Aibu to wonder what makes Liam Gallagher a good frontman?

OK I'll start by saying I've never really liked Oasis' songs but I think Noel is quite talented. I also like some of the stuff they've both done since Oasis. But whenever I see Liam perform either solo or with the band I can't help but wonder why people rate him so much? He just stands there with his hands behind his back (doesnt ge get neckache?) & hits a tambourine occasionally. He doesn't seem to have much stage presence. Happy to be proved wrong

I don’t think either of the Gallagher brothers have anything to recommend them.

I loved Oasis back in the day - saw them live twice. And both times came away thinking "meh". Liam is shite live.

Similar here, I saw them at Knebworth and they weren't even the best thing there. The prodigy were awesome and I don't even particularly like them as a band.

Yeah, he's quite funny these days. I remember Noel on the One Show being interviewed by Ronan Keating, who he used to take the piss out of back in the day! They chatted like old friends

Yes I've seen so many bands that I'm not really a fan of, including the Prodigy, and they've been electric

But they'll have to practise together.

What standing behind a microphone with your arms behind your back ?

That'll take all of 20 seconds.

He might want to build up some neck muscles in the gym though.

ItsZa · 27/08/2024 16:23

It's not him that makes him have stage presence it's the music. However unimpressed you are with Liam as a person the music is good.

GasPanic · 27/08/2024 16:08

Maybe one of them will be a robot.

Or they will perform on opposite ends of the stage. Never acknowledge each other and walk off into different changing rooms. Never to meet in person.

They've already met in person and done a photoshoot. The photographer said they were laughing and joking with each other

I seem to know a lot about 2 people I don't even like much 🤣

Charisma. Whether you like him or not, he has it. He grabs attention, and it isn’t just by being a loudmouth.

Is he a technically good singer? No, but his voice is distinct and works perfectly for Oasis. Some of the most renowned frontmen and women in bands aren’t ‘good’ singers.

GiveMeSpanakopita · 27/08/2024 15:45

He's not a good frontman. Brett Anderson of Suede - now there's a good frontman, if we're talking 90s britpop bands. Honourable mentions too to Skin from Skunk Anansie, Sonya from Echobelly and Damon Albarn on a good night.

And Jarvis Cocker.

needhelpwiththisplease · 27/08/2024 16:29

Luck.
He was lucky his brother let him be the singer in his band.
He has zero charisma
No stage presence
And can barley hold a tune these days

GiveMeSpanakopita · 27/08/2024 16:29

Waitingfordoggo · 27/08/2024 16:25

And Jarvis Cocker.

I left him out deliberately because I personally never thought his stage presence was very good. Brilliant lyricist and social commentator mind. Really captured the working class experience of the 80s, specifically. The areas that Thatcherism left behind. Brilliant, brillaint writer.

And how does Jarvis pronounce the word 'sunshine', may I enquire?

Tabitha005 · 27/08/2024 16:32

I never thought Liam was a 'good' frontman. I think it helped that the whole imagined Blur vs. Oasis tabloid circus sort of pitched Blur's chirpy cheeriness against the moodiness of Oasis.

Waitingfordoggo · 27/08/2024 16:33

I’ve never got Oasis. Not then and not now. I think both brothers are arrogant twats and I don’t rate the music at all. Absolute yawnfest. But they’re obviously extremely popular so there’s something there I just don’t get.

I like a frontman/woman to move around a bit and engage with the crowd. I think that’s the least they can do really when people have paid good money to be there. At least pretend you’re enjoying yourself (or if that’s too much bother, maybe go and get a job which doesn’t involve being public facing 😂)

This with bells on 🤣

If I had a phonetic keyboard, I’d have a go at writing it 😂

If you're two drinks or more deep on a night out and Don't Look Back in Anger comes on, you're saying you don't join in with the singing?

Waitingfordoggo · 27/08/2024 16:36

@GiveMeSpanakopita, absolutely agree with your comments on Jarvis as a lyricist. He’s a poet! I’ve always enjoyed his stage presence too but maybe that’s just because I fancied him 😂 His quirky movements and sudden leaps were interesting to watch, for me.

YoghurtPotWashingMachine · 27/08/2024 16:37

It's subjective, but I don't know how anyone can say Sonya from Echobelly was a good frontwoman!

Oh dear god. Caught by the lights at the Nativity Play 🤣

Waitingfordoggo · 27/08/2024 16:39

@MorrisZapp, once upon a time I might have done. But I feel like I’ve heard all their most popular songs about 1000 times too many and I just don’t want to hear or sing them. For me it’s like hearing an ABBA song come on. ‘Urgh, not this again’.

DataPup · 27/08/2024 16:39

Pulp live around 1998 are in my top 10 of band performances. Jarvis was an amazing front man.

BabaYetu · 27/08/2024 16:41

The students at Reading/Leeds seemed to have a good time. DC said he was great.

Personally I think he's a total knob, but I admit the man's got plenty of swagger.

TheLizardQueen · 27/08/2024 16:43

They don’t hate each other anymore, they started talking when Noel’s wife left him… his wife and Liam hated each other. They’ve both been speaking highly of each other recently too. I have seen Oasis many times, as well as Liam and Noel separately. Liam is a fantastic frontman. He doesn’t need to move around, people just want to watch him sing.
