Let’s rephrase that. An organization that actively put a woman in an enclosed space with a man for him to knock seven bells out of her.

Where are the progressives and liberals now? They seem to have a lot to say about rights. Just not those of women, then.

Women are welcome to compete. Especially if they wear something skimpy.

The IOC has deliberately manoeuvred the situation so that males were able to infiltrate women’s boxing. That by itself is proof they hate women, but all the other things you mention support that conclusion too. Despicable m and hardly likely to inspire our future female Olympians
For a very useful breakdown regarding the boxing there’s an excellent thread here:

The boxer that everyone is upset about isn't a man. They are intersex. Completely different. They are not, and have never been trans, or male. They were born biologically with female genitalia. They do tend to have more testosterone., but not much else different. But mumsnet loves to get upset over trans issues so I'm not surprised about the misinformation.

Please stop repeating this lie, there is no evidence that this is a woman with a DSD. The boxer themselves could prove this and put the whole thing to bed, they’ve chosen not to. The IOC ‘s eligibility qualifiers seems to be purely based on an F in their passport, which we know men can get.

Dont you ever stop and ask yourself, where are all the men with DSDs in the mens competitions? Why is it always the womens? Why are they always winning?

I agree OP, the arrogance displayed by the IOC over this issue also tells me that think they’re above being challenged.

The Olympics should be amazing for girls and women - a chance to see how strong and dedicated and courageous women can be, great role models, exciting competition.

But I just feel it's all soured.

There is no third sex. We are all either male or female but some people have DSDs which can result in a misleading understanding of sex as observed at birth. However, puberty often reveals sex and if you’d like a short explanation of the most likely situation with the boxers I recommend Dr Emma Hilton, a developmental biologist, on this topic. Her tweet is a clear, concise explanation

'Van de Velde's inclusion in the Dutch team has been criticised by women's and safeguarding groups.
He is not staying in the Olympic village and will not do any post-match media.
There was extra security around him when he arrived in Paris with the rest of the team.
In previous interviews with Dutch media, Van de Velde said: "I can't reverse it, so I will have to bear the consequences. It has been the biggest mistake of my life."

I expect his victim also resents having to bear the consequences of his 'mistake'.

My understanding is that the boxer is not trans and was born a women. Noone seems to know why the IBA banned her but I think it was mid tournament which is dodgy. Also the headquarters of the iba is in Russia and she had beaten a Russian opponent. Unbelievable that a poster thinks she should give details of her medical history to prove herself too. It just shows how toxic some people on MN are.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/08/2024 11:32

Your "understanding" is based on what you've read online from other Wot I Reckoners (like everyone else here) because no one knows what condition(s) the two boxers have. No one is saying the boxers are "trans". Most women on FWR know what DSDs are because it's the number one gotcha argument by trans rights activists.

The IOC clearly gives no fucks about the almost certain retraumatisation of van de veldes victim by their actions. She was 12. It's active support for paedophilia.

There will also be a non paedophile athlete who will have been excluded due to his inclusion.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/08/2024 11:34

The IBA, whether you believe them or not, have stated that they disqualified both for failing gender tests. They define gender in terms of chromosomes, not self identification or testosterone levels.

I only read newspapers. I just said noone knows what conditions they have. That is the point. All we know is they have always been considered female and were banned by a Russian led organisation and that they didn't do a testosterone test.

The IBA did sex verification tests that they say revealed XY chromosomes.

The IBA have said several times both boxers failed two sex tests, these boxers could do cheek swabs now to prove they're female. They haven't done so. Neither boxer challenged the IBAs decision which they had he right to do via an independent body. So they accepted the IBA ruling.

The IBA have also said including these athletes is dangerous to women. The IOC clearly don't care about women's safety.

I hope if a woman is seriously injured or killed that the IOC officials who've ignored this clear warning plus the evidence, proving the IBA point, in Carinis match, will be held personally criminally responsible.

Indeed. It's only a matter of time until a woman is seriously injured.

The IBA statements are publicly available and very clear. They are the most authoritative information. The IOC has done no sex tests, they're basing inclusion on what's written on a piece of paper, which we all know can be changed quite easily and does not necessarily reflect reality. The BBC has chosen to repeat unverifiable conjecture rather than read out these statements, failing in their duty as a public broadcaster.

Sadly I think it might take a woman dying at this point. The misogyny is breathtaking.

protectourchildren · 03/08/2024 11:51

Doing a cheek swab is less intrusive than a COVID test ffs. Why won't these boxers just do this if they're female?

Over 80% of female athletes are in favour of cheek swab sex tests. Why won't the IOC do this given it's what women competitors want? Because they're institutionally misogynistic? They want to see women harmed?
