OK I'll start by saying I've never really liked Oasis' songs but I think Noel is quite talented. I also like some of the stuff they've both done since Oasis. But whenever I see Liam perform either solo or with the band I can't help but wonder why people rate him so much? He just stands there with his hands behind his back (doesnt ge get neckache?) & hits a tambourine occasionally. He doesn't seem to have much stage presence. Happy to be proved wrong

@MorrisZapp, once upon a time I might have done. But I feel like I’ve heard all their most popular songs about 1000 times too many and I just don’t want to hear or sing them. For me it’s like hearing an ABBA song come on. ‘Urgh, not this again’.

I went to an all ABBA wedding once. Beyond tiresome.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 27/08/2024 16:46

Cocky charisma.

Waitingfordoggo · 27/08/2024 16:48

Oof fucking hell @MorrisZapp I’d have cringed my way through that.

Seasmoke · 27/08/2024 16:51

I used to live in South London and work in North London. My journey was spent listening to 'What's the Story Morning Glory' on repeat. As a result, I still know all the words to all the songs. My kids dread any Oasis song from that album coming on the radio as I sing the whole song word perfect ( but out of tune) all the way through! My DH hates them and calls them a Beatles tribute band.

InSpainTheRain · 27/08/2024 16:54

I think it's confidence. He knows he's good (in my view bloody good!) but only does stuff if he wants to. I think they are amazingly talented and I'm really looking forward to hearing what they do in 2025.

Oh dear god. Caught by the lights at the Nativity Play 🤣

She's OK. At least she looks happy to be there 🤣

I think they were one of those bands that had huge appeal because they had a little bit of what everyone liked- especially on the 2nd album, which is when all the kids in school who thought I was weird for not liking pop and dance, suddenly decided guitar music was the way forward, thus rendering oasis mainstream and therefore not cool. The year they played Reading wrecked Reading for me. Reading was the alternative one, and suddenly a load of twats in bucket hats descended.

However, I have fond memories of being 14 and listening to cigarettes and alcohol in about 94, and of oasis being a gateway band to the music I went on to listen to.

And I'm enjoying all the middle aged (my age!) Men on fb fretting about whether some young girl who only likes one song, is going to get the ticket that's rightfully theirs.

"Put your fooking 'ands in the air and make some fooking noise" maybe

😂😂

I understand that but I'd say that to have charisma you need to actually move around the stage, not just stand there? Even musicians with guitars or other instruments come away from the mic for a bit to actually engage with the audience

Neil Tennant (Pet Shop Boys) does not move that much around the stage. He still hold the audience in his hand and tours around the world.

I don't want to link to The Mail, but if you google the black and white photos of Noel and Liam together from a recent photo-shoot, it'll be pretty obvious why he's a good frontman. He's amazingly charismatic and photogenic!

JanefromLondon1 · 27/08/2024 16:17

He's nothing like Mick Jagger. Young Mick Jagger was sexy, Liam would leave a dirty ashtray and an empty pint glass next to the bed and fuck off as soon as he came. Young Mick would have kept you up all night and you wouldn't have cared what he left behind.

I think he's vile. (Liam)

He’d expect you to thank him for the shag as well

Onwardsandsidewaysyetagain · 27/08/2024 17:21

He also looks a bit contemptuous of everyone which is also thrilling. Liam looks like just some bloke down the pub by comparison, bit unfair, life is unfair.

Funkyslippers · 27/08/2024 18:13

I just watched a video on YouTube of him singing Live Forever. Bloody hell, he looks and sounds terrible (imo)

The second most boring band I’ve ever seen live - sadly

I saw them at Loch Lomond and it was fab, only marred by the fact that a crew member had sadly fallen and was fatally injured while setting up. 😔

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 27/08/2024 18:22

He always said ‘I’m not a dancer and I’m a singer. I’ll look stupid dancing about’. That’s not a quote but that’s the kind of thing he used to say. When I was 14 I wanted to marry him lol. I think he’s great!

needhelpwiththisplease · 27/08/2024 16:29

Luck.
He was lucky his brother let him be the singer in his band.
He has zero charisma
No stage presence
And can barley hold a tune these days

Liam was in the band before Noel. Granted they wouldn’t have got famous without Noel’s talent but Liam joined them first. Noel learnt to play the guitar because he was under a curfew from being in trouble with the law

I thought they were great when i saw them but it's all subjective .

Footyfandango · 27/08/2024 18:32

@TheLizardQueen agree he is a great frontsman.
Seen them 4 times, great live. I am a Manc and the no nonsense just effin sing resonates well with me. I think you will see just how much he appeals Sat when the tickets go on sale. Just bloody hate getting home from Heaton Park.
Each to their own, but give me Liam over someone who does frequent costume changes such as Beyonce etc, as I said just effin sing

I saw them at the Reebok stadium ,late 90,s they were great imo but they also remind me of my youth wonderwall takes me right back to the mid 90,s and going clubbing in Manchester

tennesseewhiskey1 · 27/08/2024 18:38

He’s a great singer - can you sing OP? He’s basically got ‘it’

And Jarvis Cocker.

Yeah he was amazing live i saw him at at the Heineken festival in roundhey Park in 1995 they headlined ,best of all it was a,free festival!

Iloveshihtzus · 27/08/2024 18:42

What a snobby thread. I’ve always loved them, maybe because I’m Irish and they remind me of my cousins in Manchester. But of course, we’re probably coarse ‘chavs’ to you 🙄🙄
