick and Lewis Goodall are brilliant presenters. 👏

Well I'm sorry but I disagree.
Many radio programmes on BBC Radio 2 have been dumbed down in recent years and this is one of them.

Saltedbutter · 09/09/2024 17:35

I often wonder if people are listening to the same Sara Cox as me - I love her!

Love her too. Gets me through my commute. A bit inane but I need that for commuting and can’t believe she can do 3 hours on her own.

greengreyblue · 09/09/2024 19:08

@RhubarbStrawberry she was talking about the updated Scooby Doo tune and joking about a petition to get the old one back. It was all light hearted while I cooked dinner. I don’t remember her saying it repeatedly.

Was going to add, I love her and she’s my age with similar age kids and that was maybe why as she talks about teens, being with family, fairly mundane adult life. Nothing about thinking she’s in her 20s

piscofrisco · 09/09/2024 19:11

I love her too. Each to their own. I don't know why people are so affronted by her and others on radio 2, this thread pops up in different guises all the time. If you don't like it don't listen? You can switch over.
I don't especially like Zoe ball, so I listen to five live in the morning and radio 2 for coming home.

YorkshireMedusa · 09/09/2024 19:11

Saltedbutter · 09/09/2024 17:37

Whereabouts are you from? I’m curious if it’s mainly Southern people that may find her voice an irritation!

I'm northern myself, I think my username is a dead giveaway! It's not the accent, it's the ridiculous intonation and idiosyncratic pronunciation.

I think she's great. Consistently funny.

She did, in a silly voice She was probably still going on about it though by the time you tuned in.

She often has callers on in Friday phone ins who struggle a bit with live radio and she's consistently great at getting people to talk and feel comfortable on the radio. A kind warm professional as well as a very funny lady.

ShyCrab · 09/09/2024 19:21

Curious to know if people don’t like her due to her Bolton accent, or is it the silly voices? I don’t mind her but she could do with toning it down a bit. She isn’t the worst of them.

Edited to add I also prefer Scott Mills in the breakfast slot. I feel like Zoe Ball has got more complacent as time has gone on; hopefully she gets replaced soon.

LlynTegid · 09/09/2024 19:24

Vote with the dial and choose another station.

I'm from the south Midlands and I agree with you, it's not her accent that grinds my gears, but the intonation that is frequently repeated and quickly becomes wearisome. I guess that on the radio, she's not my cup of tea really.

However a few years ago she presented a TV programme entitled 'Back to School', mentioned by another poster earlier, and she was brilliant at that. Maybe she just comes across better on TV.🙂

MaybeImbad · 09/09/2024 19:26

I think she’s great. It’s why have a tuning/off switch on your radio tho OP. Christ on a bike.

ExtraOnions · 09/09/2024 18:33

There is a reason R2 looses listeners month on month … the presenters. Seems like the only qualification you need to be a DJ is to be a mediocre stand up.

As for Paddy … left Bolton as soon as he could, yet has the most exaggerated accent I’ve ever heard. We just don’t talk like that.

Agree. I live in Bolton and can confirm I’ve never heard anyone talk like that, i find his hammed up accent actually quite offensive!
