To splurge this much on hairdryer?

I really need a new hairdryer and the Dyson is currently available in JL for £280. My hairdresser swears it has the best diffuser he’s ever used and I do have curly hair (although I never wear it curly because it goes so frizzy)

Is the Dyson really worth it? It’s just SO much money for a hairdryer, but I would use it almost every day so…?

Just to throw another one out there, I have the Cloud 9 Airshot and it's brilliant. My hair isn't hugely thick but it is quite curly and it's been great with it. I think it's about £150ish.

It's interesting that you don't see them in Salons, Parlux and GHD you do though. My stylist said a rep came out to do a demo at the salon but the generally consensus was 'meh.'

@ReframeFeelings Do you have a link for this? Cannot afford a Dyson! Thanks

Go for a Laifen. As good as identical, loads cheaper, I have curly hair and I've just bought one. Fantastic!

Very true.

I’d be inclined to go for a blow dry (or two!) at a salon and eye up what the professionals are using tbh.

I don’t think the Dyson is all it’s cracked up to be, and it’s an awful lot of money to spend…

I very nearly did buy a Laifen! But I saw some reviews online that said they shipped from China and took ages to arrive/didn’t arrive and that customer services were shit. What was your experience?

Its because they are quite heavy and expensive, thats why you don't see them in salons.

Oh dear. The majority of the country supported brexit. That's why we left the EU.

May I suggest anger management seeing as it was 8 years ago now. In case you want to be violent to more than half the country or throw things out if windows. We've left the EU were not going back. Get over it.

Yes it's a hideous waste of money. I airdry my curly hair in all weather for free.

I got one when it was on offer on the eBay refurbished shop, Black Friday usually have offers, the one I got was brand new in the original cellophane and cost about £150-£160

Only on MN could an innocent question about an overpriced hairdryer descend into a row about Brexit.

I bought a Dyson hairdrier second-hand on ebay. Maybe you could try that and, if you decide it's not for you/ not worth the money, you could probably re-sell without losing too much?

EmoIsntDead · 24/07/2024 13:55

Do you use the diffuser? Is it any good?

I do indeed - I rarely straighten my hair so the diffuser is the main bit I use. It has prongs that you can move up or down, depending on your hair thickness/density etc which is amazing as I've not seen that on any other diffusers. Its just an all round brilliant diffuser.

Looblou72 · 25/07/2024 14:00

Best hairdryer I’ve ever had!

spikeandbuffy · 25/07/2024 15:57

I have wavy long hair and a Dyson
It's good as it's not heavy but my hair still takes 40 mins to diffuse dry so not a huge change for me

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 25/07/2024 19:46

Well, to throw a spanner in the works I've just taken delivery of a Diva drier which was £35 in the sale , £75 originally. My beloved Parlux of 9 years is falling to bits. I read the reviews and they were really good so I decided to risk it. It's brilliant! Can't tell the difference between it and the Parlux , it's slightly heavier by 100gms but that's it. Very pleased I didn't have to shell out £150 for a new Parlux.

I waited about 10 days for mine, yes it did ship from China I think.....BUT it's miraculously lightweight, powerful, quiet, the diffuser is amazing, my hair dries fluff free.
No regrets!

Not1Not2Butt3Holes · 05/08/2024 11:49

Have a look at the Bellissima Diffron Supreme. Pricey but nowhere as pricey as a Dyson. I have naturally curly hair and my curls with this little beauty are the best they've ever been. Lightweight as well which is a bonus.

TheKeatingFive · 05/08/2024 11:50

I spent €500 on the air wrap and it was worth every single penny. So I'd say go for it OP.

JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 23/07/2024 18:13

I LOVE my Dyson hairdryer despite the fact I have ethical issues with Mr Dyson himself 🙈.

I have super thick, super curly water loving hair and instead of taking 30 minutes to dry it’s now dry in less than 10.

Worth every penny.

What ethical issues do you have with James Dyson? I can't afford £300 on a hairdryer so it's a moot point but I am interested

ANiceCuppaTeaandBiscuit · 05/08/2024 11:55

It is SO worth it. Whenever I’m away and I have to use a different one I notice a big difference both in the time it takes to do my hair and how it turns out. If you can afford it, get it, you won’t regret it.
