I've heard her put on a weird voice and repeatedly say, 20+ times, Scooby Dooby Doo in said weird voice. Turned off and 10 minutes later went into a shop that had Radio 2 on and she was still doing it. FFS she's paid a fortune for that nonsense and we're paying through the licence fee.

This is exactly why l haven't listed to tv or radio ten years plus.
It absolutely bores me to death, and l can't tolerate the presenters constantly talking shit. I'm surprised to be honest anyone bothers listing to it anymore, l enjoy my audio books and Spotify much better.

As a northerner I just wish the BBC would not pander to professional northerners who stereotype groups within our country. Jokes about 'chips and gravy' are as old as 'snippets and flat caps' and to my mind patronize the diverse populations of our northern counties. I put Paddy McGuiness and Vernon Kay in the same group, trading on their northern routes for an artificial authenticity.

HelenWheels · 24/08/2025 06:07

i love the Archives slot that Vernon Kay does
what a difference in speaking the BBC had then!

I just can't listen to Vernon Kay.
He's absolutely awful. He just laughs at himself weirdly and is another one who can't just do a quick 30 second snippet and play the next song.
Even something simple like the travel Vernon chats absolute rubbish to Ellie, then you have travel and then more Vernon waffle.

HelenWheels · 24/08/2025 10:26

oh Vernon has grown on me and I am disappointed when it is not Him

NormasArse · 24/08/2025 10:29

I really like her 🤷‍♀️.

But I’m northern, so perhaps that makes a difference.

Having said that, I listen to Absolute Radio now because the music is usually better.

I listen to Absolute Radio or radio X. But I have smooth radio on standby so I don't have to listen to Chris Moyles or Toby Tarrant.
6.30 to 1pm everyday. Smooth radio on standby as the music is none stop.

CalamityGanon · 24/08/2025 10:41

I can’t abide Zoe Ball and is the reason I no longer listen to breakfast radio and listen to podcasts instead. I know she no longer does breakfast but it’s too late for me now and I prefer podcasts. She was the sole reason I moved to Radio 2 after she took over Radio 1 breakfast then she came to Radio 2 breakfast!,,

It’s the shrieking and the faux excitement about everything that really grates along with the ‘I’m mad me and a bit stupid’ persona.

I hate the accompanying music so much I have to turn the radio off til it's finished! I have to do the same with Sarah Cox's jingle

"I've got everything that I need" song - is that the Muppets? I hated the Muppets!

BitOutOfPractice · 24/08/2025 16:26

That song gives my very mild-mannered DP the rage of all rages.

Me too. I like Sara Cox though.

Account734 · 24/08/2025 17:29

Can't stand her, she's like nails on a chalk board to me.

lotsofpatience · 24/08/2025 18:06

Where do they get these fucking presenters? They are diabolical.

Game0fCrones · 24/08/2025 18:14

I'm from the Midlands and she irritates me. I think she's from Bury or Oldham or one of those places but her accent seems really exaggerated and i hate how she sucks in air through her teeth at the end of each sentence.

i think she'd do well to adopt a more mature radio persona now.

I also cant abide that feature where listeners ring up and talk about what food they're going to make for dinner that evening. So dull.

I do enjoy the music she plays though and she seems like a good egg.

StMarieforme · 24/08/2025 18:20

StasisMom · 09/09/2024 17:20

Just don't listen?! I don't see the need to start a thread, solely to slag her off!

Absolutely this. Why be so nasty?

She ,s from Bolton ,the Bolton accent csn be very broad depending on where someone lived
I think she's from Little lever though where it's not that broad.

RobertaFirmino · 24/08/2025 19:06

The marvellous thing about digital radio is that there are countless options. Don't like the show that's on? Listen to a different station, problem solved.

Paddy McGuiness was talking to a woman called Surrah about her child eating his dinner and told her to put him in a high churr. He's got a much stronger accent than Sara Cox. So has Vernon Kay for that matter.

My gripe with Sara Cox is not her accent but the nonsense way she pronounces words (there's another thread that popped up in Similar Threads) and the repetition.

Yes Paddy is very broad but he's from Farnworth, Farnworth folk do tend to have strong accents
I'm from Bury but live in Bolton even in Bury clares, are known as Clurs and Jane's are known as Jurns not by all of us but very broadc speaking residents.

I find Scott Mills is even duller. The one minute list of names of listeners every morning and then the easiest quiz on radio. He just hasn't got modern pizzazz you need first thing in the morning.
I thought the woman standing in for Sara was good to start off with. But she has now decided to be ott about absolutely everything. So someone travelling in a car with a baby is all of a sudden doing a round the world trek on a horse and cart.

YorkshireMedusa · 10/09/2025 09:31

I'm just listening to Scott Mills now while getting housework out of the wY. I heard him say that some dog or other was on "Kids in a car" on the drive time show yesterday. Is this now a regular feature? 🙉🙉🙉
