Help me annoy our neighbours

Lighthearted (ish!)

I don’t say this lightly but we have the most truly horrible couple (‘young professionals’, although they don’t act like it) that I have ever met living beside us - even since the day that we moved in they have completely blanked us, anytime I have simply waved over or said ‘good morning’ I get ignored. In the 4 years that we have lived here neither of them have ever even made eye contact with me. It is bizarre and I have no idea what their problem is. I feel like they automatically see us as below them since we are renting (I have just gotten through a messy divorce, it is only my very sensible teen DD and I living here)

They have constant, wild parties going on into the small hours. It’s a 1930s semi so very poor sound insulation - we hear everything. I went round and politely knocked their door one Friday party night as DD had just had an operation and really needed her sleep - the door was slammed in my face. Their Range Rover (definitely heavily financed) is constantly parked right over the pavement, forcing buggies and wheelchair users onto the busy road.

They are vile people and I want a petty yet harmless way to get my own back when we move out in a few months. Any ideas?

Then they should conmunicate with the OP instead of ignoring her.

Why?
Nobody has to be friendly with their neighbours.

Because no man is an Island, and even if you don't like ypur neighbours, you need to communicate with them if as you suggested they are too noisey.Otherwise how can you get them to stop?

They possibly don't acknowledge you because they feel they've nothing in common or are just not interested in neighbourhood friendships. Who knows?
@Emmerald This is no excuse for bad manners. You don't have to want to be bosom pals with someone to be able to manage a polite "Good morning. Lovely weather we're having" or whatever. Simply ignoring someone is downright rude.

My thoughts exactly

Environmental Health would be my first port of call.

It's quite evident on this thread that a lot of you have never had to live with noisy, horrible neighbours. Late night parties every weekend into the small hours is not nice to deal with. Anything loud outside of 10pm and 9am (I think) is considered as antisocial behaviour and can be reported.

I've had this problem , lived next door to a musician who did this every weekend when I had a baby. Parties none stop, loud music, constant loud sex about 5 times a night. It kept me awake every weekend. The selfish twat then had the audacity to report us for noise after my baby cried all night when he was ill. I was raging when I get a letter from the council.

He's gone now thankfully, he was actually thrown out by the landlord as he trashed the house. Be grateful for having good neighbours!!

Nobody has to be anything. The vast majority of the population thankfully however have basic manners and the ability to utilise common courtesy - it’s how society functions. This cannot be a foreign concept for you?

Dear god, I would ignore you as well.
You clearly despise them and their car ( does anybody really say nouveau riche), so why on earth would you give or want a friendly wave or hello from people you disapprove of?

I don’t judge a book by its cover - these people have been vile ever since the day that we moved in, they have 0 reason to be so rude. DD and I are quiet and respectful, we cause no bother and never have. They know absolutely nothing about me or what I think of them.

Right, so you agree that your neighbours are free to ignore you if they choose?

OP, I have some large metal wind chimes that you can have!

Of course they’re free to, they’re (supposedly) grown adults - that doesn’t change the fact that intentionally blanking someone for no apparent reason is the height of rudeness. A touch of common courtesy would be nice. The rest of the neighbourhood can manage it so why can’t they?

Keying the car?! That’s awful.

It is, but…….
Shove a potato up the exhaust pipe then.

I’m not horribly judgmental - I know blatant rudeness when I see it (and a financed Range Rover). They are the nouveau riche type and judging by their conversations (which sadly we hear far too much of) they want the world to know about it.

Here to ask wtf Noveau Riche means?

and

why financing a car is bad?

i think my breathe is financed at this point .. im
in a bit of a bad financial hump… it will pass..

also what does heavily financed mean ? how do you know..

if your whole street talked about me like this then i wouldn’t want to talk to any of you either ..

planning revenge after you move out..

I think there are better choices to be made in life than this…

Nouveau riche = new money. Overly flashy. Nobody needs a massive Range Rover for 2 people living in the middle of the city.

Re: heavily financed - the shoe fits, especially in NI where next to nobody buys new cars outright. I had fellow school parents genuinely shocked that we owned ours. There’s nothing wrong with it but there’s certainly a type of person who buys a ridiculously large SUV that they can’t really afford.

I’m responding only to the first part of your post. Why do you actually care that a neighbour doesn’t respond to your waving or saying good morning? Stop caring what other people think. I couldn’t give a stuff if my neighbours say good morning or not.

Is this what people call a reverse ..

if is not and you are genuinely caught up in this then I say go high or go home!!

leave them a lovely card through the door saying something like: that you know you’ve never spoken but your moving out soon, and you wanted to let them know about all the times you’ve admired their success from afar, and you noticed how much effort they put into their appearance, the car they drive and thought yould say “ good on you for having such a zest for life” That you hope their drive for success catches others attention as much as it caught yours and you regret not having tried harder to get to know them , that although you have not seen eye to eye with them on some things that you hope they find a community that accepts and supports them as you know how valuable this can be at different stages in life…

it 👀might change their life and yours…

WoosMama13 · 01/08/2024 18:46

Get a water pistol and fill it with weedkiller.
Spray (from an upstairs window ideally) a penis onto their lawn.

Roll on when you leave and hopefully get some lovely neighbours! X

BlimminCat · 31/07/2024 20:59

Throw bird seed or similar near and over their Range Rover! See how they like the white and yellow splats.

Apparently the current thing to do is to find a handy turd and smear small amounts of it on the underside of the door handles. They'll never be able to clean it off completely and they'll get it on the steering wheel and seat belts before they notice. Just a smear not a clod or they'll feel it when they touch the handle.

Some people just keep themselves to themselves. Trying to force interaction is pretty rude too.

Yourdemonsyourproblem · 01/08/2024 19:19

Neighbours don't need to speak to you if they don't want to, they don't know you're renting or probably care, they are just private,
However the slamming the door and parties is unreasonable and I would report to council

PixieLaLar · 01/08/2024 19:20

I think you sound incredibly judgemental and quite clearly don’t like them - which I imagine they picked up on so can’t be arsed being fake unlike you wanted to be.

You are in two different worlds, they are a young working couple enjoying themselves having friends round and driving a nice car (which you apparently KNOW is on finance) Your a complaining single Mum who’s feeling insecure and bitter after a break up and fixating on whether your neighbours say hello to you or not….

PotatoLove · 01/08/2024 19:33

Definitely get some windchimes, potato up the vehicle exhaust pipe, put speakers against wall and play a good selection of Thrash Metal, put a speaker outdoors directed to their garden as well 😌

Hmm1234 · 01/08/2024 19:40

You care too much about what these people MIGHT think of you and it sounds like you are holding it against them they seem to be KEEPING UP APPEARANCES better than yourself.

Southener · 01/08/2024 20:10

Well depends how evil you're feeling. I've had to deal with very unpleasant neighbour dicks before, and regular parties can be absolutely soul destroying.
Personally if they shut the door in your face, I'd report to the council for noise.
But if you don't fancy that, there's always the options of keying the car (bet it'll end up on the drive then), placing a speaker against their bedroom wall nice and early playing jungle (post party obvs, and just for a few hours so the council can't attend in time) and dog/cat shit on the doorstep.
But I didn't suggest that 🤣

Iloveburgerswaymorethanishould · 01/08/2024 20:30

Are they home owners??? Maybe create a situation where they have to disclose a neighbour dispute… or source and plant some Japanese knotweed…….will take a while but fuck shit right up!!
