to report this to the police, even though I am technically implicating myself?

My local park is locked overnight and isn’t opened until 6am. It’s a huge park but in one area part of the fence is missing so I squeeze through and go into the park to walk my dog at 4am (he is an XL bully so I like to go the park when nobody is about)

The last few mornings when I have been walking round by the pond there have been a couple of men sitting on the benches next to the pond “feeding the ducks”. I noticed they have black bin liners next to them too. I’m pretty sure I recognise these men from working in a takeaway restaurant.

I am concerned they are trying to catch ducks. I hope i’m wrong, but I just can’t see why two adult men would sit feeding the ducks at 4am?! Especially as the park is officially closed and they have bin liners next to them.

AIBU to report this to the police, even though I’ll be implicating myself too?

What would you be reporting, exactly? Confused

Suspicious behaviour and potentially stealing ducks?

Well it does sound a bit dodgy.
Before reporting anything, I'd be going back to the park without dog to observe them more closely.

nonmerci99 · 10/08/2024 15:30

This is some next level busybody behaviour. I’d think you were just as dodgy as them if I saw you both in a park at 4 am. 😂

If you're serious on reporting them why don't you observe them for a short time and see what they're doing, rather than making assumptions. If they run a takeaway they might have a bag of bread to feed them for all you know. Takeaways in my area are open to early hours of the morning so I expect by the time they've cleaned down and left 4am would also not be an unreasonable time for this. Not that I'd bother mind you 🤣

Butchyrestingface · 10/08/2024 15:32

Imagine what they think of you walking a restricted breed associated with multiple deaths round the park on your lonesome at 4am. 😀

murasaki · 10/08/2024 15:33

They probably are thinking that you are dodgy and are walking an illegal unregistered dog. Horses for courses, innit.

Cas112 · 10/08/2024 15:33

Potentially stealing ducks.. this has really made me laugh 😂

I honestly don't think your report will get taken seriously. Even if it is happening or not

Babbahabba · 10/08/2024 15:34

I can’t stand XL bullies but that is my opinion. OP didn’t ask you for your opinions on her dog

Surely this makes me a responsible XL bully owner? As i’m walking him at 4am when the park is closed, therefore it’s on private property?

Count the ducks tomorrow. Count them the next day. If any are missing report them.

Onelifeonly · 10/08/2024 15:35

You can't report people for having black bags and feeding ducks! You should have hidden in the bushes and spied on them to get evidence 😜.

The police would have no interest in you trespassing in a park before opening hours either.

What if one is not in the pond and out of site?😂

BobbyBiscuits · 10/08/2024 15:36

Is there a park keepers hut, or park keeper that's there regularly during the day?
If so could you speak to them, ask them if they know how many ducks are there and if any have been going missing lately? Then describe what you saw. They'd probably be the ones to do something or care if it's their job to keep an eye on the ducks and their area.
Even if they weren't stealing them, most parks have signs that says not to feed the ducks as bread is bad for them. So they should be told what you witnessed.
You don't need to say exactly what time you were there. If you have to make an excuse you could say your dog ran through the hole and towards the duckpond, and you followed him to get him under control.

rwalker · 10/08/2024 15:36

there more likely to be dumping food waste than stealing ducks

You know ducks can fly, right?

Skaer · 10/08/2024 15:37

Yabu you haven’t seen them do anything wrong.

Gotabadfeelingaboutthis · 10/08/2024 15:37

I think you could report it but it would be unlikely that they would do much unless you've actually witnessed them stealing ducks.

Branster · 10/08/2024 15:38

But if they are wild ducks, who's property are they? Who are they stealing from?
It's not like swans.
They probably feed them with leftovers from the shop at the end of their shift and must be wondering what is this weird person doing walking a dog at 4PM through a locked up park.
Next time, be there an hour earlier and observe the going ons: 2 tired men entering the park through a gap in the fence with bin liners full of leftover bread.

Min133 · 10/08/2024 15:39

Surely this is a joke post right?! I've wasted a good few mins sitting here wondering how easy it'd be to catch a duck 😂 I can't image it'd be very easy. Perhaps you could let them borrow your dog l, that'd do it 🤷‍♀️

What proof do you have except your over-active imagination?

Two men sitting on a bench with some bin bags aren't doing anything wrong Confused

Stealing ducks? Why would you think that? It’s a very odd conclusion to jump to.
