I've heard her put on a weird voice and repeatedly say, 20+ times, Scooby Dooby Doo in said weird voice. Turned off and 10 minutes later went into a shop that had Radio 2 on and she was still doing it. FFS she's paid a fortune for that nonsense and we're paying through the licence fee.

Her show used to coincide with my daily run. I managed to listen and enjoy for a couple of weeks before getting burnt out. It's all a bit repetitive. Are the Muppets song and the You're Welcome song still being played? I had to physically take my headphones off in the end whenever they were played 😬

Switched to Radio 1 instead and now usually coincide with Jack Saunders. There's a guy who's madly fawning about every piece of music ever played in the history of radio! Why use one adjective when twenty will do?

Tbh, I don't really understand why we have DJs. Just play the music, give us the name of the track without chatting all over it, and read a shout-out if you're feeling fancy.

I think she’s great. It’s why have a tuning/off switch on your radio tho OP. Christ on a bike.

Does that mean I'm not allowed to mention it?

YorkshireMedusa · 09/09/2024 21:40

@oakleaffy Seriously? I'm not allowed to say I don't like a radio presenter because she's a woman?

This is not "slagging her off" I thought that turn of phrase vanished in the playground. I don't find someone repeatedly saying Scooby Dooby Doo over and over and over entertaining. I thought it was puerile. I don't find a presenter deliberately pronouncing words in a silly voice to try to be quirky entertaining either.

I wouldn't like it if Mark Goofier, Simon Mayo, Toby Tarrant, Michelle Visage or Trevor Nelson did it either.

Sara Cox has done a decent job on TV shows I've seen her in but I don't like her radio show.

Neither is this "hatred".

I like all of the radio 2 crowd, used to love them on radio 1 too. I’m glad the older ones have gone. Wish Tony Blackburn and the sounds of the 70’s chap would go too!

Wow. Do you not like 70s music or not like Johnny Walker? His show is one of the last that shows real musical intelligence. Walker is a consumate professional, compare him to the drivel that the non-professional DJ ("entertainers") spew out and its chalk and cheese. When he goes - and he's very ill - it's another nail in the R2 coffin.

You do you, I like who I like, you like who you like, but its genuinely sad to see that people want people like Johnny Walker to stop broadcasting.

@YorkshireMedusa I thought @oakleaffy was wondering why this thread was standing, why a comparable thread about another woman was pulled. In that thread, people were also praising and disliking the protagonist (a comedienne).

And yet they are both personal attacks, and in that thread, people didn’t like her comedy, not her disability.

Stepawayfromthefridgenow · 09/09/2024 21:59

Aww I think she seems so lovely-what a horrible thread, imagine if she read it and how crap she’d feel 😔

ForPearlViper · 09/09/2024 22:01

Surely if you don't like a presenter you just don't listen to them. It's not like we are short of entertainment options on demand these days. I am hard pressed to understand why some people feel so strongly they feel compelled to share to share their dislike on social media.

I'd love to know what the OP was wanting to achieve by their post.

Eggseggslegs · 09/09/2024 22:02

Cox is great! The music on Radio 2 is so bland and old fashioned though, I don't really listen to it. In my 40s, not 80s!!

And let us not think about the sharp intakes of breath every 3 seconds.

As for the moron (kill me, he bloody is) Ritchie Anderson.

DS and I enjoy counting down from getting in the car to one of them saying "iconic".

Frankly the only thing worse than the both is "Love ya" Scott Mills and the incessant blathering about fucking Preston in the Park.

Yes, I can switch off/over but I'm a long life R2 listener. That said, just today I've finally re progged the car to Chris Evans in the morning.

Oh god yes the breath intakes 😣

and Ritchie, how the hell as he progressed from traffic reader to stand in presenter 😳

I like Chris Evans, might join you on there !

Crikeyalmighty · 09/09/2024 22:08

I personally think all these 50 something women ( and I'm 62) and I include Jo whiley in that too --sound like they are trying too hard to still be young , hip, glasto girlies in pink spotty wellies.

It's a bit like grizzled 70 something male rockers doing the 'let's make sweet love baby, baby' songs

I work in that industry but it does grind my gears- silly voices and all. Clearly age is catching up on me as I genuinely would rather listen to James o Brien or Sheila Fogarty or Andrew Marr having intelligent chats on LBC

@ForPearlViper You asked what I was aiming for with the OP. This is a board to ask if I'm being unreasonable. I don't find it interesting to hear someone repeating a phrase from a children's cartoon show over and over and over again a) entertainment b) worthy of the licence fee or c) adult entertainment (in the proper sense of the phrase). So the post was to see votes and comments.

I love her and don’t understand the daily mumsnet hatred towards her.

@oakleaffy I’ve reported posts in the past but apparently the Radio 2 djs hatred is allowed.

l don’t get it either. If people don’t like, they don’t have to listen.

I used to quite like Sara Cox, but for the past few months I've felt that she's trying too hard. She just needs to tone it down a bit.
Zoe Ball is dreadful - I don't know why the Beeb persist with her; she just witters. Even Boring Scott Mills in the morning is better than Zoe.
Liza Tarbuck is the best of the lot - funny, warm, smart and plays really interesting music.

DeerHead · 09/09/2024 22:31

I listen to radio 4 because you get no filling in and no waffling. I hate all the inane chat about what the presenter had for breakfast or whatever that you get on radio 1 and 2, radio 4 is so much smoother without the filler crap (and yes I appreciate this is because there is no music so it can be organised easier and you don’t need the filler crap)

I did used to love Simon Mayo though, he was brilliant and I used to cry laughing at some of the confessions.

ShowOfHands · 09/09/2024 22:31

I adore her. She's warm, funny, kind and relaxed.

If you don't like it, I agree that switching off quietly is best. These sorts of threads always turn into pure nastiness.

TheDogsMother · 09/09/2024 22:32

I haven't been a huge fan of Scott Mills in the afternoon but the recent Scott on the breakfast show and Spoony in the afternoon is great.

chosenone · 09/09/2024 22:35

I’ve always loved her! Feel like I’ve grown up with her and find her down to earth and funny. I heard the Scooby Doo thing and just thought she might be feeling a bit dizzy and delirious after a busy weekend in Preston 🤷‍♀️
