Phrases you hate

Mine is ‘buttery soft’…If you haven’t come across this phrase, it is mainly used when describing leggings or other clothes, but now I’ve even seen it being used to describe gold jewellery! Also butter isn't that soft…Margariney soft doesn’t have the same ring to it I suppose.. Anyone else?

OP posts:

Makes my teeth itch.

🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢

(Only ever seen it used on here though!)

StSwithinsDay · 05/08/2024 22:30

Your bubz. Your rulz.

RabbitsRock · 05/08/2024 22:30

To be fair drives me up the wall! I had to go to hospital once & the paramedics said it nearly every other word!

'Were pregnant". Argh!!!!!

Also not a phrase buy i hate the overuse of 'myself' by people trying to sound formal, when I or me is actually perfectly adequate.

FlamingWheelieBinofDespair · 05/08/2024 22:33

The “ick”

SaintHonoria · 05/08/2024 22:34

This too shall pass. Used by people who haven't a clue how to help someone who has problems but they feel smug by trotting out this tired old phrase.

Be kind. Used by people who are anything but kind.

HappyMum123456 · 05/08/2024 22:34

Another vote for reach out.

i bloody hate it.

DH said today he’s planning to “reach out” to the boys about an upcoming stag do 😬 It seems even worse when it’s used outside of a corporate context.

AdviceNeeded2024 · 05/08/2024 22:35

‘Showcasing’ when used constantly by tabloids…

(insert celebrity name) showcasing her figure

InsolentNoise · 05/08/2024 22:36

sammylady37 · 05/08/2024 22:22

Ooh I’ve remembered another one: on my period or I’m on/due on. Why don’t people just say “I have my period”?. Saying ‘on’ doesn’t make sense in this context.

Yes! Drives me mad 😂

RabbitsRock · 05/08/2024 22:36

WickieRoy “ can I get” is how Americans ask for things.

RabbitsRock · 05/08/2024 22:40

Curated

Epicaricacy · 05/08/2024 22:41

that doesn't cost the earth.

cheeky sod expecting everything for nothing. It cost what it cost, you pay for the skills, time and material. if you want cheap, buy in a supermarket

UnNiddeRides · 05/08/2024 22:43

Confusing use of present tense. E.g ‘so, I’m staying at my Mils abroad & she wants to take my LO to the town hall to register his birth. This doesn’t sit right with me’. Answers recommend returning home immediately, crossing the nearest border, then the OP then posts that she’s already home with no indication of how long ago this happened.

Charlize43 · 05/08/2024 22:43

'Girl Power'

Especially knowing it was created by Simon Fuller & a bunch of male record execs to sell five mediocre female singers to twelve year old girls.

Whenyoupickapawpaw · 05/08/2024 22:43

Boy done good

Wigtopia · 05/08/2024 22:43

I have a few:

Adverts that state “we’ve got you”. Really makes me irrationally irritated!! 🫣

people saying they or others are turning round to say something. “So then i turned round and told him…” “then he turned round to me and…”

also “at the end of the day..”

coronafiona · 05/08/2024 22:44

"My self" instead of me. "If you have any further queries feel free to contact myself" .
It's just incorrect. And stupid.

RabbitsRock · 05/08/2024 22:45

Work well as a team instead of work well as part of a team

SantasRubiksCube · 05/08/2024 22:45

Makes me feel angry when people describe their pets as their 'fur babies/fur babes'
Also can't stand preggers or preggo, even saw a thread on here the other day with preggy.

UnNiddeRides · 05/08/2024 22:45

Also tween. What is a tween? A child between birth & 13?

I’m with you on this! Also hate it when people refer to me as my dog’s mummy. I certainly am not her mum !

it's a "pre-teen". I never use the word, but it does make sense to make a difference between a 5 year old child and an 11 year old starting secondary school.

Coughsweet · 05/08/2024 22:48

Hot choc - especially in the context of Christmas Eve boxes

Called out - piss off, you’re probably the one talking shite not the original speaker

The usual “picky bits” which frankly should come with a health warning, I can’t believe anyone thinks it’s socially acceptable to use that phrase

Could not agree more about about “buttery soft”.
I don’t even understand what is so good about leggings that feel all melty slimy sofr?

Epicaricacy · 05/08/2024 22:48

"booby" as in my dress is too booby

"boil my piss"
