Embarrassing problem re claustrophobia/underwear

Ok. Firstly. I am a woman. Please do not report me for being a man....

I have an embarrassing predicament. I accidentally stopped wearing knickers over a period of time and now I fear I can never go back. I'm looking for advice, has anyone had similar? Maybe with bras, socks, an item of clothing? How do I go back.. here is the full lowdown. (Pun unintended).

I used to wear knickers around the clock, bed, everyday, gym - that was normal to me and I'm sure all of you.

I was speaking to my partner one day about 6 years ago, telling him that after the gym my underwear is soaked through in sweat. He genuinely asked why I bother wearing them, gym leggings are designed to absorb sweat and keep me cool.

I'd never thought of that before..... and one day tried going commando.

Separately in bed, he sleeps naked and I used to wear knickers under pyjamas or on their own and he used to joke 'what are all these clothes' and over time I just joined him sleeping totally starkers.

I didn't know it at the time but these very small tweaks led me down a path...

Pandemic hit, I lived in gym leggings. I didn't wear knickers. I also put on quite a lot of weight, so when the time came to put them on again, I realised I was SO much more comfy without them!!!

Went on holiday end of summer 2020 and was able to wear bikini bottoms, then by summer 2021, I was so claustrophobic in them that I wouldn't wear them to breakfast and would last on the subbed as long as possible then cave in and put them on just to lay there and swim but take them off to walk back to the room.

I've tried buying so many different types but have also since had a c-section and they itch my keloid scar, they feel tight on my legs, and I don't like the feeling anymore.

I'm so self conscious as this is not normal!!! It's been nearly 5 years since the decline in wearing them started.

I just cannot stand the thought of wearing them!! Help.

AIBU just to be a commando woman the rest of my life? Should I even care? If I feel free and happier then maybe I am being unreasonable on myself. I'm deeply ashamed and embarrassed and would do anything to go back to my non stop knickers days.

Worth mentioning I also used to wear jeans everyday and I can't stand them now, as I got older I just didn't like the feel of them. Even pre pandemic but especially post pandemic when I put on weight anyway. Is getting older becoming for comfortable and sure of who you are???

Is that because you feel more comfortable? Do you feel claustrophobic too. I'm so relieved, I thought no one else was the same and was looking for advice on where to go from here.

Looks like no one else is bothered about their decision.

Yes defo because i feel more comfortable that way, i hardly wear a bra either unless absolutely necessary (i have small boobs so its not a problem usually). I do it because i hate the restrictive feeling of a lot of clothing and just prefer to be free and natural as much as possible! I sleep naked too even in winter.

I shower every day and wear deodorant every day so i feel clean and fine! Don't worry OP, i dont think its strange at all.

How are you when it comes to holidays and wearing all in one full bathing suits and bikini bottoms? Do you wear them morning to late afternoon no problem or feel restricted?

When I lost most of my post lockdown and baby weight last summer I was able to wear them more but still liked the option to swap into beach shorts.

I've never worn a bathing suit for a full day, I wear it into the water then change 🤷🏻‍♀️ Non issue for me, not because I don't like the feeling of a swim suit, it just wouldn't enter my head to sit about in one all day. If I had to do it I could do it easily, I'm not so irritated by the sensation that I wouldn't manage.

You must be very 'dry'. Are you menopausal age?

I would not got pantsless in public in leggings, they can easily be see through without the wearer noticing. I have seen so much of people in the past on escalators or bending over suddenly in front of me that I can read the writing on the thong tag poking out their ass clack. I wonder why they even bothered wearing anything but they always seem completely oblivious to the fact they might as well be wearing a pane of glass.

I wouldn't wear leggings full stop. Much less see through ones.

What on earth would be "leaking out"? In the absence of any medical issues, people don't just randomly "leak" and in such instances, trousers would be changed in the same way you'd need to be changing your underwear?

I think you'll find women do, its health and normal part of woman hood.

A lack of vaginal discharge in a fertile age woman denotes a medical issues as its required for function and 'self cleaning'. Lack of discharge in menopausal women while normal/common can cause a host of health problems and is a big reason for hormone replacement and lubricants.

wickerlady · 28/08/2024 15:16

This is absolutely revolting. I hope you change your pants/leggings daily! 🤢

broccolienthusiast · 28/08/2024 15:19

You sit on gym equipment with just your leggings on? 🤢 another fear unlocked, cheers

Apollo365 · 28/08/2024 15:24

I’m with you! But mine is Bras 🤣 I flipping well hate them and only wear them when husband comments..

LostittoBostik · 28/08/2024 15:25

But the right size. I had to admit to myself recently that I'm no longer a size 8, I'm basically a 12.

It was hard, I'm in my 40s now and have been an 8/10 since my teens, always an 8 in knickers.

Experiment with lots of different styles. You may like ones that come all the way up over the top of your stomach rather than cutting you in half

Unexpected period?

init4thecats · 28/08/2024 15:51

I wouldn't... but I've had things tear in that area without me knowing it... so I wouldn't want stuff being visible to everyone!

Not all women leak down there 🤣

Gawjus · 28/08/2024 15:57

I have not worn knickers for 5 or so years. Never have worn them in bed, and over the years gradually stopped in daytime, too. The only exception was when a nurse was going to look at a cut near my crotch so I wore a pair for modesty. I live in ankle length skirts and never wear trousers. I'm post menopausal and don't have any noticeable discharge.

The only time I regretted it was when I was out one day and it suddenly became very windy and my hippie style skirt was blown up to my shoulders.

Apollo365 · 28/08/2024 15:57

Pretty sure this thread will be deleted soon though😅

lizzyBennet08 · 28/08/2024 15:58

Honestly I think it's fine but a bit grim not to wash trousers after each wear. Woman have natural secretions each day which will stain your clothes and smell. It would be like wearing knickers for multiple days .

Get a life. Why do you flatter yourself thinking a man would come here and write this. Are you so narrow minded in real life?

I don't 'leak'... and I'm not menopausal I have a toddler. I don't get the question. It's actually stopped my UTIs since going underwear free and I think it's more hygienic.

I didn't think 6(?) and counting women would say the same thing. I'm going to stop worrying! This must be more common than anyone thinks.

Lots of different styles but who cares anyway???

On holiday in often book resorts that allow naked swimming even, common in the canaries

Singleandproud · 28/08/2024 14:37

Buy M&S slip culottes for under your skirts.

Underwear is there for hygiene purposes and not wearing any at all is pretty grim when there are plenty of styles to chose. I also think it's pretty grim to sleep naked unless you are washing your bedsheets every night, same with trousers by all means go commando but wash the trousers.

Edited

If you go to bed clean you shouldn't need to change your sheets every day.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 28/08/2024 16:07

If they're irritating a section scar and the tops of your legs, you're buying them at least two sizes too small and too low rise. Also probably cheap synthetics.

Just buy natural material, high rise, ones in a plus size. Marks is an easy retailer to access, as would be any number of brands on Amazon. Problem solved, no need for weird posts on the internet.

mitogoshi · 28/08/2024 16:08

@Singleandproud

Why is it grim to sleep naked, I've managed for nearly 40 years without issue!
