Embarrassing problem re claustrophobia/underwear

Ok. Firstly. I am a woman. Please do not report me for being a man....

I have an embarrassing predicament. I accidentally stopped wearing knickers over a period of time and now I fear I can never go back. I'm looking for advice, has anyone had similar? Maybe with bras, socks, an item of clothing? How do I go back.. here is the full lowdown. (Pun unintended).

I used to wear knickers around the clock, bed, everyday, gym - that was normal to me and I'm sure all of you.

I was speaking to my partner one day about 6 years ago, telling him that after the gym my underwear is soaked through in sweat. He genuinely asked why I bother wearing them, gym leggings are designed to absorb sweat and keep me cool.

I'd never thought of that before..... and one day tried going commando.

Separately in bed, he sleeps naked and I used to wear knickers under pyjamas or on their own and he used to joke 'what are all these clothes' and over time I just joined him sleeping totally starkers.

I didn't know it at the time but these very small tweaks led me down a path...

Pandemic hit, I lived in gym leggings. I didn't wear knickers. I also put on quite a lot of weight, so when the time came to put them on again, I realised I was SO much more comfy without them!!!

Went on holiday end of summer 2020 and was able to wear bikini bottoms, then by summer 2021, I was so claustrophobic in them that I wouldn't wear them to breakfast and would last on the subbed as long as possible then cave in and put them on just to lay there and swim but take them off to walk back to the room.

I've tried buying so many different types but have also since had a c-section and they itch my keloid scar, they feel tight on my legs, and I don't like the feeling anymore.

I'm so self conscious as this is not normal!!! It's been nearly 5 years since the decline in wearing them started.

I just cannot stand the thought of wearing them!! Help.

AIBU just to be a commando woman the rest of my life? Should I even care? If I feel free and happier then maybe I am being unreasonable on myself. I'm deeply ashamed and embarrassed and would do anything to go back to my non stop knickers days.

Worth mentioning I also used to wear jeans everyday and I can't stand them now, as I got older I just didn't like the feel of them. Even pre pandemic but especially post pandemic when I put on weight anyway. Is getting older becoming for comfortable and sure of who you are???

My aunt has never worn them. It's not a big deal unless you decide to wear short skirts and sit with your legs open.

You do you boo 😁

Get a life. Why do you flatter yourself thinking a man would come here and write this. Are you so narrow minded in real life?

I don't 'leak'... and I'm not menopausal I have a toddler. I don't get the question. It's actually stopped my UTIs since going underwear free and I think it's more hygienic.

Vaginas aren't dry. If you're not menopausal you will have secretions. Your leggings, which you neither change nor wash after using, will be absorbing those secretions instead of your underwear. That is the opposite of hygenic. And quite grim for anyone else who sits on a seat after you.

Singleandproud · 28/08/2024 16:09

Right, so if you have a shower just before bed it prevents you from shedding skin, discharge and sweat - oh wait, no it doesn't.

You crack on but I still think it's grim, I wear fresh Pjs every night too.

gratefulbutsad · 28/08/2024 16:11

@HollyKnight no one asked me about gym leggings? I was asked about trousers. Read the thread properly before calling me grim. I wash gym leggings each time following exercise regardless of my pre or post knicker days. Same with sports bra and gym top and socks for that matter.

It’s pretty normal to have discharge at different times during your cycle , what do you do on those days? Specially around ovulation ?

Good for you?

I don't even own pj's.

I can imagine this sort of pearl clutching reaction to people leaving off their corsets and bloomers a century ago 😂

Right? I'm calling it that in a decades time underwear will be on the decline.

Fine. You don't wash or change your trousers after you've leaked into them. That's much better. 🙄

Not. It's still grim.

PetrichorSoul · 28/08/2024 16:18

How dirty are all of these women who need to wash bedsheets every night after sleeping naked????

OP I only wear knickers when I go out. I WFH so the vast majority of the time I am knickerless. I also sleep naked.

I find boxers to be the most comfortable when I have to wear them.

and you're single handedly adding to the environmental issues we're having with your tons of laundry. It's not the flex you think it is.

Normallynumb · 28/08/2024 16:22

Buy bigger, higher seamless ones
It's not rocket science is it?
Why would a woman start a thread to ponder this? Hmmn

GoldenLegend · 28/08/2024 16:22

One of my friends stopped wearing them when she had a bad bout of thrush. I don’t know if she ever restarted. I suspect going commando is more common than you think. I mean, a thong is more or less commando anyway!

soonandsoforth · 28/08/2024 16:28

Why do you keep saying posters would be "flattering" themselves to think a perv started this thread? That's a really weird attitude.

SensibleSigma · 28/08/2024 16:29

I couldn’t have done without- we clearly all function slightly differently. I was a pad and tampon/mooncup woman, and still at risk of it looking like a crime scene.

Some of us go through life unable to risk white trousers. Others clearly don’t!

I have gradually got fussier and fussier about styles though.

Wishimaywishimight · 28/08/2024 16:30

I can't believe you typed all of that out - seriously! Wear knickers or don't - who cares?

Disturbia81 · 28/08/2024 16:30

GalileoHumpkins · 28/08/2024 14:16

How do you deal with anything that might leak out?

This. My knickers catch the plethora of things my vagina and sounding areas produces 😂
I don't know why but it makes the idea of using gym equipment and sitting on seats after you feel a bit grosser. Even though logically knickers don't stop leakages all together but they help.

Wishimaywishimight · 28/08/2024 16:31

What actually is your "predicament"?

Fluufer · 28/08/2024 16:32

Op, what was the point in this thread? As to me, you don't seem embarrassed or ashamed in the least. Nor do you seem interested in what anyone else actually thinks. Why did you feel the need to declare to the internet that you don't wear pants?

I haven’t worn underwear since my hysterectomy, 14 years ago. It’s not a big deal 🤷‍♀️

This makes me so happy!!

yeah, I bet it does

Disturbia81 · 28/08/2024 16:36

I know we're all different but I'm shocked there are women who don't leak things. Its totally normal, not a medical issue 🙄 I shower every day and change knickers twice so nothing to do with poor hygiene. Tiny bits of pee? Discharge? Sweat? Pre period? Cum from previous night? Fart crumbs 😆 Etc etc

poptake · 28/08/2024 16:37

It's almost like OP doesn't t know what you'd be referring to.

PipMumsnet · 28/08/2024 16:37

Hello everyone, as you must know by now we take a very dim view of troll hunting on the boards yet here we are again - please stop, we have already deleted several troll hunting posts from this thread.

We have checked the OP and we have no reason to believe they are anything but genuine. If you ever have any concerns please report them to us, we are best placed to check things out.

They didn't have material in the middle at that time and floor/ankle length skirts and petticoats and liners would ensure that nothing was visible. Which explains quite why the Can-Can was seen as so risqué - it wasn't about seeing ankles.

Anything else was dealt with by a belt and cloth.
