Supposed to be going to London this weekend with DM to watch a show, staying for one night. Are there currently riots in London or is it likely to have stopped by the weekend? Our hotel is very close to the Tower of London not sure if that makes any difference.

I'm in London and haven't seen any sign of riots.

Frostycottagegarden · 05/08/2024 17:21

There could be riots anywhere. I can't see the point of changing your plans. I'm not.

Allfur · 05/08/2024 17:21

The tower of london is the gathering spot

Immemorialelms · 05/08/2024 17:21

There are no riots in London, especially near the Tower of London! It's a touristy area.

anicecuppateaa · 05/08/2024 17:22

same as @spirit20, I am on the train home from work (having been to/ from London bridge and walked to/ from Liverpool Street) and have seen no riots/ unrest. I am taking my dc to London tomorrow.

I would go to the theatre.

NicoleSkidman · 05/08/2024 17:22

No more riots than usual in sunny London. Absolutely no reason to cancel your trip.

Immemorialelms · 05/08/2024 17:22

Less likely to have riots in London because it hasn't been systematically disadvantaged for 40 years, people have jobs, and we also see the point of multicultural life here.

Posing · 05/08/2024 17:23

I am in London. Believe me there are no riots at all!

Westnorwood · 05/08/2024 17:23

I think you’ll be fine. I live here any haven’t heard of anything. I’d happily take my toddler around the Tower of London

NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoBy · 05/08/2024 17:25

London is currently the safest town in the UK I'd say

Ginmonkeyagain · 05/08/2024 17:26

Dude there are no riots in London. A few hundred bellends gathered outside Downing st last week. TBF shouty bellends of all stripes regularly gather outside Downing street most days.

London is also massive. I have been happily and safely (and often obliviously) going about my business in London when there have been all manner of protests and riots going on (the exception being 2011 when the Tescos next to my flat was trashed and looted 😬 )

loudbatperson · 05/08/2024 17:26

You'll be fine, it's mainly northern towns/cities suffering. Although yes there are outbreaks down south, London is not currently showing on the target lists, as far as I have seen.

We are carrying on as normal.

Ace56 · 05/08/2024 17:28

What? Why would there be riots in London?

loudbatperson · 05/08/2024 17:30

I will say I do understand your worry though, my husband and I are meant to be going away for a couples weekend this coming weekend, but we are reconsidering it, although not sure yet. Near to where we had planned to go had issues at the weekend, so it is off putting.

Staying here in London feels a lot safer and calmer than most places.

OneTC · 05/08/2024 17:32

I'm about 5 minutes away from where a "riot" happened in London (Whitechapel) and didn't notice.

Beezknees · 05/08/2024 17:34

Stop being ridiculous. Go.

The tower of london is the gathering spot

😂👏

Totallymessed · 05/08/2024 17:37

I'm currently in Bethnal Green, and everything is fine, doesn't feel tense at all. (hopefully it will remain like this...).

NinetyNineRedBalloonsGoBy · 05/08/2024 17:25

London is currently the safest town in the UK I'd say

I'm not sure about that....

Newgirls · 05/08/2024 17:40

packed with locals, tourists, workers etc London is buzzing and brilliant at the moment / you’ll be fine and have a great time

Mummadeze · 05/08/2024 17:41

Am in South West London and thought all the riots are up North? Not seen or heard anything around here

youve987456 · 05/08/2024 17:43

Definitely do not cancel going to London. I live in London and nothing is happening here. Staying by the tower of London you're right by the city and I can tell you right now that the city workers would not be having any of this bullshit and the city of london police would shut it down immediately. Even if there was a small gathering of these idiots, chances are you wouldn't see it. I lived half a mile from one of the 2011 riot locations and didn't see or hear a thing.
Please come and enjoy this wonderful city without a second thought.

PuppyMonkey · 05/08/2024 17:45

Crikey, I’m going on Sunday too and it never entered my head there might be rioting in Covent Garden tbh.

Globetrote · 05/08/2024 17:45

If there were riots in London the media would be there like a shot, like they are anywhere else on the country.

Why do some non-Londoners think the streets are like a perpetual war zone.

PuppyMonkey · 05/08/2024 17:45

Btw are you seeing Guys n Dolls OP? It’s amazing. Wink
