To think Tattle Life gossiping is necessary?

bottomsup12 · 25/07/2024 08:29

Immediately thoughts are that it's not nice to gossip and everyone should "be kind". However, in this day and age of social media influencers etc, everyone acknowledges that people show the best bits of their life, all the ups and rarely the downsides.

We are also told to stop comparing to others on this basis as we never know what's going on behind someone's glamorous life.

Therefore, I put it to you MNers, that the b*tchiness that occurs on Tattle Life (and is IS very much so) is a necessary antidote to the fake lives we can't help comparing ourselves to.

Instead of sitting here wondering how everyone else manages to have such a great time while you're broke hardly able to pay your bills, it's reassuring to see other people cutting through the crap and pointing out the other parts of their life.

I'd argue it's a necessary by product of social media antics and the naturally occurring ying to the social media glamorous yang!

What are your thoughts?

Instead of criticising ‘influencers’ & gossip sites OP, you could always try deleting social media apps and getting a life instead?

I think while there may be justifiable reasons for wanting to call out certain people for bullshit, from what I’ve seen many of the posters on tattle are absolutely unhealthily obsessed with their targets and there’s an almost masturbatory fury that they seem to revel in. Jack monroe for example. She’s a bit annoying and there are some inconsistencies in her self-told ‘story’ but those people on her sub have hundreds and hundreds of pages analysing every inch of her life picking her to pieces. She’s clearly got severe mental health issues and it is a matter of concern that they feel enabled to hound her regardless of consequences.

Caroline flack used to have disgusting things written about her on there, her pages were all deleted after she killed herself. So the website creators KNEW it was unacceptable. Yet they allow it to continue for countless others. Until the next person takes their life?

Oh no, is that true about Caroline Flack? If so then I think it sums up what's wrong with Tattle. I'm not talking about any of the Be Kind nonsense, or arguing that CF was above criticism, just that they are happy to host such threads until it reflects badly on the site. Such hypocrisy!

Babachew · 26/07/2024 07:30

KF is marching on. Will probably lose her contracts in time.

Over40Overdating · 26/07/2024 08:53

@Babachew you sound obsessed with Kat. The sly drug using references to shit talk a stranger. Why?

If she does lose her livelihood, will you sleep better? Feel like you accomplished something?

What then? Where will you get your satisfaction from when she’s no longer in the public sphere?

I had never heard of that woman til yesterday and can happily go the rest of my life never thinking of her again. The same way you and the others justifying your body shaming, ageism and bitching as ‘calling her out’ could.

Babachew · 26/07/2024 08:59

Eh?

CandiedPrincess · 26/07/2024 09:06

Calm down @Over40Overdating 😂

I remember reading Lauren Goodgers thread when her baby passed away and they first blamed the doula and then blamed Lauren for her babies death including saying she took drugs through her pregnancy.
I haven’t read it since then, I used to just read it for the gossip but it goes beyond that really.

That's a complete lack of humanity. Absolutely horrendous behaviour.

L66 · 26/07/2024 09:21

@cupcaske123 yes it is I hope Lauren never read those threads at the time or ever really it was horrendous, I don’t know how they could write it.

They're like chimps flinging crap around.

KittyWindbag · 26/07/2024 09:48

I’m with you, you don’t have to #bekind to see that it’s unacceptable and cruel over there. Furthermore as I’ve seen someone else mention, they love to dish it out but they can’t take it back. Any comments criticizing them or tattle are removed or banned. So freedom of speech my arse, tbh. There are several influencers whose dead children are not even safe from the discussion. It’s hideous, but they all think they’re justified somehow, no matter what anyone says.

justkeepswimmng · 26/07/2024 09:55

I utterly disagree, my sister and her partner were brought up on a thread.

And i can tell you it was utter fucking lies, it enraged me so much actually because they are the 2 loveliest people (NOT INFLUENCERS) each running their businesses.

So anyone that scene is quite frankly a cunt.

don’t tell her passive aggressively to calm down, she’s completely right. That site drove one person to suicide. The people who use it are scum. if they really believe so strongly about the evils of influencer culture, tgere are plenty of other ways they could tackle it, not least by deleting social media from their phones rather than following these these people obsessively and letting envy eat them up

This is the crux of it, they don’t actually want any of it to stop. They love it. They love frothing themselves up into an ecstasy of rage and glee. They couldn’t live without it.

Sparrowball · 26/07/2024 10:19

Some of you should step back and look at what you're saying about Tattlers and the language used to describe them.

If you have any self-awareness you'll come a cropper from those high horses.

MartyFunkhouser · 26/07/2024 10:26

I honestly think some of the posters on Tattle taking great delight in Kat Farmer’s perceived fall from grace want nothing more than for her to be cancelled. They are so full of spite and conjecture. They make comments on personal stuff that they know absolutely nothing about.

Fair enough if a fashion influencer goes off the boil, style-wise (as I think she has - I used to love her clothes), or promotes stuff you doubt she’d ever wear just for £££ (ballet flats anyone?). But to pile in on a complete bitch-fest about every aspect of her life and appearance?

They are the absolute pits and I can only imagine what awful, hateful people they are in rl.

snellgrove · 26/07/2024 10:31

Tattle is absolutely loathsome. It's all very well claiming these people need "calling out" but who is actually reading this stuff other than other Tattlers? As many other people have said, if you want to put an end to influencer culture, delete social media. "Hate following" is meaningless when brands will give these people stuff based on the numbers following them. They aren't doing an audit of who hates them in those numbers.

What I loathe most is the utterly faux 'concern' for people. Any fitness influencer who is slim is immediately diagnosed with an eating disorder, completely with fake concern. I know someone who was talked about as having an eating disorder - despite BTW having the grand total of about 4k followers - and it led to a huge mental health breakdown. The fact is yes she does have an eating disorder, and well done Tattle, you just made it significantly worse. Loathsome bunch of sanctimonious creeps.

Every time I think of it now I think of Taylor Swift's But Daddy I love Him:

"I don't cater to all these vipers dressed in empath's clothing.

God save the most judgmental creeps,
Who say they want what's best for me
Sanctimoniously performing soliloquies I'll never see"

Garlickest · 26/07/2024 10:33

All the indignant frothers on this thread, for starters 😂

I assume you have read the MN thread on there? and the way they speak about Mumsnetters? Perhaps they need a bit of self awareness too. Or in other words, don't dish it out if you can't take it.

I meant, as I'm sure you know perfectly well, the brands they work with/ pay them. I'm sure plenty of people here are on Tattle too. And there's plenty of nasty stuff on here, but people do make a choice here to post in AIBU or whatever. Moderation also seems to exist.

Ooh, does it hurt you to have people be mean about you as a Tattler? Can't you take it? It's not nice when people are horrible about you online, is it? Imagine if it was you but named?

Yes, I read it. In fact I've already said on this thread that I find it hilarious.

Some posters won't like it because it holds up a mirror to some of the class snobbery and nastiness that's found here.

I'm not on Tattle because registration seems to be permanently closed.

That schoolyard taunt is pathetic BTW, is that meant to bother me in some way? 🤣

Vitalthing · 26/07/2024 10:46

You can recognise some mumsnet posters on certain tattle threads. Same style and comments.
