Supposed to be going to London this weekend with DM to watch a show, staying for one night. Are there currently riots in London or is it likely to have stopped by the weekend? Our hotel is very close to the Tower of London not sure if that makes any difference.

@bouncingboundless

Which show do you have tickets for, OP?

99problemsandthetimeis1 · 05/08/2024 19:00

Londoner here. The only chatter I’ve heard is re up in North London and police are aware, so if the protest goes ahead, they will be in attendance.

Come to London.

edwinbear · 05/08/2024 19:02

I live in SE London, been in the office in central London all day, not a sniff of a riot. Obviously keep an eye on the news, but at the moment, it’s very much BAU.

bouncingboundless · 05/08/2024 19:04

@TheSquareMile we are seeing the lion king

I'm not sure about that....

Name a safer?

Lentilweaver · 05/08/2024 19:06

I am a brown Londoner near the Tower of London and going about my business as usual, as are my DC. Not going to let those twats win.

You’re fine

WhereAreWeNow · 05/08/2024 19:08

No trouble in London

Ponoka7 · 05/08/2024 19:10

I agree that London is one of the safer places to be. The two-four year sentences, lack of bail, even for the under 18s and charges for those who are just attending, given today are going to make people think twice.

You will enjoy it, I've heard good things from people who have been.

If you are staying near the Tower, jump on the number 15 bus at the Tower and get off at Aldwych/Drury Lane (paying with your bank card, no cash on London buses). You will be near the Lyceum at that point.

Boxina · 05/08/2024 19:13

I was in London on Saturday, everything was fine.

EasternStandard · 05/08/2024 19:13

London feels calm atm

mustwashmycurtains · 05/08/2024 19:14

OP in case it helps a couple of weeks ago in central London whilst with my DC and another friend (9 year olds) we came out of a gallery and unwittingly walked straight into a protest with shouting and a dozen police vans emptying police onto the street to control it. Even in the midst of the noise it was super easy to slip away from the main road and get the children out of the mayhem. Central London is full of little side streets - especially where you are going to see the Lion King - and if somehow you were unlucky enough to see anything at all (you really wont' be) the protesters won't be targeting children and you will always be able to disappear down the small side streets. No need to worry. Also, central London is one of the safer places to be, as there is always such a large police presence there anyway. Enjoy the play!

Bonjovispjs · 05/08/2024 19:25

I live in London and everything is fine.

The Lion King is brilliant.

SocksAndTheCity · 05/08/2024 19:27

I haven't seen Lion King in London, but I saw it in Paris years ago and it was fantastic.

Second the 15 bus recommendation (front seat on top deck if you can get it) Smile

Btw are you seeing Guys n Dolls OP? It’s amazing. Wink

May I ask you - having seen the performance - which side/s would have the best view? I would go for front row of the stalls - but there are 4 sides so I don’t which one would be best?

Mirabai · 05/08/2024 19:50

Oh yes, I’m a Londoner, all quiet on the western front.

doublecappuccino · 05/08/2024 19:56

In London. We are baking and exchanging cakes and biscuits in our street. Made sure we have all checked in on each other too but honestly nothing but kindness and shock at what we are watching .
Don't cancel! Hope you have a lovely weekend xx

Londoner here, all is calm through we are sucking our teeth at antics up north.

Immersive is great if you dont mind standing! I think all 4 sides are good though. Seen it twice. Brilliant.

Whitewolf2 · 05/08/2024 20:46

We visited the Tower of London with our young dc yesterday, it was a lovely day out, no signs of any issues. Given that area is so touristy I’d imagine it wouldn’t be a popular area for riots, not many interesting shops to loot there!

SherbetSweeties · 05/08/2024 20:48

For once it's not London that's rioting. I live here its fine.

JanefromLondon1 · 05/08/2024 20:51

Went yesterday and didn't see any riots at all.
