To miss my more youthful vulva

I did not expect this bit of ageing at all (esp as I don't have kids so nothing controversial has ever really happened down there)

But I miss it feeling moister and bouncier and just generally more resilient and upbeat

And I miss not needing to pee every half hour

And then when you do pee it feels like there's more to come

Feel quite bummed out (was going to do a front bum pun but decided too shudder) to contemplate the next four decades with a buzzkill down there

Pelvic floor exercises are very tedious. Does being on top and doing all the work exercise the pelvic floor or is it totally different muscles used in each case?

Pelvic floor exercises are super tedious. But having just had prolapse surgery, I wish to god I'd found out how to do them properly years ago and stuck with it. I might not be lying on the sofa with stitches in my perineum if I had.

Women - do your kegels and if you don't know how, look for a pelvic physio locally and spend the money on a session to find out.

And no, the Scottish pelvic floor comedians advice is not enough(can't think of her name) . Just squeezing your bum hole is not sufficient.

I used to be able to squeeze DH when we had sex. Within a few years I couldn't even feel anything when I had sex. Do them every day.

I think I'm going them but not sure if I'm doing them right!!

I remember reading about one where you imagine rolling a marble up and down?

It does smell! Not unpleasant. Like a mild beery/yeasty scent.

I've never ever smelt with thrush. But I believe you, everyone is different! For me it's the insane and painful itching and not being able to sit down properly.

Yeah the itch is awful.

Oh I find the old fashioned chalky pessaries are a million times more effective than the gel pessaries. And the orals do fuck all unless you take three in a row.

Droolylabradors · 08/08/2024 10:49

Also - get the pessaries and oral tabs off amazon, SO much cheaper.

OptimismvsRealism · 08/08/2024 10:35

Oh thanks!! Do you use it every day?

I use it every time I have a wee, so lots! There is a tub next to the loo.
You can get it at the Chemist, around £10. I can't believe the difference it's made.

@Zebedee999 I try to make pelvic floor exercises more fun by, for example, if someone at work uses particular annoying cliches I do 5 or 10 clenches (10 for 'low hanging fruit' , or if I stop at a red light, or if I'm on a bus and the doors open and close, I open and close. Or even if I see a caravan on the motorway. It sounds so childish but any way these things can be gamified helps me..

That is a really good idea. I get it, thanks.

Chellybelle · 08/08/2024 10:52

Just call it a vagina. No one needs a moist vulva. In fact it should be kept clean and dry to avoid external skin infections. I think people on here are so keen to overuse that word. The vulva refers to the outside part only.

Justwrong68 · 08/08/2024 10:54

Echoing others here. Vagifem suppositories, pelvic floor exercises and getting fit. I couldn't believe the difference when I started going for short runs, it stopped bladder accidents. I'm 56.

The skin outside the vagina shouldn't be dry

Trust me it makes a difference

Sitting here with my dry and uncomfortable labia like thanks for the bad anatomy lesson

I miss my more youthful everything: boobs, knees, calves, ankles, bum, neck/jowls, the list goes on. Thanks to your post, I’m now adding vulva to my list… 😂

Vulva atrophy definitely exists! Natural moisturiser dries up and it becomes very dry, cracks and bleeds. It's very painful. I think most of us know the difference between our vagina and vulvar.. .

beenpole · 08/08/2024 10:57

I just want the plump, happy, nice vulva I used to have, and the tight, comfortable, cushioning vagina I used to have when I could stumble over a paving stone and not slightly wee, and not this awful papery stringy dry feeling inside and out!

Yeah I think people don't realise how things go until it happens to them - I had no clue :(

Yeah me too. It's true what they say about enjoying things while you can because these are the good old days.

Get some vaginally oestrogen cream

SnowFrogJelly · 08/08/2024 11:02

I haven't noticed any difference!

aladderformoths · 08/08/2024 11:04

Pigeonqueen · 08/08/2024 09:21

Vagifem - but you can also get Ovestin which I think is better as it’s a cream that you can use internally and externally (it comes with an applicator you use to use it internally). Both are forms of low dose oestrogen.

Thsnks

Haven’t read the thread. The title alone is 🤮

growgrowinggrown · 08/08/2024 11:07

I am so sorry this might be TMI, but those of you using the gels saying that it helps massively...
Does it affect the smell / taste? 😳
I can't imagine how it would be to then have sex /oral whilst using the gels and if that would be massively noticeable to a partner.
I've struggled along for a while having some quite painful sex, even with lube, but my GP is useless unfortunately.

SaintHonoria · 08/08/2024 11:13

Mine doesn't look or feel any different now that I'm older and I'm considerably older and have been through the menopause (no HRT) well over a decade ago.

I'd see a GP in case there is something wrong.

Really hope the answer doesn't lie in quitting sugar, coffee and alcohol

Annoyingly, the answer to fucking everything is this and it's not gonna happen.
