To splurge this much on hairdryer?

I really need a new hairdryer and the Dyson is currently available in JL for £280. My hairdresser swears it has the best diffuser he’s ever used and I do have curly hair (although I never wear it curly because it goes so frizzy)

Is the Dyson really worth it? It’s just SO much money for a hairdryer, but I would use it almost every day so…?

Exactly this. He was vocal about keeping his production British until he decided to get very greedy and moved it all abroad.

His workforce in other countries are basically slave labour and forced to work in shitty conditions.

I've always been a parlux user and when my sister got a Dyson for Christmas I had to try it out, my hair was so tatty from it, like literally putting your hair in the vacuum hose, never again, does dry very quickly but leaves hair feeling in an awful condition

BuggeryBumFlaps · 05/08/2024 18:44

My hairdresser said they are great if you’ve got thick hair that takes a long time to dry. My hair is long but fine and she said it probably wasn’t worth it for mine.

PerspicaciaTick · 05/08/2024 18:53

I couldn't justify a Dyson so I got a Laifen from their EU website and have been delighted. They do a kit with the diffuser and are currently 25% off.

Leedsfan247 · 05/08/2024 19:07

Total waste of money marketing over quality every time with Dyson - seriously overrated

BobnLen · 05/08/2024 19:23

I have curly hair and find it better for that if I have to dry my hair

BillyNoMates9 · 05/08/2024 19:35

I bought one about five years ago and it's still brilliant. I dont go to the salon often, the Dyson hairdryer saves me!

PeloMom · 05/08/2024 19:37

If your hair is below shoulder level- go for it. For me was life changing. I’ve been using mine for 7 years now and is the best!

LisaD76 · 05/08/2024 19:49

Before spending fortunes on a hairdryer you should look at the product you are using, I use a basic hairdryer and diffuser but it’s the product that keeps the curls nice

Literallywingingit · 05/08/2024 20:39

I have curly hair and it’s the best hairdryer and diffuser I’ve ever used definitely worth the money

Southern1964 · 05/08/2024 20:44

Had one for years, they’re an absolute game changer. I would never go back!

Dizzybet74 · 05/08/2024 21:00

I like mine but it wasn't a life changer tbh and I use the Gama diffuser in it as the standard one is very small.

Bowies · 05/08/2024 21:09

I have one which was gifted and I do find it cuts drying time. If your hair is slow to dry and you can justify the expense it may be helpful. I appreciate it as a gift, but wouldn’t buy one myself.

My hairdresser uses a different diffuser although they have a Dyson hairdryer as well, so certainly wouldn’t get one specifically for the diffuser.

Sararsam · 05/08/2024 21:27

Your Dyson will cut out if you do not use the gadget to clean the filter on the bottom end.

Jack80 · 05/08/2024 21:29

Do it best decision you will ever make. Also look on the refurbishment part of the Dyson website they can be cheaper again, may not come in the original box.

noosmummy12 · 05/08/2024 21:52

On another note- has anyone tried the 20 quid dupe??

Luluco · 05/08/2024 22:04

Dyson is well worth the money. I’ve had loads of hairdryers over the years and this is by far the best. Barely need to use straighteners after it and I have really frizzy curly hair.

Newbie8918 · 05/08/2024 22:11

I have very long, hard to dry hair. I deliberated for ages and cracked and I love it.

I dry my hair everyday and I've had it 2 years, so on a cost per use basis, I'm on about 40p per use 🤣

I'd recommend for reduced drying time alone.

Newbie8918 · 05/08/2024 22:21

Oooh also I've seen a few posts recommending Parlux. I'd say it's totally down to hair type and how often you dry it. Mine is coloured (bleach) and Parlux fried it, even with heat protector. On the positive it was super light, really fast drying and quiet but I had lots of breakage even with using it on lower settings.

TheKeatingFive · 05/08/2024 22:27

I had a Parlux for many years and it's a Trojan of a dryer, but the results don't even slightly compare with a Dyson

Mummyten · 05/08/2024 22:36

Parlux all the way … I’ve never liked the Dyson hoovers either - completely overrated !!!

Trishthedish · 05/08/2024 23:44

Totally worth it. My husband bought me mine for Xmas a couple of years ago and it truly made a HUGE difference. Thoroughly recommend.

Mrsgreen100 · 05/08/2024 23:51

If they are anything like Dyson hovers
it will end up in landfill
two Dysons on
never again
my hairdryer is a Fran something 24 ish years old and wonderful still
got it form hairdresser supply company

BeachBae · 05/08/2024 23:55

I'm still using a £20-30 quid Nicky Clarke hairdryer I got as a teenager. I must have had it about 28yrs.

If yours will last that long, buy all means, buy it. I wouldn't though. What canit possibly do that a 30 quid one can't. They all dry your hair 🤷‍♀️

StormingNorman · 06/08/2024 00:08

My hairdresser uses a Dyson and I’ll probably get one when my Parlux dies. I like the idea that it reduces heat damage - the Parlux is very hot.
