To splurge this much on hairdryer?

I really need a new hairdryer and the Dyson is currently available in JL for £280. My hairdresser swears it has the best diffuser he’s ever used and I do have curly hair (although I never wear it curly because it goes so frizzy)

Is the Dyson really worth it? It’s just SO much money for a hairdryer, but I would use it almost every day so…?

They have them on qvc for £279 upwards depending on which model.

You get 60 days to try at home. I've returned things within this time frame with no issues for a full refund.

This would be an ideal solution for you. Just send it back if you don't like it. They expect it to be used.

Interesting

I’ve had my Dyson for 9 years this year. Use it daily whether it’s on me or the kids. Dries the children’s hair in super quick time. It was £300, but it’s never given me any problems and still going strong so I can justify it.

lovelyhat · 23/07/2024 23:24

I used one at a hotel recently and was really underwhelmed. It took much longer to dry my hair than my cheapo babyliss hairdryer at home!

NewMe2024 · 23/07/2024 23:36

My hair is long and thick and take about an hour to dry with a normal dryer (seriously). With the Dyson it takes about 45 mins. So not a game changer at all, although the actual experience is better because it’s lighter and quieter so I just read whilst drying instead of feeling quite so ‘blasted’ for an hour iyswim. Not sure it justifies the cost though.

others have told me that the Parlux is better than the Dyson, but I’ve never tried it.

EmoIsntDead · 24/07/2024 07:56

Thanks for your opinions, everyone 😊 I’m really struggling to justify that much money, I might try the QVC option @DeliciousApples suggested. Also off to google Parlux!

And I should also add that qvc has four easypays at £69.99.

You pay the first one and get it home right away.

I don't think they credit check you either as my friend got stuff from them and has bad credit with a debt repayment plan etc.

I love qvc! I've bought way way too much from them....!

I have a shark! It's similar to the Dyson but cheaper.

I also have long, thick hair and it normally takes me over an hour to dry it so I don't bother.

I like my shark! Takes about 30 mins to diffuse and my curls look lovely. Takes me about an hour to dry straight. The curling bits are really good too but I don't have the hang of them yet so that takes me another 30 mins or so.

If you can afford it I think it's worth it!

Back21970 · 24/07/2024 09:03

I bought one when they first came out and was a bit underwhelmed - it does dry very quickly though but for me frizz is the problem and I didn’t feel there was a noticeable improvement.

About 9 months later it completely stopped working. Luckily I still had the receipt and took it back to Boots for a full refund.

Suppose it was a win as it gave me the chance to try it and then ended up getting my money back!

I wouldn’t repurchase but don’t think it’s a fortune to spend on your hair if it works for you and you can afford it.

RichTea90 · 24/07/2024 09:05

Go for the Shark. It is very similar and a lot cheaper (I have one) I’ve done lots of research, and some even say it’s superior to Dyson when it comes to drying your hair.

I’ve been using mine since May, and I love it - dries hair so fast and my hair is in much better condition

fatFriendsFan · 24/07/2024 09:08

I have a Dyson one and it's really nice. I bought a refurbished one from them on eBay

Roselilly36 · 24/07/2024 09:14

I have the Babylis 3q hair dryer not cheap, cheap £125 but it is great, I have thick hair and it dries quicker. I have had mine 10+years. I really notice a difference when I use a different hair dryer. No way would I buy a Dyson.

snowballsintheoven · 24/07/2024 09:27

I have had every hair tool under the sun

I quite liked my Dyson hairdryer but Parlux is better

I have an Airwrap too, I hate it

GHD Helios wasn't bad

Parlux Parlux Parlux 🫡

Neither was Mr Dyson, he had your money!

Amd probably more from people needing replacement parts directly from Dyson rather than the second hand market.

Bankholidayhelp · 24/07/2024 09:36

No idea what the dysons are like, but I got a Shark, after many years of cheapo hairdryers. It's a total game changer for both my thick course hair and my DDs fine fly away hair.

I got it on offer on Amazon

Hulllla · 24/07/2024 09:54

I've never regretted buying mine. It's so light.

It totally depends on whether you can afford it. If you can, then yes. If you cant, then no.

Only you knows your financial situation.

Tattyhabits · 24/07/2024 10:53

I have no experience of Dyson hairdryers but if it's something you want and will use every day then really I would say go for it. I've spent all my adult life compromising on things to save a few ££££ here and there and its not done me any good. Even if it only lasted 3 years the cost would be 25p a day, which isn't much if each time you use it it gives you joy.

I’ve been looking at the Parlux website this morning. Do you use a parlux diffuser too?

I hadn’t considered the shark. There’s too many options 🙈

Curly girl here - I have a Dyson hairdryer and a Shark hairdryer and I can tell you without a doubt that the Shark pisses all over the Dyson. I use my dryer every other day so they take some battering and the Shark is just the best.

MartinsSpareCalculator · 24/07/2024 13:22

I didn't like mine and switched to a GHD hairdryer instead, but I love my airwrap!

If you want it and can afford it then go for it!

CombatBarbie · 24/07/2024 13:24

Have you looked at the shark ones? I have one and can't fault it
