AIBU to wear secondhand knickers?

RedVelvetGazpacho · 20/08/2024 15:12

Obviously only after washing them for a long time at a high temperature. They don't have any stains on them.

YABU - yes, that's disgusting, put them in textile recycling and go to M&S
YANBU - no, they're no different from any other secondhand clothes

Personal view - an absolute no for me. I would rather go commando.

murasaki · 20/08/2024 15:14

I wouldn't, but you raise fair points that make me think why not. And then I get the ick again, sorry.

WhatNoRaisins · 20/08/2024 15:14

It's probably fine but I wouldn't want to do it myself. Do I even want to know how you've come to own them? I usually keep mine until they have holes and are only fit for rag.

KreedKafer · 20/08/2024 15:16

There's no rational reason why this wouldn't be OK.

I still wouldn't, personally, but that's purely irrational on my part. Hygiene-wise, if they've been washed at a high temperature, there's no actual risk.

Tradewipe · 20/08/2024 15:16

I have bought and worn second hand knickers from jumble sales. They were amazing psychedelic 60s/70s ones though. Probably had a few from charity shops over the years as well.
I think it’s fine as long as you give them a good wash, but I think I’m in the minority.

henlake7 · 20/08/2024 15:16

well, as long as you've washed them!

Personally I wouldnt, does give me the ick rather, but if its a super expensive brand you wouldnt otherwise spend the money on and you're happy then go live your best life!😄

(however if its just Primark then what are you doing, you minger!!)😂

Werweisswohin · 20/08/2024 15:18

It's one of the few things I won't buy second hand unless in a sealed pack and clearly unworn.
I wouldn't judge anyone who had no other option though, if was somehow made aware of the situation.

Highlighta · 20/08/2024 15:21

People buy and sell swimwear all the time and they seem to sell okay as I have seen a lot on 2nd hand sites. So I'm not sure why bikinis get the nod and underwear doesn't. Bra's seem to sell as well.

I've never bought nor sold 2nd hand underwear myself though, mine wouldn't be fit for use as I wear them until they are worn out.

IDontLoveTheWayYouLie · 20/08/2024 15:22

I wouldn't but I don't wear pants half the time anyway.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 20/08/2024 15:22

Nope, not for me

WhatNoRaisins · 20/08/2024 15:22

Admittedly I wear most things until worn out as I'm not the most fashion conscious person.

Beth216 · 20/08/2024 15:25

I've bought the odd underwear item off ebay but generally I only wear M and S. If you don't see it as an issue though then it's not like you have to go round telling everyone.

Mycatisashit · 20/08/2024 15:27

I wouldn’t.

When I’m processing returns at work I hate re packing underwear. I had no idea people could return undies to a shop until I started working at one!

DrinkElephants · 20/08/2024 15:27

I wouldn’t but I think if they’re properly cleaned at a high temperature it’s fine but it’s the thought of someone else wearing them that’s giving me ewww

itsgettingweird · 20/08/2024 15:27

I haven't but not necessarily because I wouldn't.

It's just because it's so easy to buy a pack of 5 from the supermarket for £5!

I guess if you want designer or nice lingerie type ones it's a cheaper option?

gano · 20/08/2024 15:27

I have done, but only because my sister had bought some really expensive and beautiful knickers but she found them uncomfortable. She asked if I wanted them. I don't think I'd want to wear second hand knickers that had belonged to someone I didn't know though.

I wouldn’t wear a second hand bra or swimsuit either personally

If they are an expensive brand, you probably wouldn't be able to wash them on a high temperature, though.
I could probably manage to borrow a pair from a family member in an emergency. But not from a stranger as irrational as it may seem .

TheFlis · 20/08/2024 15:34

Who even sells them second hand? Never seen them in a charity shop.

newfriend05 · 20/08/2024 15:36

No just no , and knickers are a pound in primark, so why would you

Mudflaps · 20/08/2024 15:42

I wish someone would use second hand underwear as I have bags of really nice sets in my attic, all clean and in excellent condition and I do t want to dump but I'll never fit into them again.

Myfavouriteflowers · 20/08/2024 15:43

I wouldn't wear second hand underwear or swimwear. As other pp have said, for no logical reason.
I wouldn't wear second hand shoes either but at least there is a logical reason for that because they potentially harm your feet.

OhmygodDont · 20/08/2024 15:44

Nope. Never ever ever.

Like you don’t know that person or their hygiene or anything. Eugh feel gross just reading it tbh.

Socks is the line I draw in the sense that it’s a free for all for socks in our house but only in our house. I still wouldn’t wear or buy a strangers socks.

id rather go commando than wear someone else’s worn pants. I wouldn’t even want to wear dhs boxes 🤣

dbeuowlxb173939 · 20/08/2024 15:45

No I just couldn't even though logically they would be fine after disinfecting

longdistanceclaraclara · 20/08/2024 15:45

No thanks.
