To be flabbergasted, amazed, and perplexed by my friends bean choice

I was recently at a friend’s house and noticed they only had supermarket own brand beans. I was flabbergasted and astonished. It has rocked me to the core.

My friend isn’t short of money. She earns six figures, has a 900k house (mortgaged), has a BMW, and holidays in the Maldives annually.

I was there for lunch. I was expecting bruschetta with cherry tomatoes from the artisan farmer’s market. When she offered me beans on toast, I just couldn’t take it any longer and had to leave. I told her it was because I thought I’d left the hot tub on, but I think she knew it was the beans.

It’s been on my mind ever since, although I’ve tried to forget it. I thought about leaving a four pack of Heinz on her doorstep but not sure she’d take them with the kindess they were intended.

Should I just go no contact or low contact?

YANBU, Heinz beans are awful.

Leave her Branston.

PS don't go LC, she's to be pitied.

A Reverse ? Or just a wind up !

Thank god you didn't drop by at breakfast time and see a box of cheatabix. Less than half the price of Wheatabix!

Keep calm op and try not to let these things spoil a good friendship. 😋

PeriIsKickingMyButt · 02/09/2024 08:23

I know you're trying to be funny but it's really not

I’m guessing this is a wind up. But every one knows most branded beans are rubbish, Heinz and Branston included. Aldi or Tesco own brand are the way to go.

I think so, but lacking in humour.

3/10 OP must try harder.

RufustheFactualReindeer · 02/09/2024 08:25

Tesco own brand here 🫣

MagentaRavioli · 02/09/2024 08:25

I prefer the Duchy organic beans. Heinz are too pale and gloopy.

3/10 is very incredibly generous of you imo.

It’s a bring your own beans BYOB situation

I prefer the branston ones compared to Heinz these days as the sugar / salt has been reduced a lot and they just don't taste the same anymore.

Sparrow7 · 02/09/2024 08:29

Maybe this is some sort of brand marketing idea, make people feel self conscious that they will be judged by their friends if they buy off brand. Probably not Heinz beans though as of the inevitable backlash of people saying Heinz is rubbish. Maybe an adjacent product 🤔

AuntieMaud · 02/09/2024 08:30

I read somewhere that the royals aren't allowed to eat baked beans (amongst other food items) as they can't risk farting while on public engagements.

Sorry for derailing the thread.
Any good fart stories? No. Ok then 🫢🥳

BBCLW · 02/09/2024 08:30

I boycott Heinz beans because the tins don't stack properly.

GalileoHumpkins · 02/09/2024 08:31

Oh yay a comedy thread 🙄

Idontjetwashthefucker · 02/09/2024 08:32

RainintheDesert · 02/09/2024 08:32

Sainsbury's own here. They are nice. Though I'm told M&S beans are nicer.

Heinz are expensive & lack flavour.

NoahVale · 02/09/2024 08:33

what a shame
