Embarrassing problem re claustrophobia/underwear

Ok. Firstly. I am a woman. Please do not report me for being a man....

I have an embarrassing predicament. I accidentally stopped wearing knickers over a period of time and now I fear I can never go back. I'm looking for advice, has anyone had similar? Maybe with bras, socks, an item of clothing? How do I go back.. here is the full lowdown. (Pun unintended).

I used to wear knickers around the clock, bed, everyday, gym - that was normal to me and I'm sure all of you.

I was speaking to my partner one day about 6 years ago, telling him that after the gym my underwear is soaked through in sweat. He genuinely asked why I bother wearing them, gym leggings are designed to absorb sweat and keep me cool.

I'd never thought of that before..... and one day tried going commando.

Separately in bed, he sleeps naked and I used to wear knickers under pyjamas or on their own and he used to joke 'what are all these clothes' and over time I just joined him sleeping totally starkers.

I didn't know it at the time but these very small tweaks led me down a path...

Pandemic hit, I lived in gym leggings. I didn't wear knickers. I also put on quite a lot of weight, so when the time came to put them on again, I realised I was SO much more comfy without them!!!

Went on holiday end of summer 2020 and was able to wear bikini bottoms, then by summer 2021, I was so claustrophobic in them that I wouldn't wear them to breakfast and would last on the subbed as long as possible then cave in and put them on just to lay there and swim but take them off to walk back to the room.

I've tried buying so many different types but have also since had a c-section and they itch my keloid scar, they feel tight on my legs, and I don't like the feeling anymore.

I'm so self conscious as this is not normal!!! It's been nearly 5 years since the decline in wearing them started.

I just cannot stand the thought of wearing them!! Help.

AIBU just to be a commando woman the rest of my life? Should I even care? If I feel free and happier then maybe I am being unreasonable on myself. I'm deeply ashamed and embarrassed and would do anything to go back to my non stop knickers days.

Worth mentioning I also used to wear jeans everyday and I can't stand them now, as I got older I just didn't like the feel of them. Even pre pandemic but especially post pandemic when I put on weight anyway. Is getting older becoming for comfortable and sure of who you are???

Erm. I'm kind of the same, OP.

I don't wear knickers under gym leggings, with trousers nor if I'm wearing tights. I'll only wear them if I'm a dress/skirt and bare legs.

What on earth would be "leaking out"? In the absence of any medical issues, people don't just randomly "leak" and in such instances, trousers would be changed in the same way you'd need to be changing your underwear?

Is this a serious question?

crimsonlake · 28/08/2024 16:43

I have been know to go knickerless in the heat, but only if I am wearing a long skirt or dress.
I also go bra less in the heat when I can, generally I find them very restricting and it's the first thing to come off when I get in from work.
However it's a big no to me to go without underwear in leggins or jeans, it is giving me the ick big time.

jammybuscuits · 28/08/2024 16:45

How do you handle vaginal discharge!

I am very sensitive to clothing, mostly the threading and labels on them.
For a size 12 body, size 12 knickers are too small. I tend to go up one size or sometimes two. Totally comfortable

Duckyfondant · 28/08/2024 16:49

Come on people, wear underwear under your gym clothes when sharing equipment! They're not designed to catch vaginal secretions, for goodness sake. Grim!

Exactly.

SensibleSigma · 28/08/2024 16:55

Surely the scrunch bum leggings are worn comando? Not by me obviously. And you’ll not find me in the gym either.

Tights and modesty shorts worn commando are a revelation. So much more comfortable and cool. But something must always cover the nethers.

TomatoSandwiches · 28/08/2024 16:55

What about your fanny gravel?

stopthepigeonstopthepigeon · 28/08/2024 17:07

I’m female and I have no idea what fart crumbs or fanny gravel are. But yeah there’s some form of discharge most days of the month so not sure id go commando day to day. Fact is I wear my period pants a lot of the time anyway for extra “security”.

EveryDayFruity · 28/08/2024 17:10

What did I say that got deleated?

Buy pants that fit....

Get out of here with your easy and sensible solutions and don’t come back. 🤔

This is one of the reasons that I don't go to a gym 🤢

Yes commando under tights is a must.

You must be very 'dry'. Are you menopausal age?

I would not got pantsless in public in leggings, they can easily be see through without the wearer noticing. I have seen so much of people in the past on escalators or bending over suddenly in front of me that I can read the writing on the thong tag poking out their ass clack. I wonder why they even bothered wearing anything but they always seem completely oblivious to the fact they might as well be wearing a pane of glass.

I was walking behind someone in leggings a couple of weeks ago. They were so see through that I could clearly see that they were wearing bright pink, high waisted knickers made of shiny bright pink fabric with a double gusset and the label sticking up. I couldn't actually read it though!

If she hadn't been wearing them, the whole world would have been able to see if she'd recently had her bits waxed.

gratefulbutsad · 28/08/2024 17:22

They sound cheap leggings. I only wear sweaty Betty or Lululemons, both are brands who do not deal in paper thin legging.

Perhaps if you spent less on leggings you could afford some pants? Or a home gym 🤢

BarbedButterfly · 28/08/2024 17:24

I can only wear under dresses and skirts. Can't stand the feeling under trousers. Just do whatever makes you comfortable

mynameiscalypso · 28/08/2024 17:31

If you don't wear underwear with trousers/jeans, don't you run the risk of chafing and awkwardly placed seams digging into your bits?

wickerlady · 28/08/2024 15:16

This is absolutely revolting. I hope you change your pants/leggings daily! 🤢

I don’t think she was asking for financial advice, nor suggesting that she could not afford underwear because she buys expensive leggings.
The grim face you have shared says more about your level of personal hygiene than theirs to be so concerned about someone not wearing underwear. What do you experience from your vagina that your underwear protects others from. It must be grim for you to project that onto others.
Your underwear does also not contain any form of protective layer, if it’s moist down below, its moist, underwear or not, your still walking round with it.

Melodysmum12 · 28/08/2024 17:36

Hmm the thought makes me uncomfortable as I get discharge like everyone else? and surely this would then be on your legs or in your leggings?! Eurgh!
