I've heard her put on a weird voice and repeatedly say, 20+ times, Scooby Dooby Doo in said weird voice. Turned off and 10 minutes later went into a shop that had Radio 2 on and she was still doing it. FFS she's paid a fortune for that nonsense and we're paying through the licence fee.

She's significantly better than the chavvy sounding sounding spoony dj.

What a nasty thing to write. There is nothing wrong with how DJ Spoony talks.

If you’re so in awe of her OP, do the kind thing of asking for your this mean thread to be deleted…

You took my post out of context. That refers to her charity run; I'm no Paddy McGuiness fan either but I thought the same about him. I still do not like her style of presenting as evidenced.

FYI I've discussed this whole thread with @mnhq who've confirmed that the OP and thread is fine. Any individual posts that attack another poster or SC personally need to be reported.

The OP is not unkind but several posts in it are.

MN saying this thread and the OP is fine does not fine make.

It’s well known that MN is now an unpleasant place which MN HQ facilitates. These threads are invariably about women, not moderated properly and just encourage nasty posts and attacks.

Out of all the subjects you could have started a thread about was it really necessary to start one such as this?Is there not enough unpleasantness and hatred in the world?

I fail to see how not liking a style of presentation, and daring to say so, is unpleasant, or hatred. In fact, your posts have shown more attacks than any of mine.

Example: I like the presentation style of OJ Borg. He's a bloke. But if he starts mispronouncing words to be quirky, calling callers by silly made up names and repeating something over and over, I'd be irritated by that too.

You know full well your op was an attack and an invite to a pile on aimed at ripping her to shreds.

I don’t get the need.

She receives money from the public purse and earns a heel of a lot more than the PM. What shouldn't people criticise the perceived lack of talent and fake persona?

The professional northerner shtick has HD it's day and I think people have a right to say so. As a northerner I hate people using exaggerated stereotypes to 'get with the people'

I don't really see her as a professional northerner. It's the way she speaks that has nothing to do with her accent. Idiosyncratic pronunciations of words and referring to callers as G-Dog and T-Dog is weird. It's nothing to do with being a woman either as some people erroneously state. She's capable of presenting well as seen on some TV shows. It's also possible to be humorous without the strangled words and so on, too.

I just googled it. Kier earns more. This is a nonsense thread, just like Sarahs shows! But she still brings more to the table than him.

OonaStubbs · 23/11/2025 01:14

I don't really see why BBC Radio 1 and 2 need to be publicly funded stations. Their content is really no different to any of the various commercial radio stations even the local ones.

Gofaster2023 · 23/11/2025 02:00

Can we stop this now? Pure nasty. There is nothing remotely useful or helpful to anyone. It is purely bullying by people who.wouldnt have the balls to say it in public. And damn straight i would say this to them if they were brave enough to say it in front of me.

I'm the one who started this, because I don't want to be treated like a child by radio shows I listen to. We're consumers, and have the right to talk about and criticise, review etc, what we consume. People who do these jobs are fully aware they're not for everyone.

I can say with honesty that if SC was my friend I'd be honest with her and say what I think about her show. Not that it'd make any difference, because that's her radio persona. If I ever met her and she asked. I'd tell her. That'd not be bullying.

I've no idea why Keir Starmer got dragged into it.

A really talented broadcaster on a radio station (supposedly aimed at mature adults) who is speaking in a way that appeals to 7 year olds.

Very droll. But my initial isn't Y and it only works with initials with a specific sound. Y isn't one.

I don't listen! I did for 10 minutes on Friday on a short drive though because I wanted to see what she'd say about the challenge. She didn't really but it was the phone in day and all the callers I heard wanted to talk about it.

As long as the licence fee exists, people have a right to complain about the BBC output. Why can't we have intelligent conversation between the music instead of just inane waffle and silly voices?

Or just music, no chat that would be best.

I think there's laws about how much music they are allowed to play. Hence the talking between songs.

There’s a thread slagging off radio 2 hosts every few days … I don’t get it.

Why are they still putting her on the radio. I'm 40 and remember hearing her when I was 16 or so.

Can they not replace the "talent" every 2 decades?

Come on
.

How would you like it if someone said that about you and job just because of your age? Are you really pushing for getting rid of women in roles due to their age? Her bosses obviously feel she’s doing a good job which will be backed up by listening figures. I’m sure if they were dropping she’d be gone.

YANBU. I recommend trying the ‘choosing what you listen to’ method where you choose what you prefer to listen to, instead of the output you don’t enjoy.

Bit of Radio 3 bants and a brew, job done?

With Sara, like a lot of the 90s in crowds there is little self reflection about the past and how careers started. It just takes a quick Google to see the sky magazine and various pictures of Sara in wet t-shirts to show Sara was quite willing to take on many opportunities for self pronotion. I guess it was her modelling career that started it all which is a poor message to young intelligent women that actual.communication talent gets you jobs within the entertainment industry.

This is no different then to Love Islanders and people from Gogglebox becoming a 'celebrity'', at least in terms of grabbing opportunities. However people like that tend to do the reality show rounds.

I've just read up a bit about Sara and it appears she left school at 18 to pursue a career in modelling and 4 years later was presenting the Girlie Show. I don't know how or where she received training in presenting but I only consulted Wikipedia. She probably just learned as she went along. I believe Vernon Kay and Tess Daly started off in the same way.

It's really astonishing to me that people think this is about misogyny. For goodness sake I'm one myself.

I did find the wet T-shirt and thong pictures and this though where she said the queen mother smelled like wee!
