To splurge this much on hairdryer?

EmoIsntDead · 23/07/2024 18:07

I really need a new hairdryer and the Dyson is currently available in JL for £280. My hairdresser swears it has the best diffuser he’s ever used and I do have curly hair (although I never wear it curly because it goes so frizzy)

Is the Dyson really worth it? It’s just SO much money for a hairdryer, but I would use it almost every day so…?

I'm.obsessed with my Dyson hairdryer
I would never ever have bought one myself - could probably afford it but it seemed ridiculous to spend that much on a hairdryer on my disposable income...And how good could it be??
Answer...amazing!
I used my sisters once and was hooked, I was delighted when one appeared in the post for me from her! Now I am an advocate and think it's worth every penny

Oh how lovely your sister is and your relationship 🥰

@CantHoldMeDown out of an upstairs window you say.....

Blimey, that must've entertained the neighbours for weeks...

@EmoIsntDead I can't stand the Dyson owner. However, I have to admit I have the hairdryer and it's worth every penny, in my view.

I paid for it over a year. I've had it 6 years, and it's still going strong. Treat yourself if you can afford it

SamW98 · 23/07/2024 20:16

I got the Dyson hairdryer and straighteners on interest free credit and I think they’re worth every penny.

ItsVeryHyacinthBucket · 23/07/2024 20:17

My hairdresser uses a Dyson and nothing else comes close. Saying that I bought a very good Parlux one nearly 20 years ago that’s still going strong and does the job, so…?

MartyFunkhouser · 23/07/2024 20:18

I have long, curly hair and I have a Dyson. Wouldn’t hesitate to get another.

I keep treading on and snapping bits off the diffuser. My advice is don’t tread on it 😬

But he already had your money, wouldn't have known about it (nor given a shite, assumingly), but surely you would have had to spend unnecessary money on a replacement?
I imagine shock from neighbours at a hoover being launched out of an upstairs window though 😀

Neither was Mr Dyson, he had your money!

I love my Dyson hair dryer: it’s worth it.

annahay · 23/07/2024 20:36

I love mine. I have fine hair that gets damaged easily but it's in the best condition it's ever been.

ReframeFeelings · 23/07/2024 20:38

I got a fake one on Amazon (that is, one that is deliberately made to look like a Dyson) and it's bloody brilliant! £25.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 23/07/2024 20:45

I've used a friend's and I don't rate it at all but I have a good Parlux already . I wonder if people who love the Dyson didn't have great drivers to start with?

@ReframeFeelings Do you have a link for this? Cannot afford a Dyson! Thanks

Hawdyerwheesht · 23/07/2024 20:54

Totally worth it. Had mine for 8 years. Not a scratch on it. Diffuser is great.

I don't have any experience of using a Dyson to compare it to but this did replace my old hair dryer and there is an absolute world of difference. It doesn't blow my hair all over the place and also my long hair dries in half the time compared to my old dryer. Also look at the reviews!

It's not worth it, mine is powerful but my hair looks like it's been through a jet engines

My experience too and oddly straw like too, can't seem to smooth my hair down at all with it.

My old one was a Parlux, and I prefer the Dyson.

I have the GHD Helios and the Dyson Airwrap and there’s a huge difference, I don’t regret spending the extra money on the Airwrap. I never use the GHD anymore. Dyson have a 0% finance option so you can spread the cost if needed and you can return it if you don’t like it.

crampyi · 23/07/2024 21:41

Actually I’m not 100% sure about returning it once you’ve tried it, you might want to contact them to check in advance. Though you can likely use it once and put it back in the box without them knowing you’ve tried it, as you’re allowed to inspect items that you order online.

Shiloh139 · 23/07/2024 21:44

My DH got me one a couple of years ago as I was convinced it would really improve my curly and reduce frizz. It didn't. It's nowhere near as quiet as people make out but it was noticeably quieter than my last hairdryer with diffuser. I thought the variety of temperature settings would be astounding but in reality, unless you're using the cold option, they're all warm enough that you'd burn your hand after a short while ie too hot for curls if you're following CGM.

That being said, I do like my Dyson. It's tiny compared to other dryers, it's still quieter than my last one and it's lighter. Not sure it's worth what my DH paid for it, but I'm glad I have it for these reasons. AND because otherwise I'd still be kidding myself about the stunning curls only a Dyson could give me!

DeliciousApples · 23/07/2024 23:10

They have them on qvc for £279 upwards depending on which model.

You get 60 days to try at home. I've returned things within this time frame with no issues for a full refund.

This would be an ideal solution for you. Just send it back if you don't like it. They expect it to be used.
