I did go to school, yes. Do you also have a prejudice against people who didn’t? Seems like you really don’t like people who lack your own privilege.

I would be much more embarrassed to be callously ripping an athlete I didn’t know to shreds on the internet because the argument somehow supports my transphobia.

The world is changing and I would also be worried if I were as transphobic as you 😊

👍

And incase it’s not clear, she’s not transgender!

No, he’s a man. If you struggle with basic biology, that’s your problem.

She was born female, lived the life of a female. Maybe you are a man too by your definition. Have you ever had a genetic test?

The IBA has categorically stated that it is not based on testosterone levels. Please give details of other "gender tests" which are done which aren't about chromosomes. The IBA rules state they base it on XY/XX.

They haven't said what tests they did or the exact results. Regardless, do you believe everything Russian led organizations say?

I've had two kids, does that count?

The IOC were quite happy taking what the IBA said as factual until last year, despite Russia being suspended from the olympics since 2019

BeyondOlympicLevelProcrastinator · 03/08/2024 16:09

Don't be silly arabella, no one knows their own genetics

My understanding is that the boxer is not trans and was born a women. Noone seems to know why the IBA banned her but I think it was mid tournament which is dodgy. Also the headquarters of the iba is in Russia and she had beaten a Russian opponent. Unbelievable that a poster thinks she should give details of her medical history to prove herself too. It just shows how toxic some people on MN are.

No. The opponent in that tournament was Bulgarian rather than Russian.

Her case is very clearly NOT a case of 'basic biology' It's at least intermediate biology.

BeyondOlympicLevelProcrastinator · 03/08/2024 16:33

Basic coverage of intersex (as was correct then) conditions was part of my GCSEs.

I don't believe everything most organisations say, largely due to their commitment to this nonsense.

The IBA stated it wasn't a testosterone test so it will have been a chromosome test. These two boxers were disqualified on that basis. If you know of any other tests, let's see the evidence.

They said it wasn't testosterone that ruled them ineligible, but a "gender test" (aka a Y chromosome in there somewhere)

However they also said they had been shown to have an advantage, which hints at them also having testosterone readings - as that it what would show a biological advantage.

Great clarification, thank you!

I find it very ironic that people on here are insisting she's a man when she (presumably) has a vulva.

He has a penis

The boxer that everyone is upset about isn't a man. They are intersex. Completely different. They are not, and have never been trans, or male. They were born biologically with female genitalia. They do tend to have more testosterone., but not much else different. But mumsnet loves to get upset over trans issues so I'm not surprised about the misinformation.

They are male with a DSD

AmusedMaker · 03/08/2024 16:54

There needs to be a boycott by women in sport.
something has to be done.

You might find this interesting as it addresses some of your claims. It's by Reduxx, who originally broke the story.

The Olympics should be amazing for girls and women - a chance to see how strong and dedicated and courageous women can be, great role models, exciting competition.

But I just feel it's all soured.

Exactly this

This is one of the largest Olympics for Irish athletes, male & female & instead of being able to celebrate our athletes & all their achievements it's just left a bad taste tbh

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/08/2024 17:15

'The European Vice President of the World Boxing Organization has come forward to confirm that Algerian boxer Imane Khelif is male. István Kovács says he warned the Olympic Committee about several male boxers in the women's category, but nothing was done'

You don't say Hmm
As for the UN suggesting sex testing be reintroduced, forget it; the IOC, already widely shown to be utterly corrupt, is now so captured by fashiobable theory that many feel they're no longer fit for purpose - though they're doubtless enjoying the frisson created by the backlash to their ridiculous decisions

EsmaCannonball · 03/08/2024 17:20

There was a press conference this morning which was so contemptuous towards anyone questioning the IOC policy on sex and inclusion and just so insulting to the intelligence that I have flounced. I've decided that the IOC is a corrupt, authoritarian, anti-women body and, until things change dramatically, the Olympics can get fucked.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 03/08/2024 17:29

Right, I’m going to spell it out for you supporters of these two blokes.

The people who delivered them thought they were girls because they had very small willies. Their balls were internal, couldn’t be seen. Therefore identified as ‘women’ (nowadays in most of the developed world these children would be identified as having a genital abnormality at birth or shortly afterwards, given a very simple test and identified as their correct sex. They could receive treatment which would help their development).

Although their balls did not descend, their bodies still manufactured the male hormones which result in male puberty, with the strong musculature, physical strength which characterise men as distinct from women. This development is clearly evident visually in both athletes.

Because you have a small Willy, it doesn’t mean you have the right to knock women senseless in public in the guise of sport ( though it may be quite a strong motivation).
